And of course, that's representative of all games.  But it's interesting you pick that as your example. In my recent playthrough of Cyberpunk I avoided that quest, because I know what happens and had no appetite for a re-run. But the questline gives you numerous opportunities to stop and end the whole questline early. I read an article about it not long ago, and wish I could find it.  There is more to that quest than the purely superficial shock factor.

I didn't mean it as such. The first post was what I'd like to call, a joke.

 

As to the rest, yes, but I'm imagining the 'family member walks in during The Event'.

 

Edit: Also I'm hoping against hope for more DLC like it and the Peralez story.

Same, as well as pretty much everyone else who's known me for longer than fifteen minutes. I'm practically immune to embarrassment at this point, so I can enjoy my life without any worries over being judged spending time doing the things I enjoy. As much as I love Shadow Hearts Convenant one of the bits I found funny back in the day but looking back is pure cringe, probably homophobic and racist as fuck is the Man Festival.

This came out in 2004 and was so edgy. I had to show all my friends this scene. And how we laughed at it's racist stereotypes and the "gay" joke at the end.

 

One of my best friends laughed the most. And the thing that makes me the most embarrassed to the point of wanting the ground to swallow me up was that at the time none of use knew that he had broken up secretly with his wife because he'd come out to her as gay. And here's me in his house showing him a weird cringy racist part of a videogame where the punchline is literally gay sex.

 

I still have no idea how this game got past the Australian censors and in the sequel they pulled the racism and homophobia way way way back. I also have no idea why I thought this was in any way acceptable to subject my friends to at the time who were in retrospect probably laughing in that weird light uncomfortable way.

I play with headphones on, so I guess that cuts down on a lot of potential embarrassment. My wife still has the occasional chuckle as she's passing by and sees some dialogue on screen - I reckon she's right that it's shite about half the time, and the other half something's lost without the context.

 

There were definitely bits of MGSV, Persona, Yakuza etc. that I would've been embarrassed to be seen with though. I think Persona games might be the worst - because, yes, I am having these soppy conversations with teenage girls and buying them gifts and trying to get them to like me, but it's, er, to upgrade our bonds so we can fight the monsters better. OK?

 

Bayonetta, meanwhile, has always created this split in opinion, and I think both sides have a point. It's camp and empowering and also overtly sexualised, all at once. I really do play that one for the fine gameplay and flamboyant style, which is truly great, while admitting there's a lot of cringe to get through.

This reminds me of an incident many years ago when I was living with my parents. I was playing Silent Hill and me dad came in to tell me something. I had the game on pause while we were talking, then unpaused as he was leaving and he was there just long enough to see me smash a nurse over the head with a metal pipe. When I saw his shocked reaction I tried to explain that she was like a zombie, but basically he left thinking I was some kind of psycho.

Making something optional doesn't really matter when it's still there. You can play Killer is Dead without doing any creepy gigolo stuff, play Persona without romancing anyone, and there are probably weird Yakuza minigames (I haven't played all of the games) that you can miss entirely. But they're still in there.

I haven't played it in years so I may be misremembering, but I feel like there's a lot of suggestion without much actually being shown. There are some iffy photos that are sent to Vincent but the player has to make a conscious choice to see them, and there are maybe scenes where someone is naked but it only shows their back... but from what I remember you're never really ogling arses and boobs.

 

(I haven't played Full Body either so I can't comment on that)

This is true (I completed it). But it's a lot of implications of more being shown, with bouncing (covered) tiddies being thrown at the camera.

I tried the demo of Full Body and it felt really dodgy and I say that as a fan of the original.

 

I do remember playing the original a few years ago with a good friend of mine who isn't easy to shock and the baby level made her shout "bloody hell!"
