Moon Knight - Disney+ - March 2022

I felt the accent was decent, it's biggest problem is that the script occasionally uses slang awkwardly (Steven says he must 'jog on', for instance, which is just not right for that phrase), and the performance of this being a completely broken down pathetic guy exaggerates things into a less natural sounding voice, but otherwise it worked far better than I expected it would. The scene where Donna says he'll never be a tour guide and he flatly responds 'that's crushing, actually' could have been a native Londoner, and the rest of it all isn't bad either. I've seen some people citing it as a bit Dick van Dyke but I don't think that's fair at all.

I am a fan of Moon Knight, and so watched this with knowledge the show hasn't expressly revealed yet, but even so they've made changes that keep it fresh and potentially play a little with the character. I'm hoping it can maintain this standard and deliver a good series. I am worried though, that the early reviews said the first episode was the best and the rest of it is weaker. Which will be a shame if it really does drop off.

since Thursday I’ve read the first twelve of the 2014 comic book series, and if nothing else, this has distinguished itself from “a slightly different Batman”.

The Ellis and Lemire runs are excellent.

This seems to be going slightly more for the Lemire approach, which isn't a shock given that has a true running plot, but I'd love someone to have just gone for the Ellis approach of 'weird story of the week' with brutal violence. And with his vest look, Shalvey black and white armour.

First episode is getting review bombed for mentioning the Armenian Genocide. Which is also Streisanding the issue a bit with those who weren't really aware and didn't really notice the mention in the show.

I think it accent was fine, the only thing that bothered me was how he managed to afford a flat that big in central London on a gift shop workers wage.

Really enjoyed it though, looking forward to seeing how it plays out. I have no knowledge of the character.

I did notice the reference and thought it was an odd choice, given how few people know anything about it and how some countries refuse point blank to accept it even happened..

I mean, it needs to be talked about far more and is comproble to the Holocaust. But it's a controversial subject for a lot of people. Not the usual Marvel frothy world of knockabout fun.

haha I thought this as well, no way could you get a space that big in London on those wages, they made the block he was in look all rough and dirty but his flat was an amazing studio flat in central London, whoever designed that set has never been there.

In a pretty brilliant move, Moon Knight hid a link to his first comic appearance on the show. There's a QR code on the wall near the star where Steven shows the schoolgirl the sarcophagus exhibit, which gives a link to Werewolf by Night #32, where Moon Knight made his debut, as the villain.

Interestingly they're making a Halloween special for Disney+ about Werewolf by Night so it's almost a double easter egg. Albeit ones in the future.

Solid second episode. Lots of plot development stuff, but feels like we've mostly got the scene set now. And we got some action, which was fun. Not sure about the direction they've taken Mr Knight, but I had presumed this was going to be the move they'd make when comments about him suggested they'd changed things. Not the way I'd have taken it but works for the show.

Good stuff. And another QR code, a bit more obvious this week.

Ah good, having not watched ep1 on drop day (finally watched Monday) I wasn’t sure when they’d be adding new episodes. Thoroughly enjoyed ep1 though. It hasn’t given much away at all, but at the same time had enough in it to keep me interested. They’ve put a lot of effort into this, from the credits and soundtrack up.

Nothing in that episode that I wouldn't let my 11 year old watch. In fact it's more PG direction than the first episode.

They've answered most of the mystery boxes from the first episode. I'm slightly disappointed by that- because it feels like the rest of the series will just be more an Indiana Jones style chase to get to the artefact first type plot.

That was really good tbh. Issac continues to show us how good an actor he is.

The action was great. In fact I'd didn't even mind the budget saving invisible monster cos what came next was pretty cool.

Oh and I really didn't mind this version of Mr Knight.  In fact I'm seeing it as plans for future seasons tbh.

Yeah that was an enjoyable romp. I wish I didn't know that it was filmed in Budapest as I just kept on frowning at not - London. Oscar Isaac is great and the story entertaining enough for me not to get too cut up about the "formerly poorest" part of London being a few buildings away from the bank of England. And then the Thames

This is the very definition of average. If Issac wasnt in it I think its flaws would be more apparent. As it is I think it has more in common with some mid 90s super hero movie like Spawn of the Phantom than anything current. Sadly it doesnt look like bucking the trend of underwhelming Marvel TV shows.

I'm really enjoying it but think the events of the Avengers has ruined stuff like this for me. This is the first post-blip piece of Marvel where it hasn't been (directly) referenced to which is fine but because I know this is happening in the same universe I keep questioning stuff that has no relevance to this story. Like I'm thinking all the time, was this guy blipped? What did Khonshu do during that time period? Did he get blipped? Did it even affect other-worldly beings like him? And why is no one talking about that celestial island from Eternals? Trying to not let get in the way of my enjoyment.

Not according to the

Spoiler

stuff about Mark the fake coppers showed off in the car. He's been very active for years and during the blip.

Oh yeah he probably wasn't then, but my "was s/he blipped" thoughts also relate to every character no matter how minor. Ethan Hawke, security guard,  gift shop manager, gold statue man etc.. like it's not important to what's happening but I still question it to the point it distracts me.  Don't recall giving it much thought in the other shows but maybe because they all addressed it in some way and this series is more detached

Isn't that a problem of all comic universes though?  The past is a place often ignored and open to being rewritten constantly. Once a story has ended it might get a footnote in the odd story in the future, but they're are very rearly given much thought afterwards.

2nd episodes was a dip in quality for me, clearly Moon Knight is using the Supernatural formula of invisible monsters to save budget. However, even the CG shown was bad. Mr Knight was ummm, personally disappointed in how they approached that persona since I was hyping everyone around how bad ass he was in the comics.
