You can really tell the first two were a little initial campaign, with the guys just getting into the swing of things. The rest of the season was great!

What episode of the original campaign do I watch to see what happens next?

Episode 39 of the original campaign starts the next arc, which is exactly where this series ends. For me, personally, the Briarwood arc was the best of campaign 1 anyway.

I think it should go without saying that future Critical Role series events should be banned from the thread. Critical Role doesn't exist.

Don't be daft. Just because you don't like/haven't watched it :P

I'm going in new as someone who has no idea about D&D outside of the 80's cartoon series.  I watched 15 minutes of Critical Role and had no idea what was going on.

I like fantasy and anime so lets see how this goes....

Edit - Enjoyed it alot after a couple of episodes. It reminded me of Invincible in its animation style and ultra violence. The baddie carried real weight and was wrecking everything.

The mains were abit paper thin in depth so hopefully that is worked on. Enjoyable Saturday evening fun though.

Finished. Loved it. Episode 11 was, indeed, absolutely superb.

What a genuine surprise this was. Three animation shows have come out of nowhere in the last 12 months to really impress me. This, Arcane, and Hit Monkey. All very different, all excellent.

Looks to be split over 4 weeks again with them dropping 3 episodes at a time..

New clip - and our first appearance of a couple of well-loved guest characters...

I should really try this but watching CR makes my teeth itch… will I get on with this?

What an odd thing to say. Teeth itch?

The first series takes an episode of 3 to figure itself out (even long time CR fans were initially taken aback at how needlessly crude it was), but once it does it’s great.

Chroma Conclave was where I stopped watching the original CR. I found the arc really really dull. Hopefully the show is better.

Well that escalated quickly!

Episode 1..

Spoiler

..shows the full horror of the Conclave's devastating attack on Emon.. each of the Conclave - Thordak (Red/Fire), Raishan (Green/Poison), Vorugal (White/Ice) and Umbrasyl (Black/Acid) are shown to be absolute forces of nature, cutting through the city like a knife, unstoppable..
The realisation of this is truly epic and incredibly well animated. It's only a shame the series got to spend so little time in Emon that we've seen so little of it before this happened.
Special mention to the design of Umbrasyl, each flap of his wings leaking acid over anything beneath him.. truly horrible!
Liking the fact that they are sprinkling in little moments of Vax having visions of a mysterious figure in black..
VM may have recently vanquished the Briarwoods, but this very effectively shows just how badly they are outmatched. It's a pretty spectacular way to open the series.

Episode 2..

Spoiler

..has a number of blink and you'll miss them references.. check out the cameos outside the Wildmother and Stormlord's temples, two characters from Joe Madureira's Battle Chasers in the Slayer's Take.. a certain merchant in the city..
The main thrust of the episode is meeting Kash and Zhara (rather less friendly than when they guested) and learning about the Vestiges of Divergence from the Slayer's Take patron, who effortlessly vocally tears apart each party member, meanwhile Grog collides with an immoveable object.. :omg:

A brilliant opening episode. I'm really enjoying it (though I did love this arc in the show).

My only concern is what felt like a gruelling epic quest in the campaign will lose out to the brevity needed to cram it all into 12 episodes. It would be silly to expect everything to be translated though..can't wait for more

In episode two I just did an instant belly laugh at:

Spoiler

Grog leaving the tavern in a direct shot for shot homage to that butterfly meme that's everywhere. It's so wonderfully silly

Edit: this one:

Now, I don't want to set any expectation, but in episode 3:

Spoiler

Fantasy and sci-fi TV trope tradition states that, now that Grog has a beard, the show must be entering its most awesome phase. So fingers crossed

Plus fortunately it came after the pedobear joke which was just totally odd and seemed like it doesn't belong in the universe more than usual.

Overall I thought the first three episodes are just as good as the best of the first season. The animation in this is really impressive. There's a real directorial flare in it that reminds me of the Avatar cartoon. Jokes generally land really well and it's just great fun.

In for the rest!

Just watched S2E3. Damn, didn’t see that coming.

Spoiler

It didn't seem obvious if what appeared to happen has happened. What with various healing magics being common and people coming back from the brink all the time it seems far from certain.

If that really is happening it does feel like a bit of a cheap death... Which to be fair, is very D&D, but pretty downbeat in the context of a show.

Will be interesting to see where it goes from here though if that's really happening!

And people who have seen Critical Role might be quick to chime in, but please be nice: many of us will be watching this for the first time not having had any knowledge of or interest in that D&D game so please don't spoil surprises for us!

At least wait until after this series is done anyway, as it's really good.

Spoiler

Trying to be as vague as possible.. - the event IS essentially how it happened in the stream. The effect was designed to do that IF the saving throw was failed..

Will just say, it will lead to significant repercussions beyond the event itself..

With that, I'm avoiding the thread entirely now. It wasn't a question that needed answering. Please spoiler things and mark them if they're about what the show is based on. That's literally what people are trying to avoid!
