Fuck me.

The new album's out now. I've given it a couple of listens and there's a lot to digest, unsurprisingly. Aside from the three singles there were a few other tracks I'm already familiar with from live sets (viewed on YouTube rather than actually seeing them live, unfortunately), and they're all good.

Initial impressions are that I like it, but I have the feeling that after a whole load of listens I'm going to end up loving it.

Yeah I mean they are awesome, they are this generations band.

That riff on Welcome To Hell is so simple and yet so brilliant, it’s like a Blockheads riff, I just love it.

I’m still reeling from Sugar/Tzu but yeah the album sounds great - I hate them, waiting for them to do something shit but they are so far ahead of anything else I’ve heard recently I might as well just accept it.

The Race Is About To Begin

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead's new one is out and it's as proggy as you'd expect, it's a slower burn than X: Godless Void and Other Stories but it's still excellent

Love Katy J Pearson. Catchy tunes and such a great voice. The owner at my local indie was mortified when I went in to collect the indie exclusive vinyl of her previous album and he’d forgotten to order it for me.

New album Hellfire on 15th July

this is the song that finally clicked for me with Black Midi. Just couldn’t get in to them before then this came along and opened a door.

what a track.

Yeah I've really liked the band since the first album but this is their best "single" for me. It's just weirdly funny. It makes me laugh on most listens and I'm not really sure why. Good stuff. Good band.

Hudson Mohawk has released his third full length LP. As with previous efforts, styles are varied but most of it is big bold and in your face. I liked the first third best, with Bicstan being my personal favourite. It’s patchy from there on but definitely worth a listen.

I'm trying to keep an ordered list - I kind of have a spreadsheet of things that I've listened to (I needed to throw out a bunch of CDs for a house move but I missed having a record of what I'd picked up, so somebody (either here or on Twitter) suggested a document instead), and I also have a roughly-ordered list of my favourites from the year (for @ngchol's annual poll :) )

A few highlights for me have been:

Bungle - Forms EP (I think I mentioned this one earlier in the thread)

https://scientificrecords.bandcamp.com/album/sci030-bungle-forms-ep

Logistics - Love Letters EP (ditto)

https://logistics.bandcamp.com/album/love-letters

...a bunch of the new Röyksopp material - Profound Mysteries et al

https://profoundmysteries.royksopp.com/

Noisia - Closer (the final album from the Dutch electronic group - it didn't grab me like StA but there are still some highlights; "The Hole Pt.1" is immense.)

...and we've still got a new Leftfield album to come before the year's over...
