OK, maybe I wont then as it requires PS Plus premium!

Sorry I should have mentioned that, what has it come to when they’re putting demos behind a premium paywall, it also makes extremely poor business sense when I would have thought the aim was to get as many people as possible to try it and then pay for the full game.

Another alternative you might consider is getting a boomerang rental subscription. I pay £10.99 a month and put discs on a rental list and they get sent out in order. It’s like living in the 2000s! For a game like this that you might just want to play through the once it’s perfect. I’ve had way more than my fair share using that.

I was 100% of the opinion that TLOU didn't need a remake. It still looks great right? Except I played the first couple of hours of the PS4 remaster (on my PS5, obvs) after watching the first episode of the TV show but then I bought the remake off @Ry on here and played the same segment again. I'm actually blown away by how much the visuals, audio and general feel - which includes the controller haptics - improve the overall experience. The PS4 version was fine but definitely looks more dated than I expected. Quite gamey, and I can feel the polygons, if you know what I mean. The remake is a much, much bigger step up than I was prepared for - the atmosphere, the detail, the lighting, the performances. I find myself actually taking my time, studying the world, looking out on the vistas, whereas I was just bombing through the PS4 version comparing the plot to the TV show.

It's funny, because even watching the Digital Foundry video this morning it'd take me a moment to figure out what version I was looking at as they intercut the game clips but as a playable experience the remake is just so clearly much better.

I also love that it has the difficulty settings from TLOU2 - so I whacked everything up to 'survivor' but put resources on plentiful. The best way to play!

Booo!

I really hope they don’t do something silly and constrain it to 16:9. I really want to play this on my ultrawide.

I wonder why, maybe they want a bit more spacing between it and Returnal which comes out 15th Feb. If both of them run well on Steam Deck count me in.

@Pob 100% agree. I was totally down on this ‘remaster’ thinking it was a rip off, should be a free upgrade etc. but the truth is that it’s absolutely phenomenal. I would urge anyone who enjoyed the original game or the PS4 version to buy it.

It all adds up to why the world is so amazing to be in. The level of detail is insane. It was similar in Uncharted, especially Lost Legacy.

yup.  For me it’s what has generally set Sony first party stuff apart from competitors.   Lovely stuff.
