As well and looking amazing the sound in this is also brilliant. The excellent foley work along with the 3D audio really place you in to the world. Walking around a derilict sky scraper tonight, listening to the groans of the building and sound of the rain outside was hugely atmospheric. I would highly recommend playing with headphones.

The game is largely identical to the previous versions but the graphics and audio really pull you into the world

PSA: If you have ‘enable 120hz’ mode on in your PS5 settings, you’ll only get the choice of Fidelity at 40fps, which looks janky as hell on a non VRR screen. Turn that off and you’ll be able to do fidelity at 30fps, if that’s your jam.

In my TVs case it can do 120hz* but can’t do VRR.

*at 1080p max, I think, though I doubt there are many, if any, games that can do 120 at anything above that resolution.

Completed it, mate.

I have 2 complaints:

- Fred ‘Soldier 76 from Overwatch’ Tatasciore does a few additional voices of enemies and he’s quite recognisable (or more likely I know the voice so well), it sticks out a bit.

- You hear frogs quite a bit but I never saw even one frog.

Other than that it was amazing, working from memory (played twice before, on release 2013 and remaster in 2014), I definitely enjoyed it more this time around, the mega graphics, improved AI and 3D audio really lifts the experience to new heights and the dual sense stuff is great too.

Here’s an in game shot of me taking out an infected. Not a spoiler but just in case

The photo mode is great, by the way.

Something else - a detail - I noticed also. Not a spoiler but again, just in case

Spoiler

You kill someone in the snow and their blood melts said snow as it flows out. Lovely/horrific!

That Digital Foundry video just cost me seventy quid. I wasn’t going to bother but this looks like a hell of an upgrade to what’s already one of my favourite games.

What the actual fuck, this 10 year old game with a remaster is seventy pounds???

So after completely the main story I selected a new game and a mid-game encounter (Pittsburgh meeting the hunters) to show a mate. Now when I try and start a new game I can’t select any encounter:chapter past that point, whereas before I could select any one I wanted.

Any ideas?

Just the devs having a bit of fun.

They did it when part 2 came out as well, you’re bound to have seen some floating about over the past couple of years.

I haven't played part 2, I still don't know what happens in that game except certain groups "hate" it.

It’s an absolute masterpiece, top 3 games of all time for me. The “certain groups” are the same keyboard warriors who get out in force over every piece of female/non-white/LGBTQ casting.

It's been on my list for a long time, its just finding time to play it and I really want to play TLOU 1 again before 2.

Completed Part 1 and Left Behind on Grounded mode. Really nice way to play the game. It's challenging but doable if you save ammo where possible. You'll definitely cherish each brick and bottle you'll come across. Had a great time. Might go back to it later and do another full playthrough of this and 2. They're definitely much closer now in terms of looks and gameplay feel. And yes, 2 is the better game.

It’s weird when I look back on both games in that I can mostly remember the first, but I definitely enjoyed the gameplay more in the second. Maybe the first had a stronger story in my subconscious, as I really struggle to remember much about Part II at all.

In people with PTSD, the hippocampus appears smaller in size. It's thought that changes in this part of the brain may be related to fear, anxiety and memory problems.

I did two full playthroughs of Part II back to back and even started a third to mop up collectibles, but I never finished that one. 😅 As I haven't played Part II on Grounded, that's something I'd like to do in the future, given how much I've enjoyed that in Part 1. Should be even more brutal with those dogs though.
