The argument will be that FE need to make all sort of compromises to run the distances they do. Simple response - run shorter races. If all the cars had pace more like the McMurtry and less like that Lola then maybe more people would watch them.

At the risk of getting further and further away from F1, I think the point is FE would claim that it's all got to be somewhat road-relevant. So they race on plastic tyres with deep tread and no grip, the cars have basically no aerodynamic downforce, and so on. 

 

The McMurtry is cool but it's far from road-relevant. Put it this way, I wouldn't like to be driving behind one.

I'm pretty sure its just a hill climb specialist. It would never be allowed on a racetrack with other cars and that fan.

And the battery range can't be that great in a car that small, I doubt it could even make a whole lap of the nordschleife.

The FE car had had some technical issues earlier in the weekend too.

 

I don't think FE will ever convert some people, if they went down the "really fast races over a shorter distance" route then people would complain about it not being road relevant too.

It's literally a road car.  Road registered, they are planning to put a road version into production etc.

The more road relevant an open wheel series is, the more it races into irrelevance for me. I’ll watch touring cars if I want road relevant. It’s not meant to be a science project, it’s meant to be exciting. That fan car is a step forward and it’s exciting. It looks like the future, not like a much worse electric version of something that already exists.

Yeah there are renders of the putative road version on the website. It’s got no fan and a big rear wing instead.

 

 

 

 

Edited to add: and still only one seat, which seems to me like it would hurt sales if it does ever get to market. The kind of person who might buy one of these is surely the kind of person who would want to show it off with passenger rides.
