Have to say today's one seemed less enjoyable as the possibilities were fairly limited so not much chance of scoring worse than the four I got. I prefer more esoteric options remaining available and often opt for these (to the detriment of my game stats)

 

There are definitely different approaches to playing, my son will systematically plug in letters to find words and try and minimize his score whereas I find that tedious and will simply stare and guess.

Yeah, it's one of those; once you hit the pattern, it's a toss-up as to when you get the correct final letter...

on a tear at the moment. Once again first guess did all the heavy lifting. Avoiding common combinations of letters (ing/nce and so on) definitely helps avoid the trap of being one letter off for multiple guesses.

I originally thought of a slightly more obscure word for my fifth guess (SHALE), then the answer came to mind and I resisted my usual urge to go for the more obscure word.

After my first guess I realised it might be one of THEM so went straight after consonants, but even getting shot of two possibles on my 2nd guess it was still a 50/50 on the final pop.
