I thought this was absolutely fantastic. Watched the whole season in one sitting yesterday, and I can’t think of any complaints. I was gripped throughout, excellent performances, great script, fantastic camera work, incredible sound. I honestly think it’s the best season of TV I’ve seen since Game of Thrones was good. Can’t wait for season 2.

Yeah I agree with all of that. One thing I’d add is it just had a pitch perfect tone. Not too serious but never naff nor went full comedy either. My partner and I were never not in the mood to watch it, no matter how tired we were.

10/10 first season for me.

I am 8 episodes in and whilst i am still watching it and it’s building up to something, I'm not feeling the love.

There’s a lot of teenage angst and whilst they try to tie it back to their past lives it never seems to really click for me.

Some of the plot lines are nuts and seem to require ridiculous suspension of disbeliefs.

Spoiler

Clearing a runway for a plane to take off in what seemed like a couple of hours. Building a full size funeral pyre for an injured person and setting fire to it in the middle of the jungle Etc

And vague suggestions of something happening but you’re never really sure if it’s going anywhere or if it’s just 2 dimensional teenage drama.

I’m being harsh. It’s been entertaining in places and I’m prepared to have my socks blown off in the last 2 episodes but after hearing so many great things about it I’ve felt let down so far

I felt pretty much the same whilst watching this. Weirdly though, since its finished I find myself hankering for more. So must have been doing something right.

Definitely preferred the flash back story to the present day stuff.

Just coming back in to say that having watched the last two episodes my thoughts on the series as a whole were vastly improved. I thought the last 2 episodes did a lot and made me like a number of the characters a lot more.

I have also started to wonder if my critique of some scenes was quite right because I think it has quite an unconventional approach to storytelling. It lets a number of storylines breath quite naturally rather than jamming them down your throat.

Im a bit worried that with the tonal shift at the end the 2nd series could shit the bed and by the sounds of it they’re making it up as they go along with no idea how long the the series will stay in the hype zone. That sort of thing doesn’t always end well. Looking forward to a 2nd season though.

The use of the symbol and hinted-at supernatural occurences

... were left largely undeveloped.

That’s your over-arching lore stuff that will keep going over the run of the whole show though. They’ll take their time with that if they have 5 seasons (I think?) planned.

I think they could have developed it more during this first season though. Not give away the answers, but put a bit more meat on the bones.

Just finished the first series. It was very good but I’m still not 100% sure it knows exactly what it’s doing. I’m a sucker for the music and the Lord of the Flies vibe though. So the bit when

Spoiler

they joked over Shauna’s lover’s dead body and casually chopped him up - I can’t work out if it was just clumsy or they’re deliberately portraying them as being totally desensitised from their precious experience. I think it’s the latter - in which case it was pretty well played! It just seemed a little tonally off

Slightly bugging me that we don’t know if the others know that Misty

Spoiler

fucked up the transponder.

I had assumed that they did know that and that was why they all gave her a wide berth but I’m not convinced.

The last episode sets things up nicely but feels a bit cheap

Spoiler

that they never once mentioned the other survivors.

Pleased there’s not long to wait for S2 anyway!

It's definitely a desensitised thing. They casually hint at it through series 1 like with the rabbit or Misty being a monster on the regular without clubbing you over the head.

There's a new series 2 trailer but it shows too much. Wish I'd not watched it. Slowed down "I'm Just a Girl" by Florence and the Machine in a Mad World style is the most trailer-ass trailer thing I've ever heard.

Yeah I'm not going near the trailer but I'm looking forward to the actual season as I enjoyed S1 a ton. Speaking of music though, the intro song for the show is great and it made me think it was some actual obscure 90s grunge track they'd dug out rather than an original composition.

Apparently this is on Paramount Plus in the UK and not Now TV (like the first season was).

Unless you have Sky Cinema, which includes Paramount Plus.

Ah no! I suspected that and I just can’t sub to any more TV streamers. Bloody hell.

From HotDeals, should be good for a month (then reuse with another email address):

“You will need to enter payment details so make sure to cancel after signing up to avoid paying the fees.

Just enter the code RABBITHOLE in the final stage of the sign up.
If you have already had a trial here, simply use another email, i'm sure like me, you all have plenty of these in reserve.”

Thank fuck. I absolutely cannot deal with Now TV's insane sharpening filter they put over their 1080p content. It drives me insane. Sat down to watch House of the Dragon, and it felt like I was watching something with extreme aliasing. Bought it on Amazon instead, and it was perfectly watchable.
