Ooooh! I'm intrigued.

God knows when I'll get around to it though, school's closed today and tomorrow

Two days off school to coincide with a new game? Lucky!

is it supposed to be working on PC Gamepass already? It seems to be. Oh yeah, 1pm. Whee! If only I didn't have loads of work to do.

1am! I had a quick go before work. Looks good, will play more.

First level took me 3 and a half hours to complete thoroughly.

Got invaded twice. Killed the first guy with relative ease because he was running round like a headless chicken and then had an epic sniping battle with the second along the windswept promenade of a French seaside town. He got me in the end but it was great fun all the same and ratcheted up the tension to nail-biting levels. Not sure I’d want invasions switched on throughout the game as they could get annoying after a while but it’s a very cool feature to have as an option.

Couple of other new additions to the formula like weapon upgrade customisation and what seems like better level design on first impressions means this is a very welcome follow-on from the hugely enjoyable Sniper Elite 4.

First one of these I’ve played. No idea what I’m doing. Invasions very much off. Taking my time. Dying loads, finding it tough, and that’s on Easy! Five hours in, and still only about halfway through the first area! Enjoying it a lot though. Not a pretty game, mind. Very mid-last gen, visually and jankily.

145 mins for 1st level with 3 ***. Not seeing much difference from SE4. AI is still dumb as fuck, graphics not much better.

Enjoyed though, it's good to be back :)

Did anyone else on SX get really bad stutter in the end of mission cut scene?

Yup. Hope they patch that pronto because it made the story payoff at the end of the level really difficult to follow.

That first mission was the worst i have ever played in a SE game.

I spent 30 mins looking for a breaker for a generator. I wish they just had an icon to show it.

Plus noticing a lot of bugs. Not a good first impression.

Just uninstall straight away!
The real fun is in the Gamepass 20 mins then delete meta-game! 😂

So I haven't played Sniper Elite since Sniper Elite 1 or 2 (not sure which one I played). For me the absolute highlight of that game was the tense sniper vs sniper battles in the city on Hard difficulty, where you knew there were snipers around and one shot to you was death. So it was crawling around rubble, running from cover to cover and meticulously scanning every bit of of the city ruins for sneakily hidden Nazi's or the telltale glint of a scope. It was so immersive, terrifying and all round fun.

So I'm wondering, are bits like this still part of the game? The invasion mechanic very much sounds like this and I'm all for it, but what about the AI?

There is an icon showing it, you need to select it as your objective on the map screen I think. It was certainly there for me last night.

Around half way through the first level I think, played 150 mins so far. Enjoying it a lot.

If it's similar to SE4 (not played 5 as yet) I don't really recognise that description as being representative of the enemy snipers in 4. They certainly did exist, but rarely one-shot you, and were relatively easy to locate and dispatch. That might be a function of difficulty level, mind you.

I never found that breaker. Resorted to satchel charges in the end.

I thought I was being thick when it said, "wires will lead to it" so I followed the wires leading from the thing I just crowbarred to some sort of switch thing on the wall that I couldn't interact with and shot at a few times to no effect. I googled it instead and apparently they don't mean wires from the thing you've literally just sabotaged, they mean go outside, look at the radar things and follow the wires from them to a totally different mini bunker..

It's also a bit confusing that the breaker is outside a door labelled "Generator". I found that before going into the main bunker, while my objective was still something like "search for the generator", and spent 10 minutes thinking the mission was bugged when I couldn't find any way to sabotage it.

I've just played 30 minutes or so on both Xbox Series S, and my PC (i5 8400 with GTX1080) and would just say that the performance difference is quite noticeable. The frame rate doesn't feel too smooth on Series S and it felt like 30fps. The reason this stands out to me is that I completed Sniper Elite 4 on Series S and performance was fine.

Gave this a half hour go last night.

Seems like a decent iteration of the last one.

AI seems a bit more aggressive. They spot you a lot quicker than in 4 and seem to come and have a look when they get a glimpse of you. Which they didn't do in 4.

Level design is a bit better, from what I've seen so far. A bit more open, though I quickly ran into "why can't I get over that?" situation.

I'm liking the temporary weapon thing. Better than having to ditch something, then pick it back up again. Couldn't work out why a rifle I found had armour piercing bullets, though. Clearly there was a use for it, it was basically signposted "use this here", I just couldn't work out the use.

Going to give it a couple of hours tonight...

First mission is sadly not a good introduction to the game. It's by the numbers, classic old school Sniper Elite that adds little to the formula. Things do ramp up the further you get, though, and some of the later missions are really, really good. If you can, play it in co-op with a friend, it's a really good game to play as a duo.

Hammered back down the A30 yesterday to collect this from my local indie, 45 quid with the day one dlc, bargain.

Get a call from my plasterer that we are very much on for this weekend, and I subsequently have an outside wall to prep for tonight/tomorrow. I walked back inside at 10pm having primed said walls looking like Ash from alien after parker cuffs him with a fire extinguisher.

I have at least managed to install it all.

Anyone doing invasions or have them turned on? I had them off for the first mission as I figured not having played SE4 much I don't want to get sniped while I'm learning the controls. I've invaded a couple of people though, both times have ended in ignominy for me though :(

Is it possible to do this 100% stealth? On the first level, I'm approaching the radar towers and I can't see any way to do it without sniping/attracting attention.

I did use the silent mines, but the AI started freaking out trying to wake the unconscious guards up and glitched out, ending up firing their weapons while the animation had them laying unconscious.

It is possible but very cumbersome. You need to crawl in big circles around the radar towers and slowly progress in an inwards spiral, melee killing as many as you can or using a hand gun with sub sonic ammo/sabotaging trucks, generators and other stuff to mask your sounds.
