Premium has been a joke and I'm glad that Eurogamer has written an article on it today, Sony need to be called out on it, I will be downgrading to Extra when my current subscription expires next year.

Yeah same here I think although I find the streaming pretty good on PS5 to be fair.

Similarly, I have no issues with the streaming. I've completed a bunch of PS3 games using it with no problems at all. You basically forget that it's being streamed.

I wonder if many of the people bemoaning streaming are doing so just because they don't like the idea, rather than having had bad experiences using it.

My Remote Play time isn’t showing up in my Stars nonsense. Any ideas what?

I started that campaign today too. It just took a bit of time for the app to recognise I’d done it but it now shows 25% complete. I’ve done another sesh since then so hopefully that will show up soon too.

Streaming doesn't work for me at home and is dogshit at my parents.

Still nothing. Just played another hour, so hoping that will register.

That’s crap isn’t it, going forwards they need a BC solution don’t they.

there's no reason that PS1-PS3 BC isn't a local solution on PS5 other than Sony can't be arsed allocating resources

it's properly put me off the platform.

Same. Thinking of cancelling my sub as the PS5 has become my partner's FF14 machine.

I got grandfathered in with a long Plus sub and the PS Now trick but honestly if this is the level of quality we can expect, absolutely fuck this. Just makes GPU look even more like a bargain.

Yeah, I find the vitriol towards this service very odd. Sure, they’ve completely fucked up with the positioning of the Premium tier (it’s confusing, and the retro game section is like a digital charity shop). It should just be Extra + Streaming really. But it’s only £16 extra, and of course, you don’t need to take it.

But the extra tier is really good. Loads of PS5 and PS4 games to download and play for £30ish more than the old PS Plus sub cost.

I think some people, myself included, naively thought that when Sony relaunched the service that we'd start seeing noticeable improvements to the streaming side of things and it hasn't happened. There's countries where streaming on PC doesn't work for some reason despite streaming on PS4 and PS5 being available and it doesn't look we're getting streaming support on Android or iOS anytime soon either.

I hadn't realised people were so obsessed with replaying Dino Crisis though.

Here in Australia we don't have the infrastructure for game streaming.

So we're paying extra for classics we get no access to.

I don't think that's right. The top tier isn't available in Australia or other regions without PSNow from what I've read.

Would it matter if the PS4 couldn't run PS3 games locally and PS5 could? It can't do it now so it's not like PS4 owners would be losing anything.

If Sony want to continue offering access to PS3 games then they'll have to built a PS3 emulator at some point. It's not like they can continue to install new PS3 hardware in data centres long term.

Streaming has a really slow startup time as well. Launching your own virtual PS3 and then the game is slooooow

Yeah it can be. Streaming is a good way to test out massive games rather than waiting to download them, but for smaller titles it’s hardly worth it these days with high internet speeds.

I’ve had 2 more sessions and neither of those registered. And the campaign seems to have disappeared from the app for me so I wonder if it’s screwed up. Not sure what 75 points is actually worth in real life anyway.

Disappeared for me also. By my maths it’s 30p based on 250pts = £1 (1,250 for a £5 voucher).

I wouldn't go that far, Extra is really quite good and has quite a lot of crossover with GamePass (though obv. doesn't get day one stuff in the same way). The shitness of premium actually drags it down by existing.

Extra is fine if you only have a PlayStation but premium is absolutely terrible and Sony should be taken to task over it.

You're paying extra for practically nothing at this point, we're not even getting the PS1 and PS2 games that Sony themselves have re-released before.

Its also pretty shitty that you have to upgrade your entire sub to premium if you have an existing one, you can't just upgrade for a month for example then drop back down to a different tier. They've had years to think this through and Microsoft have set a decent example, though not totally flawless at least it's clear and value for money.

Extra is fine but the lack of day one games means that I would never choose it over Gamepass. Or even in conjunction with Gamepass. And I'm not just talking about Microsoft's first party releases, of which there have been none for basically a year now anyway. I'm talking about the countless day one games from third parties and indies that are nearly totally absent from Extra.

If more stuff like Stray came to Extra day one I'd be more inclined to subscribe but every time I look at the monthly drops it seems like it's 10-15 games that are several years old. And even though they're usually quite 'big' games in terms of name, by the time a game is that old I will almost certainly have played it already if I was truly interested.

Long story short, more Stray and less old Ubisoft games and I might subscribe now and then.
