As I'm sure many other will agree, Returnal is an absolutely amazing game, and well worth £30 of anyone's money.  Don't sleep on it.  I think that Extra is the sweet spot of the tiers for me, if you're just getting a PS5 then the selection is pretty great and it seems pretty likely to me that we'll eventually get most of the first-party games somewhere down the line.  Clearly aren't going to broadcast it while they can still sell them for £70 but Ratchet and Clank must be a shoe-in at some point, and maybe we'll even get Forbidden West once that's been out a year or so.

It’s a game I’ve wanted for a long time but I have so many games in my backlog that I’m making a conscious effort to clear those first, many of which are PS Plus games e.g. God of War, Control Ultimate, Sniper 4 etc. so no need to upgrade PS Plus at the moment either. The only real exceptions is Racing games e.g. GT7 and F1 22.

I can't make head nor tale of these new tiers in terms of what is available as the store front is a pure mess but as my PS+ expires in a month and it's only £5 or £8 for the two higher tiers I reckon it must be worth a trial.

If I do though can I just carry on playing Returnal without the disc? It'd be nice to do away with needing the disc as it's been in there since the game's launch day and I am too lazy to insert any other game disc (and have no real interest in playing any other games I own on disc tbf). I recall I could never get the PS+ Wipeout to work, it just kept asking for the disc so I never bothered as I can't be arsed to search for said disc.

Also, has RDR2 been upgraded for PS5 at all or is that too much to ask? I quite fancy another playthrough of that but if it's just bog standard PS4 I'll probably pick up a PC copy instead.

I think you'll need to download and install the non-disc version of Returnal. Your save files should remain though.

No, RDR2 hasn't been upgraded for PS5, although I've heard rumours that it's on the cards, e.g. this IGN artcle.

Great, thanks!

I may need to do that for Wipeout too then which would be good as I wouldn't mind giving that a spin again.

Try it first, just in case I'm wrong, but my understanding is that the installed disc versions have to be replaced by the digital version. It was the same with PS4 titles.

I'll do so just as soon as I get home later...

Why is the PS5 version of Ape Escape 662mb and the PS4 version just over 1gig ?

Possibly due to better on-disk compression tech available to PS5 software  https://www.psu.com/news/ps5-to-benefit-from-new-compression-tech-ssd-could-hit-21-compression-and-15gb-s-speeds/

Sony's attempt to mitigate smaller SSD sizes on the new console. Someone should tell Activision about it!

This has indeed worked for Wipeout (delete my disc copy and DL the digital) so assume the same for Returnal. Doing away with the discs for Returnal and Demon's Souls is almost enough to justify the increased cost alone. That said, I'm already just about out of storage for PS5 games but assume/hope replacing disc with digital won't be much different in terms of storage so should be OK...

Just upgraded my current year of PS+ to Extra for £33.

Currently have the following downloading:

Death Stranding DC
Returnal
Miles Morales
Disaster Report 4
R-Type Final 2
Raiden V
DPA: Man of Medan
DPA: Little Hope
Medievil

Should do for starters!

Stray in July too. 😍

WRC10 is kind of ace. Really good on wheel and pad, plenty to do and PS5 version loads really quickly.
In cockpit view when you’re squinting through a low sun on a wet road it looks incredibly life like.
Stop to actually look at the scenery or the replays and the illusion falls away, but in action it’s fantastic. They’re only a smallish developer and they’ve slowly improved the WRC games over the years to a very high standard.

For £14 to upgrade to Extra until my next annual charge, it’d be daft not to. There’s much more on there than I was expecting. It seems like a pretty good value proposition even at the eighty quid a year. Opened with some Space Hulk Tactics, Maneater and one of the monster truck games. If pretending to be a shark, moving little space mans around a board and driving massive brum brum trucks isn’t indicative of my gloriously pathetic manchildness, I don’t know what is. Wheeeeeeeeeee!

Seems PS5 game streaming isn't currently available on the service which is a shame. Seems to be due to the infrastructure only running up to PS4 hardware. Guess they'll get it sorted in the end.

Still tempted to give Premium a try for the month on my PC to play some of the PlayStation back catalogue though and give the service a try.

Makes sense if they're already having trouble producing enough hardware to keep up with the demand for the PS5. For a while there Xcloud was also running on One S tech until they'd finally upgraded enough hardware to switch to Series X tech. It seemed like the Series X also became easier to find in the shops from that point on.

Is it possible to sign up for a higher tier, then add a bunch of games to your library, fully knowing that your backlog will never allow you to play them before your doss, odd-few-months-cause-it-was-going-cheap subscription ends, and still be able to DL and play said titles at a much later date once your subscription ends and no fucking way you’ll be renewing at full price fuck off?

Actual reason: in the hope that they’d bung us some good games per month. Looks like they’ve all been papped to expensive new tiers though.

"Well that month was shite, maybe next month"

...3 years later...
