PlayStation Plus Premium - Out Now

I thought Spidey would be the remastered PS5 version but I can only find PS4. Miles Morales is PS5 though.

The store front is rubbish, even simple filters for platform would make a massive difference.

Anyone tried Mr Driller? Why is it so loud, almost to the point of distortion?

Also, I can't decide if my memory is playing tricks on me. I tried a couple of PS1 games (Mr Driller and Tekken 2) and the intro videos have seriously crazy MPEG compression, I don't remember them being that bad quality back back in the day but maybe they always were and my OLED just highlights the issue.

Hah! I remember seeing the intro video to Tekken 2 and wondering how 3D graphics could ever get any better. I’m sure they were that bad. I mean, this was even before mpeg-2 compression for DVD.

This is an almost unbelievable mess. The UI simply isn’t ready, there’s no indication the upgrade will or won’t consume your existing account balance before charging your card (it does, whether you like it to not). Then you’re plunged into a confusing array of crappy menus mostly full of shovelware. Sometimes you get the PS5 version, sometimes you get the PS4 version. Sometimes you can stream, sometimes you can’t. Sometimes you can only stream. Some of the free games say you’ve already purchased them. They all say you can purchase them even though they’re free. The menus struggle to keep up and flip between buy/download/wishlist as it struggles to figure out the default option for you.

I fired up Bloodborne via streaming mode, it’s flickering white bands constantly like a dodgy HDMI cable and tearing far worse than the original game did. “This internet connection quality isn’t sufficient for game streaming, the game will close”. I’ve got the PS5 connected directly to a router with solid gigabit fiber.

Shambles.

Turns out you can filter by Platform......but only on the main “Plus Premium Games” section, not on the “Plus Premium Games Catalogue” section or in the “Classics Catalogue” or in any of the other sections. Those you can only filter by genre. Of course, when you filter by genre, half the games in that genre don’t show up. Even the dedicated genre “Collections” section doesn’t have half the games listed. I’m amazed that people actually got paid a wage to create this system. It’s fucking unreal how bad it is!

@cubik Think it’s just how the audio was mastered on the game. It’s compressed to all fuck to make it really loud and punchy. Remember it being the same on Dreamcast. Just had a quick go on it and it’s great but I still absolutely suck at it!

The MPEG compression does seem a lot worse than I remember though. But I guess playing on a CRT TV through an RF lead back in the day would have helped cover stuff up. 😁 Jumping to Man of Medan straight after, makes it feel like I’ve time travelled about 100yrs into the future. It’s nuts how far games have come graphically!

Tekken 2 had those crazy compression artefacts on release on the FMV, I thought my PSOne was broken but I think they just compressed it to get everything on the disc.

Mr Driller has some crazy sound compression happening, same as back in the day. It's like adverts where the sound isn't louder decibel wise but it's so compressed it sounds louder. I have to turn the volume on the TV down from 20 to about 3 for Mr Driller.

I'm in Australia so we don't get any of the streaming titles but this is already as good as GamePass in terms of content. Good news for me, bad news for my partner who has enjoyed using the PS5 for the past year for FF14, there's now competition for the use of the console. Also bad news for Steam, there were two games I was going to buy in the Steam sale, both are on the new service so they've lost out there.

Give me 24hrs to check all the menus and I’ll get back to ya and let ya know! 😂

Unfortunately it’s not on there......yet. It’s a promising start with the games that are available but only time will tell if it ends up fulfilling its potential in terms of classic games.

From the initial line up of PS4/5 games this has a fair few I've wanted to try but never really wanted to pay for as I'm not sure they're my bag.

Returnal, Death Stranding, Agents of Mayhem, Last Day Of June, Warhammer Inquisitor, Warhammer Chaosbane, Necromunda Underhive (not the FPS one) and Sundered have all been downloaded from a first pass through the service.

With Stray coming next month, that's already more than paid back the £100 I paid for the first two years of the service in terms of value.

I've also got my eye on Little Nightmares, Blasphemous, Bloodstained, Children of Moria, The Turing Test and the Mafia trilogy.

Plenty to be going at.

Looking forward to people finding hidden gems in and posting them in here as time goes on.

No additional PS2 games whatsoever right now. Just the PS4 ports that were released ages ago running in PS4 BC. Until they decide to get an actual emulator up and running the answer is "no" to any PS2 title you can think of outside of those titles.

I was working for Gamestation when God Hand came out. Someone comes to buy it, I'm searching for the disc and manual in the drawer but can't find it at all. We have about 7 copies so it's gotta be in the drawer somewhere. Eventually I find it under C, someone legitimately thought the game was called "Cod Hand" and filed it as such.

Now I’m looking forward to the sequel - Cod Hand 2: Fish Fingers.

Is the “PS5 version” of TLOU2 on there for download? I’ve got PS4 discs for that and Death Stranding both still in their shrink wrap. Thinking I’d be as well flogging them on eBay and using the funds to stump up the £20 that I can seemingly spend to upgrade to the top tier for half a year. Especially factoring in that I’d need to spend a tenner to upgrade my copy of Death Stranding to the Directors Cut 🤔

What would YOU do?

Someone said they’ve been playing Kurushi - when I look at the website it’s not listed under either the Games Catalog(ue) or the Classics Catalog(ue).

So is the website listing also incomplete? (as well as using US English despite definitely being the en-gb URL)

I reiterate the same thing from somewhere else I posted it -

Why is this sort of thing so fucking hard for companies do well?

I don't understand how/why these gaming portals are so fucking atrocious in the way they work.

Clearly I'm missing something fundamental and I'm an idiot because everything they do seems to offend my eyes and hurt my brain in the ineptitude of the implementation. It's bonkers.

I think the rules are to make it as incomprehensible as possible so you accidentally click, buy and download some Warhammer DLC.

But also fair play on the amount of 2D shooters on here (Housemarques entire back catalogue, R-Type, Raiden and about 20 Japanese waifuemups that don’t follow any grammatical naming conventions). Struggling to pick one to absolutely cane.

Anyone who hasn't played Observation yet should do so. A great space survival game where you play as the station AI. (Content warning for those susceptible to strobing or flickering images though.)

My mate told me to get it so I made it the first game.

The frame rate is abysmal and the controls are like scraping a blackbird for me. I think I can quite clearly see it's going to be  a bunch of go to this room and do this.

The gameplay comes from moving a reeeeeeeally slow camera finding a thing and holding a button to show the game you found it.

Not really impressed, it's the controls I just can't deal with.

Frame rate was fine for me but that's on PS5. I'd say if you can't get on with it now you're safe to give it a miss. I loved it, my partner was keen to try it and she found it slow, made her feel ill and gave her a massive headache. It's an acquired taste. That's the best thing with this model though, don't like it just move onto something else!
