Nice!  Solid shooting.  My clacker and right thumb go all over the shop compared to this lol.

So I got funnelled into Fiesta by my Weeklies last night - a couple of fun call-outs include 1) my first hijacking of an aerial vehicle with the grappleshot!  Bloody thing (I think it was a wasp) was stalking me for a while and I suddenly remembered I had grapple ability.  Felt awesome!  And 2) after being blown up by a Scorpion tank, I respawned with the disruptor and skewer, found a spot a little underneath the tank and started pummelling away until it blew!  In hindsight I think I could have done more with the disruptor - disruptor first then skewer while it was paralysed - so one or more occupants may have escaped, but not for long ha.  The tank was causing some headaches for the team, so I have visions of being virtually cheered and lofted into the air like it was the end of Star Wars.

I uploaded some videos! 🙂

Turns out I did kill the occupants of the scorpion, and got a double kill in the process #CallMeLukeSkywalker

(Seriously, I know this stuff isn't that impressive - I was just quite excited by the results, especially as I haven't been that much into MP FPS games previously - and this personal video gameplay capture and upload thing is new for me too.)

Ultimate rewards for the next few weeks are currently on reddit and they are...underwhelming. Apparently if you want a new armor colour to work for because you don't want to buy the battle pass or shell out obscene amounts of money on the store, you're shit outta luck.

We got multiple colored visors, a weapon charm, weapon emblems and backdrops all coming but not a single new armor color or combo 😕

Managed to finish the weekly challenges - only for the 'ultimate challenge' to be killing enemies by hitting them with vehicles. 5 times. Something I've probably only done twice in total and something I CAN'T DO AT ALL now as Big Team Battle is fucked and other game types with vehicles are few and far between.

I don't care about the measley reward but a lot of this seems pretty broken - I just wanted to test myself and complete a weekly challenge.

Good job the game play is so solid!

Pretty much man yea. It's beyond rubbish that they haven't at least taken the BTB challenges out for now until they fix it 😕

Yeah I've uninstalled until they fix some of the issues, I was on a menu screen yesterday for 15 minutes trying to get a BTB game, only for it to finally launch as 4vs4. Plus I've been having twice as many crashes as before the campaign launched.

It's a bit too fucked to persevere with atm.

I'm holding out for now. Whether I stay playing will depend on how soon 343 put a plan out, fingers crossed 😕

I just won't bother with BTB til they say they've sorted it.

Definitely sticking with it because it's so much fun online. It's just frustrating because they've nailed the overall feel and the gameplay. They just really need to sort out the challenges and some of those key performance issues.

Still perplexed why comprehensive stats aren't on Waypoint yet for example. I know it's not exactly essential, but along with non existent customisation options aside from the shitty battle pass, it just makes this mode feel unfinished.

Is what I have open whenever I play. It makes it easier to see why you lost so much rank as well because it tells you the % chance that you had of winning/losing the match. I.E if you had a 70% chance to win and then lost the match with a negative K/D/A it's a bit easier to see why you lose a hefty amount etc.

Not played any ranked games until today, I'm total shite but still got over 20 kills in one match so pity those poor fools. 3 kills with the skull in a row gets an achievement put picking it up and holding on to it for the whole round doesn't?

Just to go back to the chat on the last page - the xp bar (the highlighted bit in particular) shows the net gain for the session so you could lose 50 rank points or however it's measured from your start position and then gain 55 for a good game but the blue bar will only reflect the 5 increase so will look measly.

Agree on a lot of the other stuff, I have 1 weekly challenge to do still - I'm on 1/2 of capturing the enemy flag. Getting a CTF game is hard enough but when playing solo getting a competent team is impossible. I brought it to within 5 metres of the cap point on Aquarius and died, only for a team mate to run it back all the way to the other base. Next time I was lurking with it until my team returned ours (they didn't even look to go hunting for it) and one was shooting me as I wasn't scoring, oblivious that our flag needed to be home to score.

Yeah I hate CTF if im in solo queue man. One min I'm defending cos my team are running off to attack then when I go to make a push because it looks like they're in one place they start pushing as well. Best mode in a group, worst mode in solo or 2's imo.

And, uninstalled. Lost another 4 in a row.

According to Halo tracker out of the last 19 games I've played, I've won 4 of them only. That isn't right and it's just not worth sticking around for anymore.

Played with a mate just now and the same matchmaking BS is still happening. Other team is full diamond, we have an unranked and a plat 2 in our team. It's just so disappointing because the gunplay is great but every single match recently has been a stomping and an exercise in frustration.

Until matchmaking changes are made, I'm not coming back.

As an aside, there are 2 maps in fiesta with vehicles on it - launch site & behemoth. You might hate fiesta though. They should come up in team slayer too I suppose.

The big problem they're going to face in terms of player retention is that it’s becoming clear that a lot of players are finishing the battle pass about now. Like it or not the games industry has now conditioned most players to expect to have bars to fill up and trinkets to fall out like rats getting a piece of cheese in a maze. So while some of us may happily stay around just for the gameplay, I'd wager the majority won't beacause that's how the market works nowadays. It's fallen to 36 in the Steam Charts already. Things like tying challenges to objective modes that you might have to play 8 games to even get a round of start with and nonsense like a weekly splatter challenge when BTB is still broken will just serve to drive off players who have a limited amount of game time each week even quicker.

Problem is they've made it clear that we shouldn't expect much, if anything, until season 2 - which has been delayed to five months from now in May 2022. They've indicated it won't even get new maps until then. It's clear the initial glacier progression was just there to make up for a lack of content. Now they've increased that after all the negative publicity they were getting, people are polishing it off too quick with nothing else on the horizon for a long time. What baffles me across the board (including single-player, which I enjoyed) is just how unproductive 343 are. There's a weird thing in main thread where people talk about them like they're a struggling small indie studio and not the flagship developers of the richest corporation in the world, a studio that has more employees than most other AAA studios.

Their winter event is a joke compared to pretty much every other game out there doing one right now. You don't even need to compare it to your Fortnites and CoDs and your Valorants. Compare it to Splitgate. A game that people were describing as a Tesco Value Halo. That game has a dev team of 25 people (according to Google), but it still did stuff like special temporary winter themed versions of maps, changed their loading and menu screens and various trinkets that put the one vaguely Christmassy colour scheme you can only apply to a single armour core in Halo to shame.

You can’t even blame the players for acting this way. Like I say players have been conditioned for this for a long time now. The industry regularly employs psychologist and specialists to try and engender this behaviour in people. We know 343 have a team dedicated to this, job postings were reported on during development, in fact they have an opening on that team on their website right now.

Completely agree tbh. I'm not interested in the BP at all, I played it just for the gameplay but I agree that people are conditioned to play it for the pass. Some people I play with that played H5 religiously now spend time saying "I need to play this mode/use this weapon etc because I have a challenge."

No you don't? The BP rewards are shite anyway, someone did the research and something like 1/3 of the whole pass rewards are challenge swaps and double xp boosts. There's so much filler rubbish in there like different shoulderpads it's insulting. If you're on the free pass like me, you don't even get a new helmet until level 80 or something daft.

Regardless of the BP issues, people will stop playing because of the various issues with ranked. Even those issues aside, there's like 5 maps in ranked, one of which is beyond broken, so call it 4. We were discussing this in party chat the other night, none of those maps bring a "Oh, sweet this map" when you get them, they are all poor. Aquarius is the ONLY one that I actually kinda like. No way will people stick with ranked till MAY with just that piss poor selection of maps.

Genuinely think if 343 don't put a statement within the next week stating their plans for ranked, that count will drop further. They've been off on holiday for weeks now, having left the game in a broken state with certain modes not even functional at the moment. And yet still have the audacity to put stuff in their cash shop at the £20/£30 mark for cat ears, iron man skins and AI voicelines, as a life long fan of Halo, I find it disgusting. That's kinda why I've been so vocal here recently because I'm so disappointed with them.

They're not an indie studio and I don't get this defence of them. They took 6 years to release a lacklustre, unoriginal campaign that Last Jedi'd the plot and a broken MP component with barely any maps. This is becoming the industry standard and people repeatedly keep justifying it by saying "It's free, it'll be good in x months." NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Rant over, sorry.

Man those cat ears sold like hot cakes though. This is all our fault really. 😀

People were complaining that battle pass progression was too slow and now they’ll start complaining they are done with it.

I share varsity’s play patterns I think. I’ve never even looked at the rewards or challenges. I think all rewards look shite to me and I have bought the things I like to wear.

I play quick play if I get a bit of time and fear I might be at risk of having to drop off mid match and I play ranked when I get a bit of time and really want to get into it and concentrate.

My experience with ranked has been the same, in that they seem to expect you to loose more than you win. I wonder what the design thinking is behind that. It’s the dark souls of matchmaking!

It's because 30% of the playerbase is currently in Diamond/Onyx. So if you're also in Diamond, you could get matched with shit hot diamond players or piss poor ones. There's too much variance in skill in that tier and in Onyx.

If you play well and get good rng then you should smash wins, however, if you keep getting matched against shit hot people you'll just lose over and over.

That's been my experience anyway. The whole ranked system needs an overhaul.

Edit: This pretty much sums it up for me

Yeah, I don't think the progression system (or lack thereof) is really the biggest problem. The game simply wasn't in a state to really launch, there's loads of missing features, bugs, netcode problems, and poor decisions that just affect the experience in loads of little negative ways that add up.

Want to play with your friends? Good luck, you have to go outside the game to set up a party and invite people and then you can't even play together because it'll distribute your friends on different teams due to bugs. Have someone with a hot mike piping in muffled game audio all game? Good luck not being able to mute them because the game is hilariously barebones and has no social functionality. Run into a cheater? Good luck reporting them, because again there's no in-game functionality, you have to go to a webpage and attach a recording from theatre, a five step process which also has like fifteen different bugs. Want to play a custom game? Good luck, because the moment you step outside of the campaign/matchmaking everything just has like 20 really visible bugs you'll encounter in a half hour and you'll keep getting disconnects. You can literally do all of this in the series own predecessors, it's gone backwards.

Why would someone coming from a competent F2P game like Apex, Siege, Warzone play this one that's offers far less? Those games are all running holiday events with new time limited gameplay modes and so on, this games events aren't going to attract or retain players because they're fucking nothing.

I think I kept it installed as long as I did because they added these four extra modes and I could play what I want, I imagine if they'd have stuck to their original plans of not launching those until Jan it'd be even more dead now.

I wonder what it is that makes them inefficient. It is weird that the only other studio to have worked in halo are also bafflingly inefficient. I have always wondered about bungie. in terms of pvp destiny 2 still has mostly the maps it came with with no changes to said maps since 5 years ago. and they seem to spend absolute ages working on content to then release some small bit of DLC with mostly rehashed content from the base game. They are also a huge studio and were getting support from activition with satellite studios. In the meantime insomniac release a game every 2 months. what is the difference?  Any educated insights from people with game developer experience?
