Interesting stuff so far. McTominay has clearly been told to get forward and get onto through balls.

Meanwhile Fred has already demonstrated why we need someone like De Jong.  He's not good enough in possession to play that role.

Playing with more authority and confidence than the latter half of last season but it’s not been a completely inspiring start.

edit:

Dalot and McTominay both stood pointing at Trossard rather than closing him down. We just allowed him to play the through ball, and as soon as we did, with the overlap on the other side we were always struggling.

I don’t like to pile on the guy but what was Maguire doing in both goals? Who was he marking? No man’s land. And Shaw… as if you don’t know that guy favours his left foot.

It’s what happens when you don’t back the manager in the main completely obvious areas of need.

Don't worry, after this the board will see how big the problem is and react by spending the entire budget on Neymar without consulting the manager, then getting Ighalo back in on loan.

Eriksen has been excellent. We'll soon bring him down to our level.

Martinez looks like he's already there, judging by that challenge. It's no where near as clear-cut as that bellend Carragher is making out, but we couldn't have had any complaints if it had been given.
