Football weekly mentioned that De Gea had the ball towards the end of the game, Maguire called for it, De Gea chose to kick it to the other side straight out of play. Think Maguire is aware that others in the team think he’s in really bad form.

I think his desire to impose himself on the game and try to press were clearly illustrated by the 4th Liverpool goal where he pressed high up leaving an almighty gap at the back. It was the act of a player in bad form but I do think he was trying. I also felt pretty sorry for Lingard as well, when he came on it was clear he was trying to press more aggressively and he seemed to be the only vocal player out there.

He definitely tries, and to his credit he hasn't been hiding in recent weeks or months.  He was earlier in the season, but he seems to be trying to play himself back into form by getting involved more and more.  He sometimes seems to be the guy doing all the defending for the team, when Lindelof has wandered off and Dalot and Telles are awol.  The upshot of this, combined with how much his head is completely shot, and his own natural clumsiness, has meant that virtually every game he makes some kind of catastrophic error, often just by getting himself involved in scrambles, like when the ball went through his legs for one of City's goals, and when he inexplicably pulled Luke Shaw to the ground as he was about to clear the ball.

Is Maguire the problem though, or is it the curse of Man Utd which reduces previously good players and managers to the status of bumbling clowns?

"We need our own Pep Guardiola!"
"Well, there is this fella..."
"Does he think like him? Act like him? Has the same record of success like him?"
"No. But he looks a bit like him."
"Get the contract ready immediately!"

Worryingly plausable.

I'd hope that more youth players get a chance for the last few games rather than players who will probably end up leaving in the summer.

I think we'd all hope for that but even when it seems 4th is impossible, we'll just likely see the same team as the manager -even as interim- will still want to avoid being hammered and won't have the trust in youth needed.

The thing with Hannibal is you'd expect a player making his first league appearance all season to give his all, and he did, sort of, with the tackling. He's not been in the first team all season dejected by it all. Neville's 'Hannibal is the only player who has shown the passion and commitment required' reminds me of listening to footballistically Arsenal years ago and one of them going 'none of these people are Arsenal. Do you know the only person who is Arsenal through and through? Wilshere'.

As a fantasy football player who is doing worse every week it's quite hard to gauge Ronaldo when he scores braces and hat tricks inbetween very little for ages. I didn't see the Arsenal vs Chelsea scoreline and early kick offs don't usually bring goals..

shame Pellistri isn't here:

Quote

Facundo Pellistri has cast doubt on his future at Manchester United.

On-loan with Alaves, Pellistri's last LaLiga start came in December and he's failed to see out a whole 90 minutes all campaign.

Speaking candidly to Sport890, he said: “Sometimes one gets frustrated for not having minutes, I try to support myself in my family.

“When the season ends with Alaves I have to go back to Manchester, do the pre-season and then see what I do. The best thing for me would be to find a team that allows me to have as many minutes as possible.

“Today the priority that I give to my future is to have minutes - if it is in Manchester it would be a dream, otherwise I will have to look for another team to achieve that."

Pellistri is contracted at United until 2025.

Hopefully Erik Ten Hag is randomly googling youth United players and phoning them up to convince them to stay.

What a waste that loan seems to have been. He's not young at 20, he looked good for Uruguay a few times. I'll be disappointed if he doesn't come through next season. 'Sometimes one gets'? The eloquence. And 'if it is in Manchester it would be a dream'...a dream? That sounds like he values playing for Man United, what a step up from many here.

They've looked dangerous going forward. Sancho has played okay, Elanga too. Matic has been tidy and played some nice passes. Bruno hasn't done much, I'd be tempted to take him off and put Lingard on, see if he puts in a performance that shows he wants to stay at the club.

Ronaldo has been our best player by a mile.

United are as soft as Norwich. There's an inevitability to conceding goals, opposition teams don't have to work hard. Because of Arsenal's nervousness at the back, there seems more urgency in taking advantage in pressing a bit more. Like, some fire ignited, but just...some.

There's been more goodwill towards Rangnick than there should be imo because I think most managers would do a better job than this.

Rangnick said he was contacted because United were conceding too many goals so it's on his terms he's failed. But..you know, the players are lazy twats too etc.
