Weird half. We should have been out of sight before their equaliser but we got oddly tentative in the box.  Greenwood has been the driving force of everything good we've done.  Lingard keeps winning the ball and immediately losing it. I love Mata, but he's a problem in a deep midfield role. Matic is similarly out of sorts at the back. At times it's like Bailly is the only centre back and VDB the only central midfielder.

Perhaps it might be worth bringing on Mengi, moving Matic into midfield, and Mata wide. I'd probably take off Elanga, who hasn't really looked like affecting the game.

Can't watch this (watching Red Notice instead which actually I'm really enjoying), how are Diallo and Van De Beek doing? Any chance of starting, or making sub appearances in the premier league?

I think Donny has been excellent, playing as the deepest midfielder. He's made tackles and lots of nice touches. However, he was responsible for the equalising goal, giving the ball away carelessly in a dangerous area. Diallo looks a distance from a start.  He's done some good stuff, looks good running with the ball, and willing to do his defensive work.  He's looked very indecisive in the last third on a couple of occasions though.

We're really lucky not to be losing. Surely Young Boys will score sooner or later.

Fizzled out as soon as Rangnick went full avantgarde with Mengi at left-back, which went about as well as his little stint there in the reserves a couple of years ago.

Not much worth reporting. Neither full-back did enough to push for a start. Henderson might well be the preferred number one for his higher line, but I doubt that'll happen right away. Van der Beek's best habits at Ajax are his worst playing this deep for Rangnick.

Greenwood MotM, purely for the excellence of that finish - one of the goals of the season. Bailly was also decent. UtFR.

Edit: Considering his place in the squad and what's required under the new regime, that might be the last start Mata has at United. Wonderful player to watch, and a pity he never got to feature in a great United squad. Lovely man too. Salute to Johnny Kills.

Why is the pitch sloped down like that at OT? Always so dangerous.

It’s not the only place that does it,  but essentially it’s so the tv camera can see the bottom of the advertising boards. If they were raised higher you’d start killing rows of seats. I assume the pitch can’t be lower due to the undersoil heating and whatnot, but I’m only guessing this part.

It's probably too much of me to expect either to start games when it's taken months for Sancho to be considered. I suppose I'm just bored of the same midfield for years. Even bbc 5 live are going with this 'Red Fred Redemption' thing as though he hasn't been one of the midfield mainstays for years. His attributes are valued, it became more of a very long joke he couldn't score at United although he used to at Shakhtar Donetsk, it always seeming like, overlooking the lack of accuracy thing, just having no power in his shot. This one was laid off to him but you still wouldn't think this is someone who is so bad at shooting.

That give away by Van De Beek is quite funny because the shot is unbelievable and it happens a second later. For someone who can't get in the side, to give the ball away and have the opposition score a worldie must feel like nothing is going right for him.

That Greenwood goal was so fast I wonder if any keeper (including the world's best and the all time greats) could have stopped it.
