Ronaldo plus inverted wide forwards, versus no Ronaldo and wide forwards on their natural sides? Both can work, but I reckon the former will be the go-to until Rangnick has his midfield sorted. It does a ton of his defensive work without having to coach anything.

 

Ronaldo's 800th goal? Christ, some doing that.

It has. Ominous for Wan-Bissaka and Shaw if this is Rangnick's shape, though like I said I'm all for it until he sorts his midfield. A bit frustrating for Rashford and Sancho right now, but at least it encourages them to run with the ball and guarantees shrinking the pitch whenever it's lost. He can coach the details over time.

Apart from where he missed the stonewall penalty at first viewing, of course.  :D

 

That's exactly what VAR is for, and an example of why it should be a good thing for the game.
