Bit late, but I had some prints from https://dscolourlabs.co.uk/ recently and they turned out great. I originally ordered some from https://myfujifilm.co.uk/ but they were awful ( exact same files )

Both printed on same Fuji paper and probably same printer. DS labs also really good value.

We've got Lucas doing 365 days of photos via Instagram (link below) and also a photo of the week based on a theme. Really like the one he produced this week. I little heavy on the face shadows, but love the idea.

Come back from a few days in Western Cornwall so I'm now going to bore you all with a series of photos. Weather was very mixed, had great (but windy) conditions the first evening (these shots) but after that it was just windy and grey. Still saw some lovely locations though and got to visit places I'd been to before.

 

These all taken at Godrevy. The wind was very strong so sea spray was going everywhere, very challenging to keep the lens & filters clean. Also couldn't get as close as I'd like on the rocks on the second set of images as the waves were crashing so violently. Quite a sight! These all taken at sunset, at one point it looked as if it'd be a very dull evening but we were surprised and welcomed a bit of drama in the sky.

 

 

 

 

 

 

This final one taken at the exact same spot as the one above, but spinning 90 degrees. The colour had already gone around the lighthouse and so just took one snap but the light then faded. Probably about 2 pixels to the left of the frame was another photographer, so didn't quite get the setup I wanted. Still quite like it though.

I loved this location, Logan Rock (Porthcurno) in Cornwall. You can see the rock in the second pic. The deep blue of the sea slowly coming and making a nice sandbar was quite lovely to watch. In the first pic you can see two tiny figures walking along. They soon had their clothes off and went for a cold February dip. Turns out it's a nudest beach. 

 

 

 

This one is as near as dammit to Lands End as you can get without being in an overly expensive, tacky tourist attraction. The view is lovely...the conditions were not. The wind was immense, the rain was blowing all over. I managed this shot by squeezing down between some rocks and finding a nice safe, sheltered ledge to huddle into. The first headland you can see was mostly hidden in rain, but for a few seconds it cleared enough to get this shot. I'd found this location on a previous visit several years ago, where I had the opposite issue - it was too bright and the light too harsh. Never happy me.

 

These three shots were all the same day (last Tuesday in fact), and as you can see...the sky was as dull as can be. A real shame to get conditions like this on photography trip but it's part of the game. Loved the locations though and I'm only a couple of hours away so will be returning again at some point this year!

What's better (or worse)? The first is without much colour correction. The second corrected by eye (with a shitty monitor).

The first has quite a nice timeless quality to it, but the second is a lot better in my opinion. I might tone down those blue highlights on the right hand side but if that's what it looked like then no bother. 

Phone pic is also pretty impressive for a night pic

The blue highlights are totally blown out.  It was on a 50 iso slide film (Velvia). It has pretty much no dynamic range.

 

This is a different film (Fuji Pro 400 H) which is much better for longer exposures at night.

I quite like it apart from the glowing blue light at the bottom. I can’t crop it out without losing lots of image. It’s funny how it looks like I’ve added a cheap “Matrix” filter.

Another Velvia. It's took me ages to sort out the scan to get anything usable from it as it was so underexposed in the dark areas.

 

 

 

And cropped a bit tighter.

 

I had no tripod, it was dark and the film was 50 iso. It's probably a bit blurry.

How are you scanning the negs?

One I took outside a skatepark recently with my Bronica ETRSi.

 

All the sneakers used to be hung from a tree, but it's gone now so they hang from these railings instead.

I’ve been using an Epson V550, which is fine for negatives but a pain in the arse for slide film. For some of the Velvia 50s I’ve been doing multiple scans then layering them in PS to get more detail from the dark areas without them getting overwhelmed by noise. 
 

When I can afford it, I’ll get a better scanner.

They look great - really sharp.

 

I've got a V550 too that I use for 120 film, and a Plustek 8100 that I use for 135  which gives really nice results. I'd like a Plustek 120 scanner but they cost an arm and a leg.

 

I agree that trying to get colours that look right is a complete faff. Even when I get something that looks good I end up doubting it later.

 

I've a hankering to shoot some large format 4x5 film at some point, but that would require a scanner upgrade as well as all the other gear. It's an expensive endeavour this photography lark!

I’ve only been using the Rolleiflex. I’d like another medium format camera eventually. I quite enjoy being limited to 12 (or fewer) shots per roll. It makes you think a bit more.

I’ve thought about large format. It’s expensive, but it would be nice to give it a go before they stop producing the stuff!

I did shoot mostly film on the day  but this one is digital. Shot with my Ricoh GRIII. I did use a HP5+ preset that I made in Lightroom though.

Ha. Fooled me! The tones do look like it was shot on film.

A few more film scans. Fuji Pro 400 H and Kodak Tri-x. Negatives converted by eye in PS so probably not consistent with the "real" colours.

I’m losing the enthusiasm to scan film. It takes so long, and it doesn’t seem worth it a lot of the time. Removing the orange mask and sorting out the contrast can be a chore too. I’m reasonably happy with a few though. These are all on 400iso film.
