Gah, I just bought Kirby Canvas Curse again after this trailer. Sold it years ago and always regretted it.

I’m in the mood for Kirby. What’s everbody’s fave game with the pink puffball?

1 - Robobot

2 - Mass Attack (underrated)

3 - Superstar Ultra

4 - Adventure

5 - Crystal Shards

Hyped for a Kirby game, think that's a first for me. Switch could end up with the definitive/best installments of all their franchises.

Mario platforming ✔

Zelda ✔

Animal Crossing ✔

Smash Bros ✔

Mario Kart ✔

Splatoon ✔

Kirby 🤞

Metroid Prime 🤞

F-Zero 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Although Mario Tennis/Golf probably already ruined that theory.

There's a surprising amount of systems in this regarding gameplay. Would have been easy to do "Kirby! Now in 3D!" and call it a day after copy abilities got added in.

But now we have mouthfull mode and evolved copy abilities. Feels like this is a bigger game then expected.

That's maybe overselling it. As said, the OP power has become a staple these days and evolved copy abilities are still nowhere near the breadth and depth of the Fun Pak implementation. Don't get me wrong, I love me some new Kirby, but it seems to be in its own type of Sonic Cycle, whereby each morsel of extra info they show, the game becomes even more similar to its predecessors, to the point that its initial hook upon unveiling feels like a distant memory.

And then the soundtrack kicks in and it doesn't matter.

I haven’t played the newer ones extensively, so I’d probably go Super Star (Fun Pak), Adventure, Dreamland. :)

Never really been into Kirby, it always felt a bit too simplistic for my liking and I lose interest pretty early on. This looks fabulous though, and the level design could be straight out of a top-tier 3D Mario. Definitely on my radar.

I played the first 2 levels of this (EDIT: the demo on the eShop) at lunchtime. To describe the difficulty level as 'my first 3D platformer' would be exaggerating how hard it is, if anything! The game starts off insultingly easy, even in 'Wild Mode'. But it is fun and charming. What weirded me out actually, was how the cutscenes have no sound FX in them at all, just music. Very bizarre. I guess whether I end up buying this will depend on whether the reviews say it gets more challenging as it goes (a la Mario), with some imaginative levels on show. Sure, I was having fun and it's very pleasant to play indeed, but as a platformer it's very very basic. Maybe the third level will be a bit harder! I can see this first world being very much a lead-in for new players, though, so while my post probably reads negatively, I'm only basing it on what I've played so far and it may well not be representative of the rest of the game. The new abilities are fun! Mouthful mode is very charming indeed, even if it's very prescribed as to when those bits start and stop.

So I wouldn't describe myself as wowed, exactly, but there's potential for it to be a decent game if the difficulty curve is pitched right and there are a bunch of imaginative levels ahead. There is certainly also the possibilty that it will end up being far too easy to be a compelling platformer for Odyssey fans. I'm still hopeful, and it's certainly a culture shock after playing Elden Ring for the past week!
