That’s what I’m doing, my son has had this on PS4 for years, it’s been sitting on the shelf but for some reason I never got round to it. Anyhow there’s no excuse now, PS Plus Digital version on PS5. It’s still a good looking game, although showing it’s age a bit here and there in both graphics and gameplay, so I hope Ragnarok offers a bit more freedom as LOU2 did over LOU. I haven’t watched any of the preview videos etc. yet.

Sounds like the first. Someone mentioned that GoW 2018 was a fantastic eight hour game that lasted 25 and I'd be inclined to agree. Some of it was pretty awesome, but a lot of it just felt like filler. 

 

Never did finish my Give Me God of War playthrough. Got about halfway through it before being distracted, and now I doubt I'll ever be able to pick it back up and jump back in.

I finished GOW 2018 the other week for the first time. Thought it was a pretty weird game, in that I’d been mainlining the story for 20hrs+ but, just as it started to pick up pace and get going, it suddenly ended out of nowhere. Story wasn’t exactly riveting either and felt like a total non-event by the end. There was still loads of stuff left to do in the world, with seemingly whole areas I’d never even been to but, it all felt pretty pointless having completed the main narrative. It almost felt like a linear game, shoehorned into an open world, just because open world games are popular.

 

Thought it was good and enjoyed it but, nowhere near as good as it’s made out to be. Certainly not on a par with other action games like Ninja Gaiden, Bayo, DMC or the new King and greatest of all time - Returnal.
 

This definitely seems to be more of the same, only even bigger and with more focus on the story and characters. Not a bad thing at all really. Everything Sony have released so far this gen has been incredible and the top of each game’s respective genre, so yeah, that’s something to factor in. If this ends up having the same level of improvement as Horizon FW from Horizon ZD then it could be something special.

I never really completed the orghinaly. The busy work of upgrading axe, sheield blah blah blah I just got lost with and I didn't really care much for the button mashing combos.   Would have been good as a shorter game.  I'll probably go back to the orginal and give it another shot since so many seem to say it's great.  The latest one I'll probably wait a year or so past launch to pick up.  Not excited enough to pick it up launch week.

I’m there day one for this, yeah the first one could get a bit samey and is perhaps overlong, but the combat is so good and there are some amazing set pieces. I’m sure this will deliver on all fronts.

On the one hand, yeah, but on the other it’s nice to have 60fps and 120fps modes to play with.

They can still do that, I suppose. Having read the DF article, I'll be sticking with performance. Absolute rock solid 60fps, with the dynamic resolution going no lower  than 1440p  - which even on my 65" tv is perfectly fine (I play most of my PC games at 1440p and they look glorious).

 

Looking forward to this now.

So it was tough to have any interest in the reboot. But I took a chance on it in the end and I thought it was one of the best AAA action games I've played. Completely different and well worth it.

 

I'd recommend picking it up for the budget price it currently goes for, then you'll know if you're on board for the sequel.

 

Oh, I didn't know that there was a reboot. Been reading about it - GoW 2018 sounds like a real game! Proper third person camera, RPG elements and Norse gods. Need to pick it up :)

I’m going going to try 40fps for those max shinies, no doubt I’ll settle on 60 in the end though. High frame rate with VRR sounds good too.

I platinumed the 2018 GoW so I'm really looking forward to this one.

 

Email from Shopto telling me that my order is in their warehouse so the hype train is getting ready to leave the station.

 

My local GAME are doing a midnight launch! I didn't think they were still a thing anymore.
