Collectors Edition comes with a Steelbook with a download code inside 😂🥴

The cynic in me would think they do this so people buy a standard version so they can put a disc in it...surely not Sony 🙄 why bother put in a Steelbook at all?

I feel as if I should know this but it’s been a while…is this a full blown sequel or a smaller 1.5 kind of thing?

Its very full blown - I’d say the most interesting bit of info released so far about this is that Santa Monica intend to wrap up this whole story in this game, no forced trilogy nonsense.

The marketing for Ragnarok seems deliberately low-key, but then again it was kind of the same for the 2018 game as well. As far as I remember it really wasn’t very clear what kind of game it was until reviewers got hold of it, which meant the buzz was all the stronger when it turned out to be really good.

There can’t be that same surprise factor with the form and style this time around but I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re hiding the scale of the game - both in the size of the world and of the action and story.

I read the Eurogamer preview which doesn't give anything away but does confirm a lot of what I was hoping for. Chiefly a greater variety of enemies and mini bosses to fight.

I hope the gear is streamlined or enhanced somehow too, I found that aspect of the original a bit of a chore.

4K 40 for me thank you very much. Any game play footage yet where I don’t have to follow links? :)

Is there some way to see way 40fps looks like in a game without having a 120hz TV? The only screen I have that does 120hz is the Macbook I'm typing on now, but obviously YouTube etc only do 30 or 60fps videos. Wondering if anywhere has uploaded gameplay videos at 40fps so I could see how it looks.

I don’t think so. But essentially it’s a lot better than 30fps - far more so than you would think that 10fps would get you. 60fps remains obviously superior, though.

I'm no expert, but it seems the only reason 40fps is acceptable on a 120hz display is because its exactly 1/3rd the refresh.  On a TV that does 50/60hx 40hz would look like any other unlocked framerate, i.e. a bit juddery and/or teary.

Sorry, yeah I get that. What I mean is, I might be in the market for a 120hz screen, but one of the main selling points would be being able to make use of 40fps modes. But I've no idea if I'd find 40fps to be acceptable as I've never experienced it, and don't know how I would without going to a TV shop with my PS5 under my arm.

Has anyone posted this for you? It may help :)

Yeah I watched that with interest back at the time, I just really want to see it in action for myself! Everyone has their own threshold for frame rates and mine is now definitely above 30, but I’m not sure about 40.

I ran it briefly with Horizon Forbidden West. It's certainly better, but - for me at least - it's still choppy enough that I'd always go for sacrificing a bit of resolution for that extra smoothness 60fps provides.

It seems like it might become the best option as the generation wears on. I just saw on the latest DF podcast that Plague Tale Requiem maxes out at 40fps.

It's partly the reason I've finally released myself from the shackles of console ownership for a while.

Which is what I tell myself whilst looking at an empty wallet, whilst warming myself in the gentle hum of my PC.

I was the same with Forbidden West. Switching between 60 and 40, no way was I picking to play at 40.

In Plague Tale Requiem, without the option of 60, 40 looks perfectly fine and I’m thoroughly enjoying my play through.

Guess because I’m not seeing the immediate comparison between 60 and 40 I can live with 40.

I’m positive I’ll be playing Ragnarok at 120, though. 😁
