If every game-specific thread was a pure love-in, how would people make the decision whether to buy or not? People taking the time to describe why they don’t like a game is a useful service and part of what makes this forum valuable.

Those kind of considered posts are different things to what I was commenting on.

I've got to be honest, the rage-posting itt is really annoying. It's not even about the game anymore, it's just insulting members and doing it publicly so everyone has to read that nonsense. It's just off topic drivel.

The thing is, even if you're not fully clicking with something there's parts that do click and sometimes you just want to see something through (especially if you enjoyed the first game a lot). I didn't click with the story but I clicked with the Berserkers and talked a lot about that. But I just think the main campaign is a big letdown.

Sure, but some of us aren’t that interested I feel…and there’s often a thread take-over of blog style complaint dumping that’s not only a vibe killer but also feels pushy.

A game like this, I am going to absolutely play and make up my own mind, and I shouldn’t really care about the opinions in contrast to mine, but it’s hard not to challenge them. In a case like this, I’d normally put the thread on ignore, which is a function I see you can get back with a theme change…

I do like the run up chat to a games release, or the highlighted “hidden gems” that I might have missed.

Then add the bloggers on ignore? I won't be offended.

There's challenging opinions and then there's just rage-posting at people, I know which I find personally annoying

GNA down yesterday at last, I did think the wife may be filing for divorce in 2023 after the language that came out of my mouth during the last few days whilst trying to beat her. Managed it with literally a sliver of health left and it did bring home how rubber-banded the bosses are, I can take huge amounts of her health when starting the battle but then the last two bars take an age.

Now all I have to is finish off the challenges and the final Berserker boss. Might leave that until she's back at work if I want to stay married though.

The distain for posters disliking a game you like and pleading with them to stop shitting on your new love is hilarious.

For the future I guess anyone playing a game and daring to make any criticism of it must specify if they are enjoying and elements alongside their complaints to avoid the ire of the card carrying super fans, or that they are simply hate playing it to fuck with said fragile fans.

It's not distain for anyone disliking a game at all. If you dislike something and articulate it well and put out well formed opinions on why, thats fine. Its more when you go into a thread and are talked down on for liking something and made to feel stupid for liking it. It happens in TV/Film all the time, people who aggressively hate on something always feel the need to return to the thread if it's boosted to tell the new posters the film they like is shit and they're idiots for liking it.

As described above, it's a massive vibe killer and makes me think twice about posting my opinion. Sometimes I've just not bothered because I know follow up posts will just be people being dicks.

People can disagree with my opinions all they want, but trying to belittle me for it is just nasty and adds nothing to the conversation.

If rollmuckers aren’t hate-fucking a 60-hour long game purely to write up an armchair Barry Norman post on why it’s the absolute worst, they’re travelling to the cinema to pay for then sit down and watch something as entirely predictable-as-to-what-you’re-getting as Avatar 2, only to walk out after 20 minutes in disgust that it was exactly the film it was always going to be.

Bonus points for complaining about a game costing £70 then buying said game for £70 so you can complain it’s £70.

It’s fucking miles worse than the first game in so many respects though.

It’s actually like going to the cinema to see The Road and then watching a grab bag of forgettable superheroes team up to fight Toby from The West Wing.

Finished it last night, fucking bland as anything MCU tosh ending.

Mate I get followed around the forum by people having a pop simply because I dare to dislike some Nintendo games. I don't feel I can post because of it.

It's always the same people shitting on the same games multiple times across multiple threads. It's tedious.

It’s really, really absolutely not and I’ve found the whole thing to be far better than the original in almost every regard.

Good to see that even after finishing it you seem to have gotten almost nothing out of it, so I absolutely do not envy you.

I feel the same. I do think the first is slightly tighter and less flabby in places but overall this was suitably epic and the central story arc between Kratos and Atreus was wonderful. So well performed from both parties too.

I am about 6 hours in, and to be honest it seems exactly the same as the first so far. That’s not a bad thing, I am finding it terrific fun. It’s not the most innovative game in the world - highly linear and very videogamey (why are there huge chests everywhere, symbols on walls telling you to jump, etc). But the combat is still outstanding and the Norse setting again very well realised. Moment to moment it’s just very enjoyable to play so far.

You’re pretty much on the money with this, it’s very similar to the original only every aspect is pumped up. The tone is different with a wider, world-building focus that gives it its own flavour. It’s more “fun” in general than the previous, and generous with its content.

The first one delivers a crushing denouement through 4 people, hammering home the themes of parental bonds and  protection vs overprotection. This one ends with about about 40 people jabbering the convoluted plot at each other incoherently in a collective wearisome MCU voice. I really despise what Endgame has done to writers.

Spoiler

I can’t believe the best beat they could come up with was killing off Brok. 😂 “Oh no, anyway“…

That’s me done, I’ll see you back here for “Boy of war: now it’s No Way Home” in 2025

On your way out it also would have been nice if you didn’t fucking spoil half the ending for all the others still playing the game.

Nathan, Kratos, Sackboy and Joel coming together in a third person action adventure featuring all their least relevant adversaries and Richard Schiff^.

^ I assume there are bad guys in Uncharted, but I couldn’t name any of them.

Personally I'd rather read five posts about how someone doesn't like a game than a page of boring as fuck meta-commentary hand-wringing about someone posting five times that they don't like a game.

Done it, finally got the Platinum after missing one collectible and finally fully upgrading a set of armour. I needed a guide for the missing collectible but have thoroughly enjoyed my time with this game and feel bereft it's all done. Yes it had moments of complete cheating from some of the bosses but the journey was superb and hopefully there will be some good DLC in the near future.

You could do the same and have a thread of people wanking over the game too!   Everyone's happy.

As a neutral (yet to buy the game) it's a bit of flavour to the thread.   It's boring being told by the same 10 people how amazing the game is.

I'll still ultimately make my own mind up on it at some point but having varied viewpoints is good. Even ones where people say it's an absolute dissapointment to them.

What?  I'm about 70% through the first game.  Good to know if the second is bettter/same worse in the forums opinion.

if, after the buffet that is the first (and completing the valkyries), you feel like more of the same, you can always play Raganok.

I’d probably wait a while and play something inbetween though. There’s a reason that one of the unfair criticisms is that it’s like a big DLC pack.

first game?

Of the new play type. I didn’t really like the originals.  I think an Edge review mentioning misogyny in an early scene kind of put me off and I never really gave them a chance then on in. Played one years after the hype and got annoyed with the combat combos. Felt very repetitive.  New version is just about keeping my interest and is super pretty.

Isn’t the irony here that you’re utterly incapable of ignoring posts that don’t like the thing you like?
