Yeah, for 20 minutes. I think that's the main issue, it's such a long fight and you have to be 100% focused the entire time. Maybe I need a coffee.

I knocked her down to easy in the end - you still get the trophy. I could have done her on normal, but I couldn't be arsed with learning all her moves, and by that point I just wanted the platinum.

Ooh, I didn't think to try dropping the difficulty. I'm definitely going to do that then because life is just too short. I wanted the platinum too, but I still need to do more challenges in Muspelheim and sort those rifts out in Nilfheim.

I wonder if Ragnarok is going to add the missing realms? I can't imagine they're going to have the same Nine Lakes rotating bridge mechanism to traverse them though, just because reusing such a huge area might seem cheap, but who knows, maybe they can cut out the surrounding lake.

I hated all those Valkyrie fights. Long, boring wars of attrition. That video illustrates perfectly how it robs all the lovely combat animation and FX of any real power as that fucking health bar just drips off in microscopic chunks.

I would love to replay it on easy but want a higher frame rate experience.

I thought the first game was incredible and I stuck with it all the way to the platinum. I don't even remember much frustration with the Valkyries - either I've blocked it out or it's just that From have conditioned me to such things by now.

I was very slightly disappointed by the trailer just because it looked so much like more of the same. By the time it eventually arrives, I'll probably be more than happy with that, as long as I don't go replaying the original or anything, but I might have hoped for a bit more in the way of hints that it has evolved a bit, rather than looking like being simply the next chunk of story told with the exact same set of mechanics, navigated by boat across another hub lake.

Article has a bit more info.

Oh I thought it got a 60fps patch? Was going to replay it soon myself so I hope so.

Yeah the framerate dips now and then on PS4 Pro but it held well enough for me to prefer it over the locked 30fps option.

The Valkyrie Queen battle doesn't last anywhere near as long as that no-hit video; they deliberately equipped low-level gear for it. It probably takes about 3 or 4 minutes normally, which is still long but not too bad.

The Valkyrie battles and the Muspelheim challenges were probably my highlight of the game; challenging and mostly free from cinematics interruptions which soured some of the main story's bosses for me.

After reading posters above fat shaming, I thought I'll share this.

Saw the GoW Thor and loved it, then I saw the bitching and my first thought was this response from Jean Francois Caron when asked why people in the World's Strongest Men comps didn't have abs.

I hugely disliked how Kratos treated his son. What an utter bunch muncher. It put me off, and that first big fight that last ages was tiresome.

The best bit of the game is the axe that you can call back. Aside from that it felt less flowing than the PS1 games.

I think it's a fantastic trailer (It has pushed me into replaying the original on PS4 and I am loving it again). It's a testament to how sublime the first looks that people are claiming this looks the same, it's subtle but there's more detail in all the materials for me. A PS4 version probably means it will be less expansive than it could be but unsurprising they are reluctant to abandon such a massive player base and their cash.

2.

Also, yeah. That's the idea behind Kratos. He is terrible.

I couldn't continue with it. I'm surprised people did. Would it be acceptable if he'd beat on the kid too? Or is the mental trauma just about acceptable to get away with.

I played on in the hope their relationship would deepen and he would soften over time (he shows signs of more tenderness early on when he reaches out to comfort Atreus but resists). I found him a very convincing evolution of the horrid sneery, rapey cunt of a character from the original series. He is very stern and still dislikable in plenty of moments but it worked for me in the context of the story and how it develops.

See, I honestly don't get this. This is a story highlighting the problem/conflict of parenthood and making it clear that what Kratos is doing to his son is bad. Throughout the game you are basically yelling at the screen for the dickhead to become an actual dad and you can see the conflict similarly in Kratos as he struggles with A. wanting to be just that while B. keeping his son from becoming a similar dickhead just like him. This is "a good thing". It adds depth to the character, it humanizes him.

I don't get how people tend to skip this presentation aspect and point at the game for being "the bad thing" in itself. No, it's not. It's presenting the issues in a story. This is what stories do. This is storytelling. It tells you about the taboo and makes it clear what's wrong with it. Instead, people will gladly kill the messenger and say they are the problem. (Not just an issue with this game BTW, every piece of media seems to suffer from a "messenger murder spree" these days.)

I'd say play this game especially if you dislike that aspect of Kratos. It's not a divine redemption arc, but it does present a form of hope.

The difference is if I watch a movie I'm done within 2 hours. Google tells me the main story is completed on average in around 21 hours. That's about a season of Jack Bauer popping eye balls, but always trying to save the family/planet/something.

This is a constant tirade of awfulness. Furthermore I'm controlling this character, it's not like passive media.

21 hours!

Imagine a manager hazing his staff over an entire week of work. Come Friday afternoon - "Hey it wasn't meant like that guys! I was proving a point! Pizza?"

The idea of awful people as protagonists is to give them some kind of redeemable feature. Something tiny. Just a seed that something they could become or do under the scars and dirt. Kratos is like Trevor from GTA V, he's just a cunt. A massive,  massive cunt. Yes he's the God Of War but still.

I played the PS4 one for about a couple of hours and while he's not the complete twat that he is in the PS2 games I couldn't bring myself to care about him or his journey or his relationship with his son.

Saying that I bought a US code for a fiver from CDKeys ages ago so it's sat on my HDD waiting to be played. I'll give it another go at some point and see if I can stick with it.
