I'm currently having a timetrial back and forth with a friend and he has set a time I just cannot beat (1:56.592) License S-2 time attach with the F50. Does anyone have any advice on getting better? I can't seem to be able to download a ghost, or find any useful videos on learning a better racing line or anything. Maybe I'm just shit. 😭

Are you on a wheel or pad? Any assists on and manual or auto gears?

 

Once answered then some advice can be dished out - there is lots of time lost just using auto gears and high TC for instance. Can you upload a vid of your best time, we can get the resident aliens to point out things like braking points and lines etc.

Worth pointing out that the Gold time for that challenge is 2:02 and no one on my friends list has a time faster than 1:58* (and I know some fast people) so 1:56 is not trivial. It's also in a car that can easily get to 200mph and doesn't have any brakes, so you have to start slowing for each chicane approximately last week. 

 

 

 

* Admittedly being a licence test, most people probably got any Gold time and moved on rather than honing it down, but still.

Yeah, I know its faster than needed. Its more about the general fact I can't seem to get faster, the time-trial choice itself isn't that important.

 

I'm using the Thrustmaster T300 (GT) with manual gears, traction control on 1 and weak ABS. I'm not sure whether its my line, or the fact I'm not trail braking enough, or what. I'll try and sort a video later for you guys.

Personally I found getting rid of the braking guide thing made me faster - seems odd but it’s distracting and it’s better to find something trackside to use as braking marker. Similar for TC, I ran 1 for a long time and people on here said 0 was faster and initially I wasnt convinced but after getting used to it I was faster due to better throttle control. With ABS I think auto is best setting.

 

I dont really know the car but in general I think you could be a gear higher at times, use the down shifts for rotation but made exit in a higher gear as it seems to be the GT7 way - attack the track limits a bit on the chicanes and the last corner I think you could be on the power and using more of the outside as seems to be the faster line.

 

Bare in mind Im not exactly fast and dont really know the car / track combo, tempted to have a go and see where I am as like most just did the gold time and left it!

Nice lap @Tomdominer.  Much like Shimmy, I was all up for offering up my sage words of advice, then went to have a look and saw you're about 5s quicker than me and 2 seconds faster than anybody on my friends list (and one of them once beat Lewis Hamilton at a GT event, doncherknow :D)

 

The jury is out on TC - for raw pace over one lap I think it's probably faster to switch it off.  Some people have it on for races for a bit of a safety net at the expense of control out of the corners.  Very much driver / car / track dependent though.

 

I didn't even know that kind of braking marker existed!  I was so shocked to find my trusty cone markers didn't make it into GT7 I just turned them all off in a strop and learnt track-side markers instead (which is handy if you end up jumping between games too).

 

Mandatory forum plug - add some of us (see the first post) and came and join in with the TT challenges (Gr3 at Nurburging GP at the moment).  Not least because it would be good to give @mexos a bloody nose now and again :D

ha so I had a quick go at that license test time trial at lunch. 

 

Quite fun to quantify how much the games physics have changed since launch, I went 5.5 seconds faster. Think that put me at about a 1:56.6xx? 

 

That's pretty mad how much it's changed. They actually need to patch and potentially wipe all the license test times it's so different. That'd be fun actually.

I think the truth is that nobody else is really trying to get a good lap on this license test. 😅

 

Trying without TC at the moment. Wow, the tyres really give out at the slightest hint of too much throttle.

After Varnsen’s comments I had a go too, on a pad, TC off but with those braking markers on. I went about 4 seconds faster, so there’s definitely time to be had.

 

The braking markers are a good starter for 10. You can brake deeper into the chicanes (hammer the down shift for extra engine braking - it’s not a real Ferrari, the engine won’t blow up :)). I found braking slightly before the other markers was faster as it lets you get round the corner and back on the power earlier, especially coming out of Lesmo 2.

 

As Shimmy says, aim for a gear higher than you used in your video in most of the corners,  especially with TC off, for better traction and less time waiting for the gear change.

 

Finally, I think you can run wider and with a bit more speed through parabolica. Just make sure you’re back on the circuit proper by the time the rumble strip runs out as getting disqualified there when you’re about a second up on your ghost is really annoying! ;)

ah there's no video, sorry. I think there's at least 1 to 1.5 seconds more to find for me, if I do a good lap, I'll post it. 

 

I'd defo run TC off for this one but you can't floor it in 2nd gear unless you're absolutely straight. 3rd gear is pretty good. 

 

I think you need to turn off that braking indicator personally. It's too distracting. You gotta be figuring out yourself where to brake so you can decide if you could brake later or softer or in some cases, earlier than the game thinks. GT7 gives you a lot of laptime if you get on the power early enough. 

 

Oh and abuse track limits more. 

 

and get Mexos to post a vid with a 53:0xx.

Here is my best lap so far on the S-2 License: 1:56.331.

 

 

I really have hit a physical limit now (that last minor skid aside). I took the advise about hammering down the gears more, as well as trying to keep it in a higher gear for most corners. I couldn't really make it 3 gear stick for both hairpins, and found more control with 2nd on the late double chicane.

 

Where else do you think I can make time?

Looks good to me. You probably lost at least a tenth with that slide out of the last corner.

Well you smashed the time you couldn’t beat and it looks pretty bloody good to me - If its small gains you’re looking for I think you could go a little harder out of Lesmo 2 and the slide does cost you a bit at the end but we are talking things that I can see in every corner I take and seem incapable of actually doing!

 

Seems a very decent lap, what your TT time for the current one!?

It IS a good lap but the physics change has noticeable made that TT out of date to the extent they should have wiped peoples times imo. 
 

low 56 is great. Must be a top 3% lap time I would have thought.

True. I probably shouldn’t be casually beating a gold time by 4 seconds after half an hour of pad peddling.

 

I still can’t do S-10, however :D
