Is this gonna run at 4k 60 on PS5? Has this been mentioned? Idgaf how clouds are formed tbh

Runs 4K 60 ps5

1800p 60 on PS4 pro

1080p 60 on PS4

I expect there will be a lot more dynamic resolution stuff on the last gen machines.

RTX is PS5 only, reserved for replays and photo mode rather than gameplay.

Just rewatched the online section and the track moisture indicator was there on the HUD but the footage was of 2 totally dry daily races and it stayed at 0 so no idea. Graphics looked nice but no idea if sky or weather or track was dynamic as the clips were only a few seconds each of Trial Mountain and Interlagos

Looks good overall, especially the dynamic weather system. The idea it can be wet at one part of a large circuit, and dry at another part is a nice touch that I don’t think many racing games simulate.

I would have liked them to mention 2 things though. Firstly, has the AI been improved? If it hasn’t, it will make a lot of the single player stuff rather dull if there’s no interesting competition from the AI.

Secondly, can I spin the external camera 360degrees around my car whilst driving? 😂 This has been a strange ommision from GT games and I’ve never known why…

Is that right? I could see raytraced reflections on the cars during gameplay. Maybe there's no proper reflections of other cars? Disappointing if that's right.

EDIT:

https://www.psu.com/news/gran-turismo-7-reportedly-has-ray-tracing-mode-for-actual-races-not-just-replays/

This suggests a performance mode and a higher fidelity mode...which couldn't target 60fps...

There’s that Jalopnik article and a similar on on GTPlanet. Sounds like select journos got to see the State of Play in advance and Kaz did a bit more Q&A. Both say Ray tracing only in replays.
Also only tracks that host 24hr races like Nurburgring, Daytona, Le Mans etc have night cycle.
I’m 99% convinced online will be non dynamic.

Really enjoyed the chill, confident tone of that State of Play and quite looking forward to just sinking into this.

Can’t help but think it would do gangbusters on PC when watching the level of simulation, especially stuff like the photo mode. They shouldn’t drag their feet releasing it on there.

The new footage looks amazing, sure the handling will be very accurate too but it's still got the same issue for me that Forza has in that it's not doing anything really different to the first iterations of the games.

It'll sell by the bucketload of course too.

Is it really possible, or even necessary I guess, to have a new take on this higher end of driving sims - or are graphics and physics enough for the core buying public ?

You ask for doing anything different to the first iterations, Kaz gives you music rally, what more do you want! :hat:

On the physics model, there are some fundamental flaws in GT Sport that can be fixed, perhaps, with a better physics model.  The way they modelled wet track for example was completely wrong.  No way a racing car on racing wet tyres should spin at <60mph, low revs and almost going in a straight line for example, and the way they treat some car and kerb combos was also off.  Sure, these probably could have been tweaked, but I hope the dynamic weather stuff has improved the model.

Those 2 particularly stand out to me as someone who has put a LOT of time into GTS, but I'd imagine they'd stand out to the regular folk who won't hammer 600 hours into it in a year too as the car would feel unrealistic, or too difficult, but only sometimes.

Does physics and simulation need to keep improving across the board?  I actually don't really know.  I guess how you feel the physics interacting with you as the driver is the real important bit, for the immersion more so than the reality.  If you just want to get in a racing game and go fast, it may help with your perception of what will happen when you do X, Y and Z with the car too, but then, at least in theory, putting the time into any sim will teach you to react to what it does and know when it will do it..

Meh. this is sounding more and more disappointing.

Yup. If the dynamic weather isn't in for Sport mode then this is the definition of meh. The fact that there is ambiguity suggests to me that it is so. Otherwise they could have put this one to bed.

Without dynamic weather in Sport mode this is little more to me than some expensive DLC - 3 tracks, a lick of paint and maybe some physics updates that improve the driving model. Almost all of the features added I have zero interest in. Very few new cars, lots of copy and paste from GT Sport.

I don't want to do the campaign grind, I've done it to death across all the other GT games. The "AI" in GT Sport is terrible to the point of it hardly existing. Racing against the AI is not a challenge in any way - cars are just obstacles to avoid in a race against the clock / lap timer till the race ends. If the single player racing is like then what is the point. I don't recall them talking about AI at all in the vid?

I am keeping my fingers crossed that weather will be in and there are plenty of improvements to online that they just didn't mention.  They have done great things with Sport - it has so much potential. I don't want to believe they are just giving up on that side of the game.

And then there is Music Rally which is just an epic troll. Either that or Kaz is on crack.

I’m a little concerned that this is just GT6/Sport with a bit of a facelift and that I’ll bounce off it the same way I did with FH5. GT7 will be all about the SP for me so I hope it has a decent campaign although I expect I’ll still put in a silly number of laps round Brands Hatch comparing different cars and maybe I’ll venture back into Sport mode.

I’m also intrigued by the GT Cafe, hoping it’s a chilled way to play the game and find out about the history of the cars etc.

Indeed same concerns here... Looks to have lots of improvements but not sure how much is just cosmetic fluff. Noticed the campaign started with "Sunday Cup" which made me smile and feel a bit wary at the same time - familiarity was nice but felt like it might be more of the same. Suppose in the end its a racing game, cars & tracks only the fidelity of the graphics and simulation are pretty much where most of the changes will be.

GT Café looks interesting - liked all the museum stuff in GT:Sport so glad they are extending this.

Just hope they bring a demo out for a quick try (which I'm guessing they won't due to time constraints). I bounced off FH5 quickly but that was on GP. This is £70.

See I think it sounds really good, but a lack of ability to share tuning setups online is just such a shame. It takes me out of being able to compete online because I just don't care about that shit but want the best setup possible. Forza solved this years ago and there seems no reason why GT can't do the same outside of the fact these games are always mad limited in bizarre ways.

But the key bits I was looking forward to; the single player campaign, the Dualsense, DEM GRAPHIKS, all sound fantastic.

Ugh. GT gonna GT I guess.

🤨

I'm more hyped after that State of play than before. Love how the elegance and classiness GT has always been aiming for is coming to the fore more than ever before.

Sorry, I don't wanna kill anyones buzz. What I'm looking for in the game is almost completely about the multiplayer racing part of it aka GT Sport 2 is what Mexos and I are really after.

Also I'm disappointed about no RTX in gameplay. Had the PS5 for a year and only Ratchet and Clank has given me the whole 'oooh' next gen shineys. Tbf it looks good in gameplay but I guess i had unreasonable expectations for what they could achieve on the hardware at 60fps 4k. (Personally, 4k isn't important for me but I know for some folks it is).

Also, 400 cars is a lot but I hope there's some more recent cars in it? I saw all the usual Gr3 suspects in the footage but like no new Aston etc.

In conclusion, will only play it for 500 hrs this year.

worst game ever.

Once you’re consistent you’ll gain a bit more time from a good tune but I guarantee before that you’ll be losing far more time in a race by braking late, running wide etc. than you’ll ever gain back from a tune. I tend to just stick to the simple things like adjusting brake bias, suspensions height/firmness, weight reduction etc, stuff I can apply to every car.

Wise words right here.

That preview made me wish I gave a shit about cars the way Smash Brothers makes me wish I gave a shit about Nintendo characters, or fighting games in general.

In both instances I know the game fundamentally isn’t for me but the insane level of love and obsession poured into it is very beguiling.

You boring fucks. This is the most Gran Turismo Gran Turismo in decades.

That's probably the issue here.  Cross reference the list of us posting here with the Monday night racing thread...

Myself, Varsen, Mexos, Junker, Scoobysi, Marsh are all still hitting GT Sport regularly, some of us for silly amounts of time.

We know it inside out, we know it's faults, and why we keep going back for more, and what we're seeing largely ignores the faults, and doesn't add that much to why we keep going back, basically, cars and tracks.

A huge part of why I play so much of it online, and to be clear, I play absolutely nothing else online, is the competitive nature.  The AI is crap. If I run a 30 minute race against GT Sport 'professional' AI I'd expect to lap the whole field.  If I start 20th / last, I'd expect to be in the lead about half way around the 3rd lap, and that's clean over takes, well, clean when the AI doesn't brake in the middle of a flat out kink!  The prospect of a GT with thousands of hours of single player campaign with crap AI isn't that appealing.

As Varnsen said, we're not really looking for it to be the most Gran Turismo in decades, we're looking for it to be a new GT Sport.

I googled...

GT Sport: "launched with 168 cars and 29 tracks; post-launch game updates have brought the count to 324 cars and 82 track configurations as of December 2019."

They've added a few cars since, but not that many.

The car list looks like GT Sport plus some new stuff, let's say 60 new cars, makes sense, it's easier to use the existing data and improve than make whole new ones.

Tracks is a similar thing. From what we've seen, the track list is GT Sport + 3 tracks, 2 fake and brought back, and Daytona.

The positive here is that GT Sport gained 50% of it's cars post launch, if GT7 gets another 200ish cars, that'll be pretty cool.

The quote above unfortunately talks about track layouts and tracks, so not a great comparison, but we're not gaining much now, hopefully updates bring more.

edit:  I should have done my research better, despite a few websites stating that the original GT had a whopping 275 Premium and 850 Standard cars, it didn't.

Should have been obvious as the premium cars were like the better modelled / newer ones in a later GT I think - thanks @Spacehost for highlighting :)

Been pondering a bit. Decided I'm all in at launch for this. It's been just over 8 years since the last numbered Gran Turismo game (GT6 December 2013!).

Release day is even a Friday...so booked the Friday off. Having a chill weekend. Friday 4th March is officially Gran Turismo day in the house! :) Seems a long time since I've had a self indulgent gaming day at a games launch so going to relish this. Everything about this looks exquisite from the museum to the car café weather... ray tracing... nobody seems to have the insane attention to detail regarding cars as Kazunori Yamauchi does. Car p0rn at its finest. I might actually join in some online gaming this time if I get half decent at it. :D

Nice to have something to look forward too! Lets face it its not often we get a new Gran Turismo release!

I’ll be in too, it’s one of the main reasons I have a PS5 so not going to miss it. There’s always something to do in a GT game and a full on traditional GT plus Sport mode will be a great game. The graphics look amazing and the DualSense should be great when chilling on the couch. I just hope there’s something to make it feel a bit fresh which to be honest most racing games are missing, Wreckfest being a recent exception I can think of.
