Just had a quick look at the arcade mode. Seems the selection of cars you can use on this is not what you have acquired? None of the cars I've won/bought are in there so guessing arcade is just a pre-selected bunch of cars PD have put in there to use? Sigh.

In GT sport it did that with cars you didn’t need to own, but on the far left ( or right , can’t remember) you could select “garage cars” and it would then let you use one of your own.
I’ve not checked but if you’re right it’s another backwards step.
car roulette in GT Sport you won a car every time! You couldn’t sell them but if you already owned it you could sell the one you’d bought and get some credits back.  If they let you sell cars in GT7 it would feel more like an in game economy and not a push to get you to spend more money

Kaz has spoken a lot of bullshit

Whole text in spoiler, from here: https://www.gran-turismo.com/gb/gt7/news/00_3802725.html

Spoiler

I wanted to explain what happened in this update.

Immediately before the release of the 1.07 update, we discovered an issue where the game would not start properly in some cases on product versions for the PS4 and PS5.

This was a rare issue that was not seen during tests on the development hardware or the QA sessions prior to the release, but in order to prioritize the safety of the save data of the users, we decided to interrupt the release of the 1.07 update, and to make a 1.08 correctional update.

This is the reason for the delay.
My sincere apologies for the late report to everyone.

Also in this update, some event rewards have been adjusted. I wanted to also explain the reasons for it and our plans going forward.

In GT7 I would like to have users enjoy lots of cars and races even without microtransactions.
At the same time the pricing of cars is an important element that conveys their value and rarity, so I do think it’s important for it to be linked with the real world prices.
I want to make GT7 a game in which you can enjoy a variety of cars lots of different ways, and if possible would like to try to avoid a situation where a player must mechanically keep replaying certain events over and over again.

We will in time let you know the update plans for additional content, additional race events and additional features that will constructively resolve this.
It pains me that I can’t explain the details regarding this at this moment, but we plan on continuing to revise GT7 so that as many players as possible can enjoy the game.
We would really appreciate it if everyone could watch over the growth of Gran Turismo 7 from a somewhat longer term point of view.

Kazunori Yamauchi

Summary: Rare issue, turned it off to save players data, Kaz thinks microtransactions are bad too, gouging high credit races was to stop players getting credits by "mechanically keep replaying certain events over and over again" please understand.

Not sure how you're supposed to make 20 million credits since I've completed probably 2/3rds of the content and only have about 2 million..

Well lets see what they do. Thing is there are plenty of options out there today and well if his game becomes tedious he will loose people.

I've earnt the same (around 2m credits so far) and have 6 café cards left to complete. Whole bunch of licenses and missions yet to complete though.

To be fair have a quite a collection of cars from completing the café menu cards so happy with this and generally like the way they have implemented the café menu cards to progress you through the single player game. Sure they will sort things out a bit... guess its a fight with the suits Vs what he wants to do... hey ho.

Originally, I was heading in this direction....

even without them, like you'll enjoy it more with, but without it'll be 50% as good?

Makes sense, add to the realism, we all know an F50 is worth more than an F40 despite the F40 being a better car in almost every way.

so I do think it’s important for it to be linked with the real world prices.

Wait, linked with real world prices, does he mean like... a rare car costs a lot of real world money, so an in game car also costs a lot of real world money.

But.. how does reducing the credit output from races mean people will grind them less?  Or is it ok to grind all of the races (twice as much), just not those particular ones

So just had a quick run down on the Ferraris in brand central. Enzo can only be acquired by invitation only. Got an invitation which has an expiry date (tomorrow). Car is 2.5M credits. Given it took me ~15hours to get 1.5M credits not really ready to play for a long while to get said credits. Of course I could buy some credits to get it. How much in real money? £15.99 for 2M credits then 2 x 250,000 credit packs (at £3.99 each) total is £24.97.  Bargain. And of course the invitation expires tomorrow and who knows when it might re-appear. So I won't be getting an Enzo anytime soon.... complete BS this. You cannot even test drive any of the cars (I remember this being a feature on previous GT's? Might be in here somewhere though and I missed the option).

I mean I don't mind playing a bit to get some cars but this just seems really excessive IMHO. So yes won't be car collecting in this. Rather do that somewhere where its actually fun and less grindy or have the option to buy a car outright if I want to for an amount of money that I feel is acceptable. Which £25 for one car is not.

This is a free to play game constantly pushing micro transaction that they've charged £70 for. A massive pisstake

Indeed. To be fair to PD over the years they have been good with updates and freebies - tracks and cars. However something is changing internally I think. Clearly pressure has been put on the team from elsewhere in Sony. So well screw 'em. I'll spend my money elsewhere. Happy to play though the single player game and acquire cars as I progress through the game however not spending a single penny on credits to buy virtual items in the game.

Hope many people follow suit and they may rethink things. At least I didn't pay the full £70 for this and it cost me around £60. So I'll get some value out of that as the game generally is great - I'll be happy with 30-40 hours of playtime.

If Sony continue down this road TBH it will ultimately be a massive turn off for me. I am most certainly not paying £60-70 a game and having this BS in it. Anyway discussion for another place TBH but MS are going to completely dominate this generation and gaming going forward with GamePass that is all I can say. I am now interested more than ever to see how Forza Motorsport turns out and what their approach is in that.

How on earth does it have a MetaCritic rating of 87% if it's that bad?

The micro-transactions weren't in review copies of the game apparently and what's there underneath all of the bullshit is a fun well thought out celebration of motoring.

it's just a massive open goal for Forza to tap it in from 3 yards away,

The thing is, Forza have had their own flirtations with egregious MTX in their series, got massive blowback off it every time, and nearly always rowed it back.

Interestingly, The most recent iteration of "proper" Forza, (FM7 from 2017) had a built-in loot box mechanic in it that was clearly designed for harvesting real money, but the real-money side was never activated, probably as it launched into a time when loot boxes became a really touchy mainstream topic after a year or so of only really being a gamer topic.

I think the current situation part this has to do with GT probably not having been massively profitable for Sony on its own terms (at least, not in the last 15 years or so). It sells pretty well, but it's not GTA or FIFA numbers. And each one must cost a fortune to make, taking a huge team years to turn one out while Turn 10 were knocking out major iterations every 2 years. In the time between GT4 and GT7, Turn 10 shipped 7 games (and Playground did another 5 Horizon titles using a lot of the same assets).

But - it sells PlayStations. So I think they're trying desperately to turn a loss-leader into somethign actually profitable.

The MTX stuff everyone hates wasn't in the game when the "professional" reviews were done.

Wow, isn't that what Activision did with one of the Crash Racing games? That's sneaky as hell. I wonder if any websites are changing their reviews to reflect that. Probably doesn't matter now.

Can someone tell my confused covid mind what the hell your all talking about?

There are hundreds of cars modelled meticulously in the game. Some of them it gives you for free for progressing through the single-player game. Others you have to buy with virtual currency.

You can either get this virtual currency by playing through the game, and/or you can pay real cash money for it. The exchange rate is eye-watering. For example there is a vintage Jaguar in the game for an amount of credits that would cost £96 if one were going to pay cash money for it.

As someone else said, you could probably complete Skyrim in the time it would take you to grind that much virtual currency through gameplay.

And that’s just one car out of hundreds.

The developer has responded to the initial criticism by releasing a patch that, incredibly, reduces the amount of currency you can acquire through normal gameplay.

Thing is if they cut the cost by 10 so it would cost you £2.50 (even that’s too expensive for 2.5M imo) then people might spur of the moment buy stuff and others would just ignore it and not think about it. I just don’t understand what they’re thinking with these prices, it’s crazy, it’s going to be nothing but bad press and alienate people from the game and potentially the PS5.

I see. That sounds crazy. I just assumed I’d end up with more credits than I knew what to do with if I played it enough.

I actually went back into the game just to check I hadn’t made up/imagined the £96 car.

I had not.

12 million credits. Six packs of 2 million at £16 apiece.

I’m not even ideologically opposed to paying for DLC but like, this kind of thing is just exploitative

Indeed. It's the insane pricing. I mean the example above £96 for a virtual car? One car more than the premium version of the game? Really don't understand this. Worst example of overpriced virtual content I've ever seen. Worse still it's in the game already behind this paywall!

Just to play devil's avocado for a minute, I know exactly the sort of player who would spend that without batting an eyelid, and they wouldn't want to buy the car if it wasn't out of easy purchasing of the average punter. The sort of player who was dropping £5k a month into CSR Racing during the launch period, and it was hard to spend that much.

So while it's absolutely ridiculous in the context of a fantasy car game for most of us to take on the equivalent of a part-time job driving cars on a loop to afford these, I understand why they're doing it.

Yep it's a great game at heart buried beneath micro transactions and a bizarre online multiplayer mode.

I'd never played an online game before GT Sport, racing or otherwise.

I fell in love with it. Trifling around securing 9th was enormous fun. I rarely won but it doesn't matter. I thought GT7 would have an expanded Sport (say, 5 daily races with 2 being tune and 3 as it was)with a fair few new tracks and new cars. Couple that to a single player mode and what can go wrong?

Instead they've in effect locked off a lot of single player and cars unless paying micro transaction after selling it at £70rrp. There's barely any new tracks.

Multiplayer is a mess. I can't just dip in after a day of work. How they did that after 5 years of GT Sport and building up such a fanbase I don't know.

They were great at adding free tracks and cars to GT Sport but I fear they will even charge for that now. Unless a backlash stops it.

Just to add more salt to the wounds, I’ve gone to boot up the game this evening and I’m getting an error:

Tried deleting cache and saved data but nothing’s worked. Currently reinstalling the game, just to re-live that launch day pain…

I believe the servers are boned. But not to worry, I'm sure it'll work perfectly well offline.
