Gran Turismo 7: PSVR2 upgrade confirmed.

GTS is kinda like that, if it is offline you can play arcade mode and stuff but your garage and everything is unavailable as the saves are all stored server-side. I can actually see them doing it that way again.

I think it was supposed to be an anti-hack measure or something? In practice it meant you were unable to back-up your own save, as it would be overwritten by the server save if you restored it. A few people lost their entire garage after a glitch on account of this.

Just speculation atm though, right?

Single Player should mean offline in my book

I hope they sort out install sizes on this one - I've just tried to install GT Sport on my PS5 that has 177GB free space and it told me I don't have enough. Fuck that

I took the 2TB drive out my PS4 (and put 500GB back) so that I could use it as an external drive to get the PS4 games, primarily GTS, off my PS5 SSD. My PS4 is now being dedicated to PSVR.

Remember it's a ps4 game, so you need space to download it and then for the game to do the silly copy / decompress / install thing that al ps4 games need.

Even better when you get an update to "remove in game logos" that takes 25 minutes to install down to this too...

I don't really get why people care if a game is online only? Other than "tradition" or whatever. Like, are you not always online? There may be an issue if servers go down or whatever but assuming that doesn't happen isn't "the internet" a fairly constant thing these days?

I suppose you are correct. Being online only has killed the retro possibilities of such a high percentage of games though.

Not in my house. Been booted out of more lobbies on gt sport than I care to mention. It's nearly as janky as chivalry 2 which is an absolute shambles, I don't venture online much and that's probably why.

Think I'd prefer more of an offline mode if I'm honest.

The problem is not whether or not I'm online.  The problem is that in a few years Sony can and probably will turn the servers off, and the game can no longer be played.  That probably isn't a problem for most players, who will just move onto the next one, but I've played GT2,4 and 5 in the last month, and love going back to old racers.

I have zero interest in replaying old games so needing internet doesn’t bother me.

What does bother me is needing to manually connect. I’ve designed reconnection flows like it at work so I understand why they do it but damn just sort it out.

When I play on a console I don’t want to see any PC type behaviour. Reconnect, copying update files, do you want to update etc etc. I don’t care, I don’t want to think. Yes to everything in advance unless it will cost me money, do what you need to in the background. Just make it work when I come to play a game ffs.

Problem with modern consoles though... they are complex and essentially PCs these days - along with updates etc. Although agree it should be more seemless on consoles... its not has if Sony have a seemingly infinite number of configurations of PS5 hardware to contend with....

Sure, but I don't need to know that. I bought a console to remove the need to deal with all that crap.

Going OT here but... f it!

There is a lot of lazy design and dev in there. And yes there will be a thousand reasons why, some which will be complex and can't be overcome. But a lot of them can be if they actually try. I see this all the time at work.

Take downloading and installing of updates. I give you permission to keep everything up to date. Now go away. Do it all in the background, you have access to my internet and power always. If I ever boot up my console to play and I can't play because an update isn't downloaded and installed you've instantly failed.*  I'm not playing with my console for 99.9% of the time but the one time I do want to and instead of playing I'm sat watching a progress bar for 30 mins. Fail.

*unless it actually got released during or just before I start using it.

To be fair. I leave the PS5 in rest mode and allowed it to download and install updates in rest mode.

Not had a problem so far. Its so transparent the only time I know something has updated is when I get a notification when I'm playing something else! (happened this morning whilst playing Returnal - got an notification message saying that GT:Sport had been updated).

So not sure am I lucky? I think anything that involves networks and connectivity can be hit and miss to be honest from experience. Mostly I guess its the OS software not well designed for a fail condition.

Ironically I guess my PC seems to be rock solid in this respect on Steam. Never have any problems at all on that... :D

This is an annoying one. Ignoring true online gaming where I get that everyone needs the same version of the game it's crazy that a game update can ever stop me playing right now.

Even if the update was released moments before I start the game I don't care. Start my current version of the game (or at least prompt and ask if I want to play now or wait an hour for the update - with the default being to play now and being able to change my mind whilst the download is happening). Let me play.

I had this with Psychonauts 2 which was quick resuming. I mean it's literally in memory, restore it. Yes, download in the background so it's ready to install but it shouldn't actually install at this point because I could lose progress (I did lose a room or two of progress). When I go to resume prompt if I want to install or keep playing.

I just came in here to say 20 player online races as I’d been browsing Twitter. Consensus of opinion is 16 player custom lobbies though. PSN Party size is 16 anyway which is a restriction in itself. Imagine being the 4 people in MNRC who miss my thrilling company car chat, or @marsh and his pineapple rating system?

I read some stuff from that guy who runs the VVV website and he seems to think rather than a PS5 game restricted by PS4, this is a delayed PS4 game they’ve tried to expand for PS5.

Hopefully they drip feed details of new tracks and cars and explain online more. Is the physics model changing? Will online be any different to GTSport? Will all the cars understeer @Corranga? Etc etc

From the PlayStation store/app.

Spec 2 is basically GT Sport with some credits, not available for purchase to those of us who bought the non spec 2 version.

Interestingly, the non spec 2 page says 20, and this is why I don’t trust Sony and their inconsistency lies ;)

Super GT’s video, where he basically repeats stuff that other folk have already said has an interesting couple of shots from the trailer on Tokyo inner loop compared to GT Sport and the buildings in the background look much, much better than in Sport. He also thinks the physics look the same as Sport (which I love the concept of, I wish I could judge a physics model visually!)

He also mentions the HUD so far is identical to Sport. I hope we’ve just seen early builds and that some of this stuff changes, otherwise I might as well have stuck with my PS4 and old plasma with GT Sport HUD burnt into it! 😂

Anyway, Good to at least hear rumours of new tracks, and get a bit of comparison on track improvements, otherwise, with Sport criticised of not much content vs 7 with only 2 confirmed officially new tracks and a bunch of cars…

As for under steer, I can look at the front tyres and a red line appears on the tyre wear gauge.

From the interview I linked above it’s confirmed that time/weather is dynamic and you can set it on a multiplier so for example you can do a “real world” race of 1 hour that in game changes from day to Night and the weather and track changes with it.  Also confirmed it simulates a drying racing line.

Imagine the pure horror @McSpeedwill be able to subject us to now?

Another Kaz interview, guess he was doing the rounds

https://www.gtplanet.net/new-gran-turismo-7-details-ps4-vs-ps5-driving-physics-gt-cafe-and-more-revealed-in-kazunori-yamauchi-interview/

16 player lobby limit - 😑

Improved physics, being worked on by Igor Fraga and Mik Hizal - this is potentially very exciting as they are probably the 2 best GT Sport players. Mik has been quite critical of some aspects of GT Sport so the thought that he might influence not only the physics model, but things like race settings and the penalty system is encouraging.

Pre-order items detailed:

https://blog.playstation.com/2021/09/21/gran-turismo-7-pre-order-items-and-25th-anniversary-edition-detailed/

They appear to be priced (on the PS Store) as

PS4 standard: £59.99

PS5 & PS4 bundle: £69.99

Digital deluxe / 25th Anniversary edition (PS4&PS5): £89.99

Wow the deluxe version £90?

Wonder what difference there is in terms of gameplay and visuals between the PS5 and 4 versions?

Anyhow waiting for more details about this the £70 price point on PS5 games isn't still resonating with me. Hopefully it will enough of an update to justify the cost over the PS4 version. Guess it's almost like Blu-Ray and DVD :) I would hope the PS5 version has lots of upgraded geometry and sound etc. Although I expect it will be the same as flicking a detail button on a PC and Sony charging you £10 for the privilege we'll have to wait and see.

Personally not fussed about preordering. I'd even go as far to say that I'll wait for it to have a price drop and carry on playing sport. Until of course they switch off the servers forcing you onto 7. I'm not skeptical one bit honestly.... ;)

I agree (especially while limited by being cross-gen) but I’ll probably bite with cheap credit making it around £62, although I won’t be preordering. Disk copies will be cheaper still but I gameshare with my son and it’s a game I’d rather have digitally anyway.

Having recently picked up an as new copy of R&C Rift Apart off eBay for under £28 (and will probably be able to do the same for Returnal by the time I get round to that), there’s probably only this and maybe Horizon Forbidden West that I’ll consider buying on release.

I guess at least the ps5 version page confirms you get access to both ps4 and 5 versions for your 70 quid, in fact it reads a little like you're actually buying the ps4 game and the £10 upgrade (the Apple Playstation Store app even lists it as a "Game bundle"

Also, there is a preorder bonus...

image.png.d31036a7fb51b9ab6b1dee2d896e82d6.png

The extra 20 quid for the Digital Deluxe edition basically just gets you 1.5mill credits, a Yaris, and some avatars, so that's a complete player gouge and is worth ignoring.

image.png.d4add2c0c62cd737f8da17553e12cd21.png

I'll be picking up the digital version with some discounted credit that will hopefully come up between now and launch.  I'll probably end up pre-ordering once I have that credit (might as well get the small amount of free digital crap and hopefully a pre-load).  I very much doubt I'll be buying the 90 quid version!
