Keep playing the GT Cafe objectives. You unlock online lobbies at mission 8 I think. If you focus on that, it can be reached in 2-3 hours from the get-go.

No, you need to own the cars you use online, too.

My recommendation at the moment:

- Get all golds on license tests, at least National B and preferably International B, as that'll net you really nice (race) cars.

- Buy the Radical SR3 at 126.000 cr, decent money for an excellent cup racing car.

Thanks for this.

I figured that the Group C etc racing cars would be default and no parts needed but you can still buy bits for them which add hundreds of BHP so I guess you find a car you like before pumping money in to be competitive.

I think we’ll have a better idea of how Sport mode will go in a couple of weeks. In custom lobbies you can still limit to a class or PP (yeah yeah, I said it again @mexos :)) and enable BoP and/or disable tuning. I suspect we’ll quickly get into the old style of a Race A in slower road cars, and Races B and C being BoP’d Gr1-4 cars.

I suspect this week’s races are special because it’s week 1 and they needed to give you half a chance of having legal cars.

Does this have a test drive mode? So car X track y and off you go? Can't seem to find one anywhere other than "Circuit Experience" but then this forces a certain car on you. Perhaps time trial is it. Or custom race?

High Speed Ring.

going over the bridge and you FEEL the expansion gaps, at either end,  through the triggers.

In tokyo south you can feel the paint effect your tyre grip as you come out the docks on a right hand corner.

Just did several licenses and backed out to the map. Went to make a cup of tea and when I came back the map was blank and the GT logo thing was just spinning. Tried a ton of things, including just leaving it for ten minutes but it had crashed. No bother, I obviously completed the licenses, got golds and backed out to the map before it crashed so those are surely saved, right? So I went to the PS5 menu and closed the game. Restarted only to see the several golds hadn't been recorded and I'll have to do them again. This was my second crash too.

Not the end of the world but all this talk of super fast storage I'd have thought your progress for licenses and races would be saved after you exit them and return to the map.

Oh well, early doors bugs are par for everything these days.

This game is sooo good. Been playing with a mix of the wheel and controller. Really like the adaptive triggers they do make the game feel completely different to racers I've played before with a pad! :)

Just started on the Porsche cafe menu and been doing the 'Ring. Whoever said this doesn't feel fast needs to play a bit longer... what an intense experience! Although maybe not as much as Spa in the wet the race before. Very twitchy and really like the way the weather works.. puddles gradually drying out over the course of the race etc. Wow.

How it looks is one thing but how it feels to play is something else!

Totally agree! It looks nice, but it feels fantastic even with the pad.

It’s managed to keep me off Elden Ring too, which speaks volumes. Done the B Licence Tests and despite my internet being shite, I’ve been playing online and it seems to be fine, which is awesome. Only problem is online seems to be full of total fannies that smash you off the track, rear end you, slam their brakes on in front of you on purpose etc. They get penalised but still go onto win races as they’re using ludicrously fast cars. It’s really frustrating.

Not sure if I’ll be able to consistently play online with my connection but up for some time trials if anyone wants to add me. ID is Crich-Stand.

Also, I prefer this to FH5, the structure is better. It’s gradual, doesn’t dump loads of stuff on you early doors.

open world is kind of like driving to a service station on a long trip, and then playing a driving game, in the arcade there.

Different games though for different audiences I guess. Agree 100% though this is how I like driving games to be.

Forza Horizon is fun but I can only play it in small amounts of time before I get tired of looking at all the stuff and winning silly irrelevant things all the time. Lots of distractions too many IMHO to the point of it loosing focus. Really enjoyed the second one but rest have lost me over the years. Think the fourth one is the last I spent any significant amount of time on and that was mainly because it was set it the UK and had a bit of variety with the seasons etc.

Not sure I'll be doing any online racing in GT7 as I'm really enjoying the single player mode and generally find online gaming something you need to put some hours in to improve. May give it a go at some point but last racing game I put any amount of time into was PGR2 way back when it was released and shortly after getting Xbox Live. Loved that but it was a long time ago now. :)

It was the same with GT Sport and I found the best thing to do was to drive defensively, don’t try to win initial races, just try to stay out of trouble and gain a few places, avoiding contact. Once you get your Safety Rating up things will improve massively as you leave the idiots behind.

A question though - I know fuck all about cars, so tuning them and buying upgrades is beyond my level of comprehension. When I played the old GT games (1-3, I never put much time into any others), my strategy was just to buy one of everything that increased my BHP. I'm a little more nuanced now, and understand that I need to buy brake pads and stuff too, but what do I need to keep in mind in how I approach this? Also, should I be looking at actually fiddling with the tuning menu rather than just slapping upgrades on my car, or does this only offer marginal gains and can largely be ignored?

Always do weight reduction first. Power makes you faster at the end of the straight, tyres make you faster round the corners and the start of the straight, weight reduction makes you faster everywhere.

Once you've done that, then look at improving power, suspension and tyres. Don;t overlook the differential upgrades as they can really help tame cars with big power.

brakes can usually wait until late as the limiting factor on how hard you can stop is usually tyres rather than the brakes themselves. Usually in a GT game the benefit of upgraded brakes is more the adjusable balance rather than actually better stopping.

My dad bought me this to cheer me up, I don't currently have PS+ but looking forward to getting driving again.

Aside from graphically, is there any differences between PS4 and ps5?

Loading times is the biggie, but the full game's all there on PS4.  Less than a second to get to the track on PS5, versus 30-40 seconds on PS4.  I could see that getting annoying with the amount of hopping between tracks you do, especially for the license tests early on.

As for graphics... I watched the Digital Foundry PS4 vs PS5 comparison video and honestly, if it had been muted I'd have said they were about identical.  I only noticed the difference when they paused the video, zoomed in, and told me what to look at.  PS4 is 1080p and 60fp, PS5 is 4K 60fps... but I can't tell the difference!

Not really... Time trial is closest, I think - but you do need to own the car you want to drive.  Circuit Experience will let you drive one, pre-selected car on the track.  You need to have got far enough through menus to unlock the track you want to do either.  I still can't do a time trial on Dragon Trail Seaside, for example...

Eh, loading times I can cope with, and I only have a 42 inch non 4k TV. I assume PS4 can play with ps5 online? If so it probably sucks waiting for PS4 players if you have the newer console 😅

Loading times, controller and tweaks to the visuals.

If you've never played the PS5 version you will be fine :) However I expect if you ever get the opportunity to play the PS5 version it will be hard - very hard to go back! :) It will transform the game. Loading times alone never mind the controller feedback and the ray-tracing updates on photos/playbacks.

Yeah, we think so.  In private lobbies, the PS5 players just get the extra time to practice.  In the daily races you're right - you sit and wait for everyone to finish loading.

If you fit a turbo or supercharger to a car. Upgrade the brakes. :D  Noticed we now have a nitrous option too?! 100K through anyone fitted to anything yet? Be great for that long American oval! (https://gran-turismo.fandom.com/wiki/Special_Stage_Route_X

Nearly there unlocking all the tracks! Shame there is no option to drive any car in the game on any track. :( Even just solo not really fusses about racing or owning the cars.

Guess TT it is for now!

FH5 has a structure?

Honestly, I loved the racing in it but actually figuring out what the hell I was supposed to do most of the time was a nightmare. This is much more like it for me. The Cafe menu books really help with the structure as well.

Feel a bit old school liking structure but looking at how kids are these days doing about 10 different things at once I can see why they don't have a problem with FH! :D Also again I'm a bit old school again in that I really like how GT drip feeds all the concepts over to you and (mostly) explains things. Rather than the other approach of "throw everything at you" and then off you go to the internet to work out what it all means and how to use it. Well that was my experience of the past few FH's anyway.

Yep - it's great :D  I put it on the Mitsubishi GTO and it gives it a real kick, but you can use it all up in a lap of Deep Forest, just on the straights.

That’s good to know. I gave up with online last night as it was more like playing Wreckfest than GT. Even had folk driving the opposite way around the track.

When this clicks and everything comes together it’s incredible though. Bought a Honda Civic and just spent some time last night lapping Tokyo Expressway. The feel of the car, the sense of speed, the haptics......absolutely awesome!

Well I'm embarrassed to say I've just completed all of the menu cards 🤣

I was expecting a bit more variation with the cards, like drag races, etc, but I guess they're in Missions?

If anyone's curious I finished with 70 cars and 3.5m credits. (won 1m credits in the last roulette).

Bought 3 cars so far (95k) and spent 1.1m on tuning.
