Gran Turismo 7: PSVR2 upgrade confirmed.

I've had quick play over lunch.  I'm not sure this will be the same for the digital editions but it has a very slow in-game update.  The disc was fully copied over and I checked the game was up to date.  Upon starting the game you set your video and assist settings, it then starts downloading an in-game update.  While it's downloading you have three music rally courses you can play and that's it.  I played for about 40 minutes and it's maybe downloaded somewhere between a 1/4 and a 1/3 of the update.  I've had to leave the game and PS5 on now I've gone back to work so it can hopefully download the rest this afternoon.

Had a quick blast of Music Rally thanks to @Flockheart's heads-up there to get the update installing from in-game :).

Really silly but very good fun. Used the DualSense just to see how all the haptic stuff felt and it was really nice! @marsh is going to love it as our resident Master of Pad Driving.

Oh, and folks - if you do pick the game up and have fun with it, remember that RLLMUK has its own regular Monday Night Racing Club - a whole mix of tracks and cars are used, there's usually a decent amount of competition on the Daily Race leaderboards etc.

Got this downloading to PS5. I love GT, will enjoy a few races in between hammering away at Elden Ring.

See that's how much my head is in GT land at the moment thought that was a new track... :D

A little update, the download took ages and has only just finished.  The PS5 did go into rest mode once when I was in a meeting so was maybe off for about an hour tops.  I'd estimate that, for whatever reason, the in-game update took about 2 and a half hours and my internet connection is normally pretty fast (I've just done a speed test and got 81.50 Mb/s).

Just be prepared for music rally if your first experience is anything like mine!

I hope this in-game update is already baked into the digital preload, for time aspects really, and mostly because of disk space! (shown as taking up 90GB so far)

Had an update earlier so I expect it will be the case. Around 96GB in total at the moment. Main download happened on the 25th Feb.

Picked this up for cheap (comparatively) from the Turkish psn store. Not really sure why, as I usually bounce off serious racing games, but wanted something sparkly and new for PS5. Unlocks in an hour or so :)

Out of interest what was the price difference? Just so we know how much cheaper it was in other stores! :)

Also do you have to mess about with VPNs etc and set up a Turkish PS account?

As above. Came to about £37

...and £46 (869 TL) for the digital deluxe version. Wow. That's a good saving! Not sure it we get ripped off hugely here or no tax is paid on the Turkish store.... Hmmmm.

Just don’t do what I did and forget your password and email to your foreign accounts.

Guess once you have it downloaded though it's playable from your UK account  Happened with me when I had to upgrade a US disk copy of Uncharted Lost Legacy recently to the new collection version.

jesus!

The Digital Deluxe edition is $90/£90

$100 is £73 on CDKeys

What's 90% of £73? £65

(The PS4/PS5 edition is £70)

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!

I've been waiting 10 minutes an hour for the code from CDKeys!

Gran Turismo games have always had horrible trophy lists, full of impossible challenges and endless grinds. This one looks, reasonable? You’re not required to win any online races - there’s nothing I can see that might hide some impossible challenge in it like the GT5 world tour - worst is probably getting gold on all the license tests, but that’s a given. Most grindy is driving the length of the autobahn in online races (possibly buying the three legendary Le Mans cars, depending on the price they sell for).

Just had a quick go on the first Music Rally track. Man, the graphics seem pretty ropey compared to other PS5 stuff. It looks like a PS4 game to the point I  had to check I was downloading the right version. Had a go on the 2nd track and bits are impressive but other bits look well dodgy.

First impressions are that the 3D audio is great and combines with the haptics and resistant triggers  brilliantly, for example when you hit the rumble strips and can feel and hear it on just one side. Hard to explain but it’s cool!  For some reason the car and camera movement on the replays looks really juddery in places though, and there are framerate drops, even though it’s in prioritising frame rate mode.

There’s also LOD pop in and.........get this.........2D ROTATING TREES!!! 😂 What the actual fuck!!! I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen those since the PSone days. The chase cam is a fucking abomination too.. The car seems to be part Scud missile, part hovercraft and part wonky shopping trolley when using it. 😂

The first event is as camp as Christmas, had me bopping my head and tapping my feet, with a big smile on my face. Proper quality! Not sure what’s actually going on, just seems like it’s drive as far as you can by the time the song ends. It’s fun!

So yeah, feels very GT, which I’ve not played since GT3. Looking forward to getting stuck into it, when it finally downloads fully.

Edit - Fucking hell! Try playing the 2nd track with the chase cam view........looks like a little lad pedalling his Wilko’s Go-Kart around Tokyo!!! 😂

This seems excellent so far. Played about an hour this morning before work. Looks fantastic and the haptics work well. Racing is excellent. Overall it’s a nice refinement for the series. No I’m game update for me, I was straight in once I booted it up but I had purchased it digitally.

it’s brilliantly Japanese! 😀

The motion controls using the pad like a steering wheel work really well from what I’ve tried so far. Had no idea you could that!

Can imagine this being absolutely immense racing online with folk or even just doing Time Trials. Really hope the single player stuff holds up. Enjoyed playing the music rally stuff and being back on that 2nd track. Brought back memories of the hi-res 60fps mode back on the original GT!

Just got my arse handed to me in club plus mode with the sirroco.

Feels stunning to play with a wheel and finally nice to see grid starts in the campaign "menu" (pun intended!).

The jazz and neo jazz music is fucking superb.

The rest of it is fine. Graphically stunning and it sounds good too...esp. with upgrades installed.

Omg I don’t want to watch this fucking intro movie!!!

I quit the game and restarted it and it restarted the movie.

fecking hell I just wanted a quick race before work. Absolute shit.

8 fecking minutes

Yeah you have to wait for it to finish, then go into settings (via the GT icon at the top left of the main screen) and then there’s a setting in there for “show opening movie on game start Y/N”.

Wow I didn’t realise it would keep playing even when I had been forced to watch it for 8 minutes on first boot.

Mind blowing.

There is virtually no loading times too!

Had a quick hour or so this morning - just unlocked the license centre.

All very impressive so far! Loved the way the game introduced all the elements and gradually unfolded everything. Something to savour and a welcome change from having a game shouting at you and throwing things at you all the time. Very classy and relaxing. Perfect way to start the journey for me!

Setting up the wheel later and will play with that today. Pad works really well adaptive triggers and haptics add a welcome dimension.

Looking forward to getting stuck in! Absolutely love the cafe idea with the menus. Very slick way of car collecting and a sophisticated way of handling car meetings. :)
