I've switched to a 4-2-3-1 and seem to be winning more than I lose with Oxford United now. This might possibly be the game breaking formation? I have only used it as my staff recommended it but looking online it seems to be the go-to formation. Also my low quality players still seem to be scoring some 30 yard crackers...

I had no intention of doing any business on the final day but when Haaland appeared on the agent section as testing the market I went sniffing and, eh, got him 😲 I had to use 'Interact with the Board' and didn't expect it to come to anything but a few mere hours later it was confirmed.

I've put hundreds and hundreds of hours into various editions of FM over the years, and never had the "interact with the board" option during a transfer yield any results.  I had given up on it and forgotten the option even existed until I read your post.

But... Me too!  I had spent my transfer budget so I thought I'd copy what you did and ask the board to sign Haaland, and they delivered him with no deductions from the budget.  This is Man Utd (or Man UFC grrr) as well. It is incredibly unrealistic to have the United board putting their money into a signing of course.  It feels a bit like cheating to just have Haaland for free.  The only downside is that in my manager confidence updates, they're very unhappy about the financial aspects of the Haaland deal. Well don't blame me!

Haaland is ridiculously good, but Cavani has scored 7 goals at a ratio of about one every 35 minutes.  He's even more prolific in internationals.  Ronaldo has been farmed out onto the wing.  I play a very attacking style, reminiscent of Keegan's Newcastle or Ardiles' Spurs, just trying to outscore the opposition and winning 5-2 a lot.  I'm second in the league though, so it is working.  In the Champions League I've won three from three with a goals record of scored 13, conceded 0.

There are some strange quirks to the game, stuff you would expect not to find in a finished product.  For example, one of my loan players was doing okay out on loan, and the press asked me if I'd rather have him back considering my team's current struggles.  Bear in mind that I had won four or five on the trot.  All my options to answer were along the lines of "I'd rather have him than this current bunch of losers." Weird. Also, Rashford was unhappy that I wasn't picking him while he was injured.  That guy's just a born troublemaker.

There are indeed some strange things - I had to have a team meeting as they were sad to see a player leave. I had actually just cancelled his transfer and he was in the meeting about himself.

After being sacked by Spurs then Newport I then took Oxford United to the League One title at my first attempt. Had something ridiculous like 29 clean sheets which was key to my promotion.

I definitely feel like 4-2-3-1 is broken. Let's see how it goes in the Championship though...

I'm really enjoying this so far, although doesn't feel any different to FM21 cos I'm not really utilising the data hub.

I'm managing Viktoria Koln cos I liked their badge, and it turns out they have some really good youth prospects, namely a defensive mid called Kai Klefisch and a winger called Youssef Amyn who I'm moulding into a striker to basically be Cristiano Ronaldo.

I think my enjoyment comes from making a realistic tactic that is winning me enough games for me to enjoy it, but not steamrolling everyone making it boring (and not losing every week making me want to delete the game, I guess).

Going out the cup early doors has certainly been a positive too. Hopefully I can whizz through the league campaign and get promoted (expected 9th iirc) and build from there.

I've not signed anyone and I really like my core 11 players so will be interesting to see who gets replaced first, if any!

Good and bad on this for me.

Good, I went liverpool, got mbappe on a free at the end of the first season and used interact with board to get haaland at the first transfer window so mbappe haaland upfront after the first season :)

Bad, I'm on gamepass and it's crashing for me on a fairly regular basis, just hard crash to desktop.  No previous FM games or any other games does this which makes me think it's an FM22 issue.

I've now taken Oxford to the Premier League! Won League One in my first full season. Second season in the Championship I finished second. £33m to spend on trying to survive now. I'm in 2026 so a lot of current players are now approaching retirement - got Lucas Moura in as my marquee signing. Got a new stadium being built. I still think the game is a bit easy. We shall see!

I'm looking forward to a couple of hours tomorrow evening with it. Going to try my hand at CE Europa, founding members of La Liga but currently nestling in the new fourth tier.

Won the Europa League with Europa in 2037. Like it was meant to be.

Anyway, not gonna bother with the new one even though it's on Game Pass, I'm still enjoying this game and there's fuck all of note new. I'll probably move on when they include women's football, which hopefully will be next year.

Bit of a long bump here.... My Oxford team lasted one season in the Premier league. Having the smallest budget made it a right struggle. Back in the Championship now and loads of cash to spend so should go straight back up.

Don't think I'll bother with FM23 either - what even are the new features?
