Powerslave/Exhumed Remaster

This was the first game I ever bought for my first ever console, using my student loan money to buy a Playstation. I think I had a VHS timer recording of that late night no-presenter games review show on ITV (was a bit like the chart show but with games) and it was their footage of Exhumed that inspired me to use my freedom to spend my money in ways my parents would not have approved of.

I'm no FPS fan and back in the day they used to give me quite bad motion sickness. The PS1 version of this was the one of the few I could play and I remember it being excellent. Looking forward to this although I agree there's something off about the upscaling.

Loved this on PlayStation. Even kept a little notebook written in fountain pen with the locations of all the team dolls, which also acted as a tally of the ones I’d collected. They were fun to find, and I did get them all in the end. Not sure I’d play through it again with these updated graphics, I think I’d rather play it on my RG351P if anything. Great game though.

Played Exhumed on my Saturn back in the 90’s. Looked great and was surprised to find out years later on YouTube that the Saturn version was the definite version even over the PC one from what I remember. Mostly down to the lighting.

I wouldn’t mind getting this as a physical copy, this and shadow man that came out recently. Hope those get made at some point.

More than that - the PC version was a linear shooter instead of the 3D Metroidvania that was the console game.

Playing on steam with mouse and keyboard looks and plays stunning. Music is lovely too. Looks nice, sharp and vivid.

Goes without saying that Nightdive does it again.

Z-Clip Emulation, anyone have any idea what that does?

Looking forward to John’s take on DF on this and MVG.

I'd imagine it limits the draw distance, there must have been some culling in the original which isn't needed these days.

The Switch version is great. Motion aiming seems different on pro-pad to portable which is a little annoying but otherwise enjoying it.

Does the remaster retain the original control scheme?

It does not. And suffers for it if I’m honest.

I know the old style FPS controls suck in general, but Exhumed felt like it was built around them, like how Metroid Prime controls.

It meant the game originally was more exploration than shooting, but now you need to aim more carefully.
