Paramount+ now in Europe

New show on this today, just first ep, Tulsa King. Interest piqued for me as its a mobster released from jail after a long spell inside story but said mobster is played by Sly Stallone. I know nothing about it but if it's played straight and he's an OAP struggling to understand the world kind of story can see him being quite effective in the role. If it's him as a one man army taking on the world I won't make it to ep2.

Also don't sleep on Millionaire Holiday Home Swap, its not a ch4 style mid afternoon show. It's quite a sly look at an exclusive club called 3rd home, which arranges for members to stay in each others gorgeous retreats around the globe. it's part nosing at homes you'd never see otherwise but much about the awful owners and how they become awful guests. Plus on top of that the machinations of the club itself and how it seems to have this tension at it's heart in providing the ultra wealthy something they can't otherwise buy, but only if they offer up something other than money (in this case your own property, it's the only way to get to stay in others).

I've got a month free trial from a bag of crisps but looks like there is no Paramount plus app available on my LG CX.

P+ support page claims their app is available on all 2018 and later LGs running WebOS 4 or later which is clearly a fat lie as my TV is a 2020 model and is running the latest 4.40.20 version. 🤬

Does the xbox app actually exist and work I wonder?

I guess I could also try casting to the TV from android or use airplay from my mac.

Not a good start Paramount!

There's no app showing for my C1 either. I think the problem is all the help on their site is written for the US, and they don't seem aware/don't care they've not published their app on the UK/Europe store.

I think you meant to use the Prime Video app as an add-on channel, but they don't like to make that clear anywhere.

Thanks for looking.

Hopefully I can use the month trial via Prime video, by default that offers a week and I just know that it wont let me have both trials!

They really seem to pump out a lot of bad looking direct-to-video style movies. The front page has 9 new Christmas movies. Well, some appear to be from last year, before it launched here. Saw a bunch of movies from someone named VC Andrews (presumably an author of books they are based on) with very similar posters all dropping together.

V. C. Andrews wrote Flowers in the Attic, which was hugely popular in the early 80’s. She’s probably best known for publishing just seven novels before her death in 1989, and over 70 more posthumously, making her the ultimate ghost writer.

I'm extremely disappointed with them because they still haven't yet got proper apps on smart TV's and the like and also don't stream in 4K* HDR/DV Atmos sound etc in the UK.

I've had the service available to me via my Sky sub since they launched, but the only thing I've watched of its content so far has been Yarred 4K HDR rips of Halo and Star Trek Strange New Worlds because it's only 1080p via the Sky app still.

*Their support page does say the Apple TV 5 can do 4K, but doesn't say if that's in the UK and I'm not going to buy yet another device just for yet another streaming service.

I've already got what I would think are some of, if not the, the most common higher end devices they should be aiming to have 4K HDR enabled apps available on; LG CX, PS5, XBSX, PC (well, no-one actually cares about proper apps for PC) Sky Q UHD; so am mind boggled it;s not available pretty much out the gate.

I have the last gen ATV 4K (2nd gen) and P+ isn't UHD or HDR so I doubt the new one is, unless someone here here has the 3rd gen ATV 4K & can prove me wrong.

I did the free month's trial via a current gen ATV 4k when the service launched and there was no 4k content then and that was enough justification for me to cancel. That and the near total lack of anything I wanted to watch bar Frasier.

Pretty dire all round but the lack of a full fat service in the UK is more than a little insulting.

This runs like shit on my sky q. Buffering constantly, the age restriction popping up all the time. Terrible picture quality.

Netflix, Disney and prime are all fine.

I sat down to watch some of the Halo show and then to follow up with Star Trek First Contact. I had to give up on watching both.

It's in their help but the answer is NO, stand alone P+ subs cannot be accessed via Prime Video but hilariously if you subscribe to it via Prime then you can also access P+ via the stand alone P+ apps 🤪

Anyway, subbed for a free month and only way that I could actually get it onto my LG CX was to dig out an old chromecast from the cupboard and cast from my pixel 6.  Total 🤡 👞.

Even with the 1080p limitations of the chromecast the image quality is really not very good, disappointed with that.

Is there anything to watch other than Star Trek Brave New Worlds?  Yellowstone seems to be the main recommendation but its not very good and some of the production values in it are really bargain basement.  Kelly Reilly's character does make me chuckle a bit with how kick ass she is though.

Star Trek Prodigy is bloody great.

My other half loved Yellowstone and has also watched the spinoff 1883 I think it is.

And they way I watch Paramount on my CX is via airplay and my iPad. Works very well.

I had tried airplay from my macbook but it seems to be deliberately blocked as while it appears on the TV screen the image is replaced with just a white block. I have an iPhone for work and could have airplayed from that but I don't use my work phone for any personal stuff as we have quite strict policies, installing P+ may even actually be blocked on it.

You can access Paramount+ via the Apple TV app on an LG CX, or the Amazon Prime app.

If only it were that simple!

You can only access it via the Amazon Prime app if you sign up to P+ as an add on channel within Prime itself.  If you have a standalone subscription to P+ then you cannot access it via the Prime app.

I think it's the same situation within the Apple TV app too (a google of their help suggests this) though my sub to AppleTV+ has lapsed so I don't think I can check it

Oh really?! Well, that's shit, then. I got the 50% off deal but haven't watched anything yet, so will try to remember to have a look on my LG later to see if Apple plays ball.

  • 1 month later...

Standalone apps ae now available on the Apple App store, the Google Play Store and also on the LG Content store.  I imagine it's also available on other stores/devices, too.

Yet, still no 4K, HDR, or surround sound...

I've had it on my Android phone since last summer when the service launched in the UK.

Still no Survivor or The Amazing Race on there. :(

The Apple one was there for sure. But there was no LG app.

Sorry, I thought it was only available as an app on the Apple TV, not that it was generally available on the App Store for other Apple products.

Still, I don't know what Paramount are playing at not having the same level of quality that the other big boys have available in the UK.  Especially considering that it's there in the US.

First World problems and all that, and maybe they're trying to save on bandwidth costs?
