So I just launched it, it loaded ok initially but then eventually showed a Sky error message saying..

"Thanks for your patience - we're adding subscriptions as quickly as we can so you can start enjoying Paramount+. Please try again later by going to My Sky and selection Paramount+"

Seems like maybe they could have added peoples subscriptions before they launched it but hey ho. I'll check back later.

If you know what you want to watch you can search for it and then download it like you would any normal programme on a Sky Channel. I had that same issue going through the app route so seems it’s best just to treat it like a standard channel and associated programmes for now.

Halo about to start :)

Its rare to feel like you get value out of any media service these days but as far as an existing Sky customer goes this is pretty sweet.

Especially for Trekkies like myself.

I've only got Cinema because they virtually gave it me, when I rang up earlier in the year to renegotiate my contract.

They gave everyone Peacock last year too (the NBC/Comcast owned one), although that was probably a sweetener from the Comcast takeover.

Cool that it's free with Sky.

Cool I can use it on Apple TV, iPhone etc. too once signed up through Sky.

Uncool that it doesn't support UHD or Dolby Atmos yet.

I'll wait until it does before using

Not that I can see. That was the first place I looked. Maybe the box needs to update, but I’d have expected it to be pushed out for launch. I can still access it, so not a big deal, but it’s odd that is not easy to find (it’s probably staring me in the face in some obvious fashion…).

You might have to force an update if your box hasn’t been off. I think it updates when powered down.

What Trek stuff does this have so far?

I would imagine only the newer stuff. I just checked Netflix and that still has TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT. I'm guessing Netflix has a deal for those and until that runs out, they won't be on P+.

So Strange New Worlds is good? I absolutely adored and basically grew up with Next Generation (6pm on weekdays but can’t remember how frequent it was?) but Discovery and very sadly Picard have left me with little excitement for anything Trek related.

Seems pretty comprehensive:

I'm with you on Discovery and Picard, but Strange New Worlds is really, really good! It addresses basically every issue you could have with the other new live action shows, including going back to the old episodic format, a strong ensemble cast you actually care about, and just excellent Star Trek storylines.

Lower Decks is well worth watching too, defying all expectations. I enjoyed Prodigy too, although that's obviously aimed at a younger audience if that bothers you.

I do think Discovery improved with season 4, but it still wasn't that good and still had all the usual issues with pacing its overly drawn out story.

I got that, just do it again and you'll get a screen asking if you want to add it to your subscription for £0.00

You will also have to create an account after you have done the above, which means you get to use it on web, phones and tablets too!  For FREE*!

* as long as you subscribe to Sky Cinema

Oh excellent. Where does it sit in whatever timeline it’s meant to be?

It's set soon after Discovery season 2, and about ten years before TOS.

It's technically a spin-off of Discovery, and there are a handful of references to that show but nothing too important. Pike and Spock were major characters in Discovery season 2, and stuff that happened to them there does have an impact on SNW, but I think it's explained well enough in SNW that you don't need to have watched Discovery season 2.

I would strongly recommend that you do not watch Discovery season2.

For anyone wondering when Top Gun Maverick is likely to hit this, while Paramount apparently have a 45 day window for cinema releases, I just read "it's been reported" that Tom Cruise has specified a 120 day cinema window. So we may not see Maverick on P+ until September.

Bloody irritated.  Only got access to sky on iPad due to reasons.  When I do a search I find the stuff on there but it will only download to my skybox which I can’t access right now.  Anyway round that?

Yeah, use the app instead.  If you can't install the app, then nothing you can do - I'm not sure if you can access all recordings when you have a multiscreen sub All Sky does is redirect to the app, so the programmes and movies are not a standard downloadable thing, it's like Netflix and Disney+.

Trying to sign up now but just get the oops something went wrong. When you say app is this the one on the App Store or something that downloads to qbox?

@davidcottonI mean the standard iOS or Android app.  I have the Android app and it allows downloads, according to Settings.

If you need to sign up, normally you have to add the sub on your account through the Sky Q box first.  Not sure if you can do it via web, let me check....

EDIT: what happens when you go to https://www.sky.com/signin?area=mysky&successUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sky.com%2Factivate-subscription%2Fparamount (or https://www.sky.com/activate-subscription/paramount) and try to add it to your account?

EDIT2: Your Sky Q box will have the app listed in the Apps section, it's the same thing. You may have to download a software update first (which is what I did) - Settings, System Info, Software Version, Setup  Software Download

EDIT3: When the Apps section eventually updates (which may be a while after the software download), you'll get this:

Unfortunately we can’t process your request online right now.

Please try again later or alternatively view the status of your account

Guessing they’re slammed right now.

@davidcotton OK, you're going to have to wait.  I did it quickly but IIRC once you have added it you're immediately directed to create an account which is linked to your Sky sub.  Don't create a Paramount+ account separately, or you'll end up with an account that you'll pay £6.99 a month for (after the 7-day trial).

Once you have created a linked-to-Sky Paramount+ account, then you can use the iOS and Android apps to log in.  In fact I've downloaded the app for my Smart TV and it works there too.  Also, you can log into the website with it and it works fine too.

EDIT: The account is similar to how Netflix sets it up:

image.png.ebe14781146123462d74f3d1f5729931.png

One negative - unlike Netflix or Disney+ you can't set a PIN per profile, you can only set an account-wide PIN for certain rating levels 🤦🏾‍♂️

Super Pumped - The Battle For Uber looks worth a watch. It'll round out a run of this sort of thing after The Dropout & We Crashed, which I enjoyed a lot.

Always good to go in semi blind then see what they've taken liberties with afterwards, but I'm sure Uber has enough rotten stories to mean they haven't had to make it all up.
