Marvel's Hawkeye

I enjoyed this more then I expected thus far. It's got that 'superhero's bad week off' kinda vibe, together with a teen mystery/origin, which works quite well. There's not a single thing that's... surprising about it but it appears the script knows full well that there's no surprises here, and is just having fun playing through it.

It's carried by Steinfeld being bloody good and having a solid chemistry with Renner, who's current look (dragged along tarmac and soaked in vodka for a decade) sells the world weary hero thing on its own.

Solid start to a solid spin off side story.

I just watched both episodes, and while I enjoyed it for the most part and I do think Clint and Kate have good chemistry, something felt off about it. A lot of the humour seemed so forced. The larping bit did nothing for me. I dunno, maybe I've just turned into a grumpy old cynic.

They really missed a trick by not making that section and amazing piece of elaborate choreographed action. I would have liked it if they went the whole hog on it.

See, I liked it for the opposite reason, that it was so easy for him it was almost boring. I did like that he admitted to not regretting it at the end though.

Yeah, exactly this. Loved the way that was played out and it really nailed where Clint is right now, especially his conversation with the guy at the end of it.

Spoiler

Him not being able to accept or simply being exhausted by the way people revere and worship him like a top tier Superhero is clearly building to some kind of big 'moment' for him and I'm all in for it.

Action wise its felt fairly reserved so far but Clint and Kate together are just brilliant!

I liked it but would have loved it if they did a massive over the top old boy style fight scene there- it would probably have been too much though but would have been funny.

I do like the idea of the 'bossfight' being shot with really dramatic camerawork and grandiose backing music, then when the killing blow hits they just cut away to an external pov where it's just 'clink-clink', completely mundane. Although I suppose they kind of did that with Chris Pratts singing/dancing in Endgame.

Biggest laugh from me was:

Spoiler

Little Kid running off after a Superhero and passing straight past Clint.  Kate trying to cheer him up with at least they have an Hawkeye, but it turning out to be Katniss Everdean.🤣  Really owning that everybody considers Hawkeye to be the most boring Avenger.👍

Swordsman reminded me of Matt Berry.

So far I really enjoy the show, Kate and Lucky are the best part of the series for me. Still not a fan as Jeremy as Hawkeye, he just doesn't have the look or personality and always would have preferred Jensen Ackles for Hawkguy. But he's alright but Kate is the best.

Really enjoying this so far. I think hawkeyes lack of 'powers' lends itself better to the smaller scale of a TV show.

This might be a stretch but...

Spoiler

the one eyed dog seems to pop up at convenient moments and it's missing the sane eye as Nick Fury. Can the skrull shape shift into animal form in the MCU?

Really enjoying this! Renner gets more to do than just shooting arrows really really well - he’s somehow more charismatic than in any of the movies. There’s a sort of charming undercurrent to it all - he’s weary and tired, but actually he likes Kate and is enjoying it all really, and he’s totally made up that it’s Christmas. It’s nice!

Oh, and Lalo Salamanca’s Cheshire cat grin is not to be outdone. The least trustworthy face on television!

That was fucking excellent, with some action that was really well done, easily up there with the best Marvel films, well, apart from the odd part where Renner's stunt double is clearly in the scene instead of Renner, but hey.
