Has anyone come across any good guides out there on how to remap or download custom control settings for mouse and keyboard focussed games?

I was having some issues with the left and right click flow on FTL.

Is there decent community templates?

Edit: I am using one from 'beefjeff' it is for the Steam Controller, but wroks wonderfully on Deck.

There is one from 'MisterGenius' for the Deck but I've not tried that yet.

I have a 512gb model incoming, but not too fussed about the extra storage or anti glare screen. If anyone wants to do a trade for a 64gb or a 256gb deck with the price difference, I would be happy to make a trade. Used or new.

Will put this in trading if needed :)

Sorry if this is a daft question: Is this specifically for FTL, or a tool for remapping you're referring to? 🙂

EDIT: I just found the Steam Guide for remapping https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2804823261

Click on the game in the library and to the right you will see a controller and gear icon. Select the controller and navigate to Community Layouts and find it there.

Every game has that option.

Any word on Forza Horizon 4 running on this yet? That’s Forza Horizon 4, not Forza Horizon 5.

I'm playing it quite happily. A fair few crashes on default graphics, but I've lowered shadows, detail etc. and haven't had any crashes for days. Runs very smoothly - but admittedly it took some tinkering.

Speaking of Forza, I don't suppose Microsoft's games on Steam sync saves with the Game Pass versions? I figured they might using your MS account, but I guess that could be wishful thinking.

EDIT: Apparently this doesn't happen, which is a shame but understandable.

Is there any way of checking what a Steam Key will get you before you redeem it? I've one or two old Humble Bundle things in my account that have multiple games attached and I don't want to chance redeeming them just in case its all stuff thats in my library.

Also, anyone want a copy of DmC?

I always thought that was part of the key registration process on the desktop client - it'll tell you what you're redeeming before you confirm, and as @bm says, it'll knock you back if you already own it (although if it's a GOTY version with DLC you haven't got, it will process it once you confirm). Very aware I might be wrong on that mind, I normally hard mash through it.

It won't let you add it to your library if you've already redeemed it.

And I would love DmC if available - can swap you for another Steam key if you like?

It won't add multiples of the same game alright. My possible issue is that it will let me redeem a bundle code if theres something new in there like a Dawn of War 2 add-on. I'd just like a list of whats in the bundle so I can decide if its worth redeeming myself or if I'd be better giving it to someone else.

My deck is always - like, daily -  downloading lots of updates for games. Updates is probably the wrong word as they’re small files, usually around 500kb topping out at 5-10mb. A lot of these games are relatively old so I can’t imagine the developers are pumping out updates every other day or so.

Whats that all about? Is that a PC thing?

That doesn't normally happen on PC, they get updates usually the same frequency as modern console games do. It could be a steam os thing, probably shaders

Yeah, shader cache stuff. Its the kind of thing which is small but will give users pause of thought thinking something odd is up.

I think they should do a better job of labelling shader cache updates as such and separating them from "game updates". It's come up multiple times in this thread and it perpetuates the "a PC gaming thing" that constantly complicates or confuses the user experience.

It's great they are utilising the fact they've got fixed hardware but just do a better job of selling the feature so users aren't concerned something is going wrong.

I also wonder how long until these cache updates are expected to keep changing. How many hours of gameplay does it take for the latest shader cache implementation go be basically "complete". And how often is the algorithm being changed meaning the cache needs updating.

Thanks…what are they? I’m assuming it’s not an in game lighting thing.

They all show up as downloads, same as the much larger one I had today for Lego Star Wars that was a proper patch/update.

I could be wrong, but its about loading game data/assets beforehand so that it doesn't cause a burden from loading in gameplay which could cause stutter etc

Its why Elden Ring on the deck didn't stutter when it did on PC at launch

A shader is a little application/program that runs on your GPU to apply some change to an image before it is displayed to you. In short that means moving or changing the colour of pixels. So it can be lighting related.

Before they can be run on your GPU they must be compiled for your hardware (combination of graphics card and drivers). This compilation is a relatively CPU intensive operation which normally happens as required when the game is running. The result is that your CPU is doing this compilation and not running your game.... Which causes performance degradation.

So instead if there is a fixed common hardware setup you can make it worth pre-compiling them and distributing them to other users. But they need to be recompiled for any new driver update.

I'm not sure who does the compilation for the cache. Is it Valve or is it users playing the games.

Oh Yeah!!!!!

Nice one, same here! Apologies if this has been discussed to death, but for the UK what kind of time frame is it from getting a tracking number to delivery? (I'm not even sure which country they're being sent from!)

I paid last Thursday, got shipping tracking from the Netherlands on Monday, and got a Parcel Force tracking number this morning for delivery tomorrow.

I mean I have just went through the verified/playable list on my account and made a playlist...

Talk about being buzzing to finally have a portable 360! Some absolute bangers in there, Condemned, Mirrors Edge, Dead Rising... But Binary Domain is just fucking incredible. Cannot wait!

I am absolutely

In my experience, plenty of games that are listed as "Unsupported" end up working just fine too. They just usually need a little bit of tweaking in the graphics settings is all.
