Given people with 512gb reservations at 18:13 have had there’s and I am 18:15 I have decided that today will be the day I get the email.

I can feel it.

Anyone wanting lottery numbers this week just let me know.

Damn. The receipt I have from Steam says I ordered at 18:09, so I was wondering where the fuck my email is. However when I use one of these Steam Deck Calculator things, it shows my order time as 18:25. I did have enormous trouble at the time getting the damn thing to pre-order on Steam, and the same calculator is saying I should get it in early June, so at least I should have mine before I next have any travelling planned.

I'm in a similar boat. I jumped on to order at 6pm exactly but couldn't get the bloody thing to authorise payment until 6:19pm. Not much longer to wait hopefully.

I think I read about it coming via the Netherlands or something. Does this mean I’ll get hit with import tax?

Nope. What you paid already covers tax and shipping.

You're very likely going to have to wait a week after confirming your order because of customs, though.

Does anyone want to become a rllmuk legend and start a guide in the first post adding all the latest stuff to it? Like how to run epic games store (I think you can?) and best settings and the like?

An idiots newbies guide, if you will.

I can probably knock something up with some links to the most popular shit, but there's a chance it could all mean fuck-all in the coming months as the community gets their own handhelds and fuck around with it.

I can have a look closer to the end of the week. Maybe create a new thread for that sort of bullshit (Obligatory @dumpster ode by calling it 'Turn Your Steam Deck Into A Fantastic Everything Machine', obv)

Any guide here is only going to get massively out of date within minutes isn't it? Can it really beat typing what you want in Google? And as per the Gamepass thread no-one will read the guide anywhere and ask their question?

I mean fair play to anyone who puts the time into it but seems like nothing but asking for complaints.

Here is how Lutris works: it doesn't.

You're welcome!

(I did hear some shit that installing Bottles includes the dependencies that Lutris requires to work properly without command line bullshit, but I'm busy getting dunked on in PoE)

I might give PoE a try.

Yep. I can certainly put together a list of existing guides, but it's a foundation that's on sand and even the usual knee-jerk YouTube guides are horribly outdated. And the gamepass-style posts on this forum is a very valid point.

Probably even worse to come when SteamOS 3 is officially out, and people start hacking together their own distributions (heck, it's already happened with HoloISO, which lets you install SteamOS onto.. well, any x86 device).

well I’d love neon abyss and exanima if they are free - but also conscious I grabbed one of  your codes the other day!

God, I’m loving playing Half-Life 2 on Deck. Suits the combo of controls perfectly, and is still one of the GOATs of course. Unsurprisingly it plays great, and it’s fun to go back to it nearly 15 years later. Currently going through the Sandtraps section - probably the bit I like the least.

I’ve been playing huge amounts of No Mans Sky on this, I couldn’t click with it on Console but it’s just perfect on Steam Deck, runs flawlessly, battery lasts for an age playing it, doesn’t seemingly kick the fan in so can play in bed with the baby asleep in the same room. Great stuff

Back to mining rocks and building bases!

Because I am thick as pigshit... I am positive I asked before, but can't remember.

I have a 1TB card coming. Is there an easy way to copy everything across?

Had my first Deck hiccup. Playing the (you would hope) thoroughly verified Half-Life 2, and get to the later section (Anticitizen One), and as soon as the squad mates join you - game freezes. Fans go crazy, Deck gets very hot. Can get back to the library, but the game (and the fans) won’t stop. Sleep mode doesn’t help. Hard reboot does the trick. Tried the game again, got a tiny bit further, same again. Hmmm.

Oh dear Valve, you did verify this all the way to the end, right? I’m on stable OS, so will try Beta OS tomorrow, or a different version of Proton next I guess. But it’s a good reminder to me that, ultimately, it is still a PC. A minor annoyance in the otherwise console-like experience, of course.

Well, bugger me. Connected the Deck to Xbox Game Pass, and can now play all of those games seamlessly via the xCloud, with no perceptible lag. Bonkers.

Just been playing Tunic (lovely) and Flight Sim (how is this even possible!).

Mind blown. Rechristening the Deck the Cloud of Steam Deck.

And so the pile of shame grows further. Awesome stuff.

Possibly a stupid question but here we go.

If I buy the steam key for MGSV on cdkeys for £4.99 is there any difference between it and the one on steam itself for £24.99?

Ive used cdkeys for Xbox games and ps plus etc but the world of PC’s is brand new to me.
