Steam Deck (handheld from Valve) - shipping is 4-8 days from NL to UK

At the risk of being a bit of a downer, I picked up Transport Fever 2 based on the praise in here, and after 20 minutes realised it wasn't for me — not for any deep issues with the concept or the mechanics (in 20 minutes I'd hardly have time to gauge that!), but because of a daft little thing that completely pulled me out of the game: there are no turntables. Or, to be more precise, there's no need for them: steam trains pull into a terminus, load up, then magically flip from front to back and pull out of the station. It's dumb, but with games like this most of the pleasure for me is setting up a virtual railway and watching it run; realising that I don't have to actually figure out a practical layout beyond 'get from station to station', rather than needing to factor in loops/turntables/sidings just spoiled it for me!

Yes, I am extremely stupid, but I figure if anyone else has the same unreasonable level of pedantry about How Trains Work, they might want to know before they pull the trigger.

How Long To Beat needs to FRO, claiming 1.2h to beat Forklift Extreme.

7.6h and I've just 3* all the core levels, collecting FORK letters and posters (but not doing all the time trial elements). Now into the DLC levels.

Such a nice chill game.

Two things...

First, Forklift Extreme isn't on How Long To Beat. The plugin for DeckyLoader is reporting the results for Extreme Forklifting 2 which is the only match if you search for "Forklift Extreme".

Second, How Long To Beat is based solely on player reports so your issues would be with them. Its basically pretty inaccurate for new or relatively unpopular titles.

Sorry, I got carried away. I meant it runs flawlessly on rpcs3 via emudeck and is very nice to have on there.

God damn it. Thought there was a port for a moment

I'm really enjoying Spellforce Conquest of Eo. It's an unusual combination of 4X strategy and story-driven RPG, with tactical battles similar to Age of Wonders (and those games are awesome). If you like Civ but sometimes want to unleash an army of the undead on people, this is your game.

Nicely designed controls and interface for the deck.

You may enjoy NIMBY Rails.

I have this but couldn't play it due to no dark mode. I assume that hasn't changed?

This cyroututilities thing I keep hearing about, does it boost emulators as well? Is it complicated to set up?

I would kill for Fight Night Round 4 to run smoothly via RPCS3 but everything I have tried has failed. Thinking this might be an option.

I don't see Forklift Extreme on there. I see Extreme Forklifting 2 but that's a different game.

Also it doesn't do fifths of an hour.

Are you perhaps on Dekay Mode?

no made up dekay mode, it clearly does do fifths of an hour, this is what the HLTB decky plugin pulls in, but as said above its probably pulled in an inferior forklift game, not this classic

Should do and it's very easy to setup. Watch this video from the fev.

In preparation for my Steam Deck arrival, I spent ages over the last couple of nights going through the last 1/4 or so of this thread, collected some useful tips and utilities to download, and my Steam wishlist has gone from 2 games to 56.

Eek.

Better buy a few before the sale ends.

Sad that Tchia has gone Epic exclusive. Had been looking forward to that if it ran on the Deck. Guess I'll check in on it when it comes out elsewhere. Enough to get on with in the meantime.

Talking about the 2010 games, You had me thinking about Binary Domain. It's £1.50 for the collection at CD keys.

I grabbed it at that price.
It has a weird and annoying launcher.

Once that's set up and out of the way, glorious 720p 60 fps with everything on max! 🍆

Install heroic launcher and this won't be a problem

I have it. But native Steam launch is just better. Always. The exclusivity will drop and it'll be a better integrated experience.

This does remind me to fuck around with the new version of SteamOS, as it does include the new pipeline stuff that improves shader stutter, which would be ideal for all the free shit on EGS that don't have access to shader cache downloads from the client.

Anybody had any problems with the new update? I've seen a couple of posts about suspend/resume being shagged on Reddit, but I don't know if that's universal or with OS modifications.

Not had any problems, other than the whole system rebooting when I bought a game once.

It's weird how bad the actual buying of games on the deck is.

Yep, and the whole browsing experience is bunk, too.

At least the phone app works again for payment - I ended up buying my Sale games via a web browser because PayPal was being a shit, but after that the app recognised my PayPal account again and let me buy games direct again.

It's no wonder official key stores became so prevalent (well, not really - I think it was more humble bundle, keys from physical games at the start of my PC journey always felt a cop-out back when broadband speeds were still crap)

So, it's 2-4 weeks delivery apparently when I ordered less than 48 hours ago. And I just got the "We're preparing your items to ship"email with tracking details!

Gonna go buy that SD card!

as a sucker for a quid or so of 20y old jank I'm in for Binary Domain

top tip, on the janky launcher go to controls section and use the arrows to scroll down, you'll find a setting for xbox 360 controller icons, which will hopefully make the intro easier to get thru

are folks using mic commands ?

As another Deck newb any chance of sharing what you found?

Bloody real life means that other than buying games in the sale I've hardly touched the Deck since getting it.
