Yeah it caught me out too. They changed it because the game isn't that simple any more!

Apparently I already own the game in full. So that's nice.

Is this Systemshock demo not new, or it’s just been updated or something? I’ll have to try it with keyboard and mouse as it’s unplayable with Deck controls, I can’t read any notes or emails etc.

For some reason RE6 is showing as verified/green compared to when i first got my Deck.

So I installed it again, and yes the cut scenes in the campaign have stuttering problems, but the only part I care about….Mercenaries runs beautifully.

Happy days!

Arcrunner is pretty darn lovely to look at - chugs a tiny bit on the default settings, but it's very smooth a setting lower on the deck and still looks really nice.

It's also nice to have another arcade style third person shooter on the platform, plays great.

Also played Planet of Lana (really lovely), Rusted Moss (lovely Momodora-looking Metroid, but with quite convoluted controls and grapple mechanics) and Eggcellerate! To The Tropics (which is also nice, but it's very infuriating!)

Anyone have any experience of Deadlink on deck?

Last time I tried it was during a Next Fest, and it didn't load up.

If it's showing as playable now on the store page, I'm guessing something is different!

I’m seeing my brother next weekend and can give him the Steam Deck I bought for him, but really don’t want to!

Am thinking hard about getting myself one.

Order a new one for him and keep the one you have. Should easily arrive in time if you do it today!!!!

Just keep it.

Get one of these from amazon, will arrive tomorrow.  Then gaslight him and say he misunderstood.

I think I’ll wait and see how much I miss it. But I’ve installed Pillars of Eternity on my desktop PC and playing it sat at a desk is just no match for quick resume and playing it sat on the couch or whatever. It actually even looks better on Deck, too, because of the low res models looking terrible stretched on a big screen.

I’m also a cheap skate when it comes to myself, so despite being happy to spend the money on him I’ll probably try to scoop one up at a discount in Trading if it’s for me.

That's fair. A wise man once said "it's only a good deal if you wanted it in the first place", although I should keep reading that when I look at Steam sales!

I'm hoping to get through more Next Fest Demos over the next couple of days. Bit of a rough time with trying to play Monster Hunter and a Mobile game event at the same time, but lord knows I'm trying.

Your brother has two hands, he needs two Steam Decks! Just keep the second one for extended playtesting.

Started "Season: A Letter To The Future" this evening. About an hour in and it's not one for people who like a stable high frame rate. Doesn't really bother me but not a perfect experience on Deck.

And it's a confusing game in structure. Stopped for now whilst I resort to asking their Discord to explain the basic flow of the game. For something so much about memory and exploration it utterly fails to introduce you to where the borders are between areas and that you might be cut off from them once you leave (by crossing an invisible point on the map).

Soured my opening hour of play that. But it is wonderful to look at.

Steam Next Fest Impressions.

Tape to Tape

A roguelite ice hockey game is something I never expected to work. But work it does and I am all over this one. Decent hockey mechanics, simple controls and very arcadey with rogue elements inspired by Slay the Spire

Yep. I’ve only had time to play one match but seems great and runs well.

I've been after a new sports game and this feels great. I have been resisting Casey Powell Lacrosse 16 so far.

Playing Spider-Man Miles Morales on this, seems to run well. Not sure I want to play main missions on the Deck, but it's great for just swinging around the city and doing side content stuff.

The Deck and WFH is a dangerous combination, anyone else found that? I can get into a game in seconds without leaving my desk, and still keep half an eye on work emails, instant messages, a massive bunch of tests that I'm running, etc. I wouldn't ordinarily dream of literally playing a video game while on the clock, but a combination of this device existing, and being on a job where my level of output isn't actually very dependent on what I do, has led to temptation getting the better of me. Thing is the company want people to come into the office more... starting with one day a week, now two. I assume part of that is that they don't want people to be doing what I'm doing! But if they had a decent working culture, and ways to measure actual productivity, they wouldn't need to be literally physically looking over the shoulder of your employees to check they're working, would they?

Wow, Metal Gear Solid 5 is absolutely glorious on the Steam Deck. Looks beautiful, runs smoothly, isn’t a brutal battery drain. And the gameplay-focused mission structure means it’s perfect to dip in and out.

And Christ but that game is a masterpiece. It’s mind boggling that it’s almost eight years old, if it came out as a new game this year it would still seem revolutionary.

Neat - the Ghost Trick, Etrian Odyssey and We Love Katamari remasters during the Nintendo Direct are launching day and date on Steam.

I'll very likely get WLK on launch - that series and Wario Ware helped me through some rough times while disillusioned by video games a good couple of decades ago.

I still need to 100% KD Reroll, accidentally. Had only a couple of presents left, hopefully Steam Cloud's enabled on that game!

That's good to know. I take it not the same for MegaMan Battle Network?

I sat down to play some Next Fest demos last night, docked with a controller, as was the style back then...

Man, the Next Fest store pages just do not work on the Steam Deck (at least, docked). I could only get it to show six or so games, couldn't browse categories, couldn't even see any of the promised hundreds. Does it work handheld? In the end, I had to go to desktop mode and do it from there.

Of the games I did manage to play, found some that ended up on my wishlist:

Planet of Lana - gorgeous Limbo-esque side-scroller.

Bzzzt - infuriating but addictive pixel-art Celeste-esque playformer.
