Steam Deck (handheld from Valve) - shipping is 4-8 days from NL to UK

Yeah much of my additions are from review codes, plus the odd cheap bundle. (Eg: referral credit on humble).

I think I tend to go through a pattern... Play little bits of lots, then settle into something properly.

It also includes games my son gets and plays (with Edith starting to play stuff too).

Today was a plan to try and get through less games and get further into the games I play.

I was surprised how easy it is to reach out and get some 'older' (weeks or months old) from PR contacts echo just have some codes left (see Dune: Spice Wars recently)

The ADHD driven FOMO is something that I want to cover on the site soon.

One thing I recently did was to take my card and PayPal details off my accounts and pass then to my partner to stop me using. I get myself a monthly budget (out of my PIP) that I use on games as that is be only real vice (don't smoke, drink, du drugs, etc). But it is amazing how far that can stretch thanks to gg.deals

My goal is to get to triple figures of completed games by end of 2023 and request less games to cover on the site (after clearing everything requested over the past months, which I think see me into releases as late as May).

Anyway... Enough about my broken brain.

I started Last Campfire last night and that is a bloody charming game so far, some really nice puzzles in there and a great one to play for like an hour a day.

In these periods I'm seeking some idealised game nirvana. The idea of a game that utterly captivates me. But there is probably nothing that can do it in that moment. So everything is played for maybe an hour and brushed aside. I say I'll come back but I wont. Its on to the next victim to be used and discarded as not good enough.

Yeah, I can totally identify with this. It’s fine when I’m playing something like Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey or Outer Wilds, but when they’re done there’s a constant search for the next thing to obsess over. Takes a while sometimes.

I really get the OCD FOMO thing, it's almost triggering a side of me with games I've not had since I chipped my PS2 or got a GBA flash cart, except its part and part on this machine with emulation but a ton of totally legit Steam stuff.

I keep saying I'm a lapsed gamer so catching up on this PC stuff I've totally missed is quote intoxicating. I've never been much of a game completionist, I'd rather play things til I've had enough of them, and when picking up codes for a couple of quid that doesn't feel like I need much time to get y moneys worth.

Then something comes along like Train Valley 2 which I was curious about but love, I've been dabbling with something more strategic but get lost a bit in the bigger games, it's totally hitting the mark for me and cost a couple of quid.

I will stop buying but it's hard at the moment, just saw a vid with an old MarioMaker clone called Levelhead which reviewed well I recall in past, it's £15 on steam but codes are available for less than a quid on code stores so that got added just now.

NO! I will not buy it!

...it's only £1 though...

I need to get on the emulators, to be fair though I have all the old Nintendo stuff on my Switch but it would be nice playing Wind Waker, Metroid Prime and so on. Hopefully it’s straight forward, I’m not keen on searching for roms and I have no idea to rip the originals, I don’t even have a disc drive.

Obligatory: https://hard-drive.net/hd/video-games/proud-raspberry-pi-owner-has-played-five-minutes-of-every-video-game/

Kinda want to play Pizza Tower, but I'm intimidated by the art style and the fact that I've never played a Wario Land game. I think there's a demo on itch that I'll have to look at first.

Played through a route of We Know The Devil, but I found it extremely abstract to the point it felt like it aggressively doesn't want to make a lick of sense. I'm hoping Heaven Will Be Mine will be a lot less abrasive.

I did boot up Kyle Is Famous, though, after owning it for years and never playing it, likely from a humble bundle - it's really good! It's snappy, funny, and it's really digestible due to the limited amount of things you can do in a cycle.

Hmm. If you can't rip your own originals then some searching is required. Nintendo in particular is more hidden since they went after the hosting sites. I hear that stuff is out there if you want to set sail though.

Mind me asking where from?

https://gg.deals

great site for finding bargains - the main legit players are all there plus a lot of the steam key resellers which I think are more of a gamble in some cases (though I've got a few things off instant gaming and eneba with no issues so far).

I've just followed this guide to get a proper YouTube front end on the deck - up to 4K display, console UI with controller support and has adblock as standard.

There's a couple of small nuances with the UI that could be better (2x speed playback is missing, and the scan functions could be more granular instead of every 10 seconds), but the main thing is idle YouTube browsing with ad/sponsor blocking while the deck is docked, and it's rad.

Posted this in the Dead Space thread but worth putting it here as well for those like myself who were considering getting the game, and it looks like Valve are attempting to smooth out the issues with those nasty loading spikes and hitches. Hotfix available now with a patch from Motive to follow shortly :)

I really want to play an old championship manager game on the deck.

There is Champ Man 07 and 08 on the store for cheap but not sure if.they will work.

*There's no reports for the games I mentioned. 😉

i always take a look in the discussions threads on steam and search for the deck then, if that fails it's take a punt and refund

Couple of interesting finds in that mega reddit thread

Another rogue-like I'd never heard of called Vagante, it's nails hard and hates you like a lot of them do, but seems to have a certain charm and is well liked on Steam. Once you've worked out how to get the controls working (have to use touch to go into settings and put to controller) and that selecting certain things is X not A it plays fine. Not on sale via Steam but codes available for a couple of quid easily enough.

Then the better known Sleeping Dogs, which is listed as unsupported but apparently works well, I got the definitive edition for less than £3 on CD Keys. This era of older games seems to run at quite decent graphical settings if they work.

That's me done, 3 new games today and almost spent £10.

The Deck really is the best machine/console ever.

I totally identify with this.

It's great to be absorbed by something, isn't it? To be so into a game that you think about it at work and look up wikis in your lunch break. But that is rare, and can't often be forced. Whenever I've found such a game, it's been one that I've stumbled on by accident. Very few games that I set out trying to make the one game ever worked out like that.

And this ends up causing stress... you're always looking for that one game, and when you find yourself an hour into a game that isn't working out, you start to regret the time you've wasted that could have been spent playing the one game.

This generally ends with seeking refuge in familiarity - a Dark Souls run, an old MMO, some retro games that are nowhere near as good as you remember.

It was a lot easier when I was young. Getting a single £7.99 game every six months on the Spectrum had a focusing effect - you either make this the one game or you go back to lego. Nowadays there are so many options... a paralysis of choice.

Reading all these threads and links recommending games, then seeing how cheap you can get them, it’s incredibly easy to game on a stricter budget with this machine. Even the brand new Dead Space I can pick up for £40, and yeah that isn’t cheap but it’s a lot better than on console.

In saying all that it would be easy just to buy too much 🥵

Well Sleeping Dogs is a lot of game for less than £3. It’s like being in your own open world HK schlocky action movie. Combat is lovely and brutal with environmental kills.

Runs fine on medium settings holding mostly 60fps, with odd dips into 50s.
