@bradigor Medieval manuscript styled strategy game. Not Pentiment but will draw comparisons because of the aesthetic. One of the attack units is a farting donkey :)

Oh yes. Was tempted but going to wait until cheap I think

Something just went SNAP inside my Deck when I pressed the right trigger, and now it's rattling around inside.

All the buttons work, trigger resistance seems fine, haptics work.. what the heck was it?

Do I open it up and have a look, contact Valve.. answers on a postcard please.

That falls firmly within my ‘ignore and pretend it didn’t happen’ category. Like toothache.

I've got a root canal booked for Monday after trying that. I'll contact Steam Support..

I once fell asleep during a root canal

I'd send it back personally incase it is a prelude to something worse

I'm in one of those ruts where I can't get into anything properly. Just playing bits of everything.

It's still better than the usual rut of just building up a library and never playing anything.

Only if you're actually enjoying the act of dipping in. If every game is getting 30 minutes to an hour and you just feel unfulfilled afterwards it's just the same but with an extra tinge of sadness.

I need to tinker with something. I am about 150 games into changing all my capsule art. I might start a project to create a unified capsule art for all my games and pop them on SteamGridDB

Steam Deck is the future of gaming for me. Just wish Sony pushed its stuff out faster on there.

I know I barely turn on my Series X these days.

Cyrsis 2 has been my game of choice this week and having this run on a handheld with extreme graphic settings at 60fps is simply magical.  It’s also made me wish more games were like this and not always bloody open world 30 hour plus borefests.

I'm the same, the only reason I'll consider keeping game pass going in a couple of months is for the cloud streaming on this.

Saw a vid earlier about the Watch Dogs 2 game which Ubi have stuck back on Steam and apparently runs quite well, it's a tenner to if you like that sort of thing

That's watch dogs 3, which isn't very good. 2 is good!

so confusing, I tend to mentally merge all that Ubisoft stuff into one big Tom Clancy's Assassin Creed series that I never pay that much attention to.

They're mostly all the same game. Legion actually does try somethings differently from usual Ubisoft games but it doesn't do it very well.

There is an easy way to remember which Ubisoft games to play.

Spoiler

Don't!

Anyway. I said last year that the as Steam as Deck will change gaming and have the biggest effect on the industry since the Wii and I stand by that.

It will change the way developers and publishers think about how games are made and marketed. We have been pushing for more more more in terms of graphics etc and file sizes have been getting bigger and bigger. The Steam Deck will make them think about how can they get games to run and work on that rather than just 'buy the newest hardware to keep up granddad'

Hopefully it also makes them think about accessibility due to wanting to make more sales in something with a smaller screen. I'm talking more traditional PC games here that haven't generally ported to consoles in general, let alone a Switch.

All idle speculation on my part, but I believe it to be the case.

I kind of get it but so many developers have totally ignored the success of the Switch and just bypassed it despite the huge potential audience.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the deck and it’s rekindled my love for gaming but it’s pretty niche surely.

The Switch was the go to machine for indies though with many going there first/simultaneous with PC, so I don’t think it’s ignored so much as the market has shifted. Also, you can play pretty much all first party titles on there, apart from Nintendo, on Deck.

As much as this is true I think it's put us in this odd place now. The use of Steam Deck for pirating Switch games just seems a bit too accepted for me.

Of course no issue if you've got a copy of the game (physical or digital).

But then I have no issue with emulation and piracy of older stuff which isn't available any other way on current hardware (if you cannot play it on a current gen console or PC I've no sympathy for developers/publishers having their stuff pirated). I feel a bit more grey over where this stuff is made available on modern forms but at what I consider to be silly prices. Which is very subjective.

All this to say, I dunno, the Switch emulation scene is just that touch too open about itself for my liking.

Can’t see it myself. I mean it’s alright , but there’s too many hurdles for it to become that big.

I think it opens up lots more people to pc gaming, but I don’t think it becomes a must have product.

What kind of hurdles? I think it removes many of the barriers to PC on price alone. You have to consider this is only the first version of Steam Deck, it’s only going to get more refined and user friendly from here on in.

I'm the biggest cheerleader of the deck, but its a niche product. It's only sold in the low millions (obviously stock was an issue first few months). The mainstream console buyers dgaf its for fucking nerds like you dummies

It will encourage more developers to get games running on it because it has a decent userbase. But you could say the same thing of the switch which has plenty of last gen games crowbarred onto it. And current ones.

But I doubt it’s going to have much of an influence on AAA design in general and way less than the switch did (which is because the AAA first party games are exclusive to the system so that’s a given).
