Defense Grid 2 runs beautifully on this, had to change to a community controller profile and that was it, it works perfectly otherwise and is just as brilliant as ever, you won’t find a better TD game imo.

Was looking at getting the first Defense Grid but some people are saying there are issues with it, or that it won’t run at all in some cases. It’s only a couple of quid so I might try it anyway and see what I can do with my very limited knowledge.

Steam Deck is awesome isn’t it, to me it feels to gaming what the first iPod was to music back when it first came out.

My first foray into doing something other than just installing and playing games didn’t go too well

Tried getting the Xbox Cloud Gaming shortcut to work but I messed up somewhere. If I’ve mistyped something in the Konsole can I just delete everything and try again?

In the konsole bit i found it helped to just learn how to copy the commands from the browser and paste them in, all using deck buttons, no mouse needed (but easier with i guess)

Yeah I don’t know why I didn’t just do that, I even had the Deck docked with a keyboard and mouse but it didn’t occur to me to just copy/paste whilst I painstakingly typed everything in

I’m just concerned that whatever I’ve done wrong will remain there even if I do a new konsole command

You'll be fine, just follow instructions again. I messed up first time too

Ooh got cloud gaming working, just need to add the artwork now. Was more fiddly than I thought but once I got signed in on the Edge browser it all worked nicely.

I might look at emulation next, how difficult is that?

Really easy with EmuDeck, but it’s a minefield of getting ROMs and artwork and all kinds of other shite. Absolute rabbit hole.

Do the initial setup, by all means, but if you’re not careful you can spend more time setting it up than playing games.

I fail to see the issue here.

How does it work with needing Origin?

Emudeck is absolutely essential imo.  Having classics from bygone eras to hand is awesome

Emudeck does look to be superb and user friendly. I've got standalone Dolphin and PCSX2 on mine as those are the formats my Retroid can't handle but might just throw everything on there at some point. Currently setting up separate SD cards for Sony and Nintendo games :)

I basically now need Wind Waker and Prime on mine.  Can’t put it off any longer.

Less than a week owning one, Steam Deck is quite good isn’t it ;)

Having my whole Game Pass library on there is kind of blowing my mind too, and it runs really well - for stuff like Pentiment it’s a no brainer.

It's terrible for my spare time and my main computer and consoles. They've all been relegated to YouTube streaming services while the Deck's in my hands.

Been seeing a lot of chatter about the deck and future games because of the DF article and Aya bringing out yet another line of handhelds.

I wish I could care for it, but after seven hours of ETS2, I don't think I will. I got enough games to last me a lifetime already.

I thought initially I was having new console buzz with this, which even saying that isn't something I've experienced for quite a while with new machines. But as the months have gone on I just use it more and more, and it's broadening the types of games I'm willing to play to. I'm not only playing things from the past but finding new games too I'd never touch on other machines (like the older Dungeon of the Endless only yesterday).

Plus look at this, makes me feel good just looking at them all in one place

How easy is it to get switch games running on it? I’d like to play Zelda and Fire Emblem without having to faff about with two handhelds.

Depends on the game, switch emulation isn't very advanced yet.

I’ll need to try and track down a new switch lite then I think. My missus has commandeered my switch for Animal Crossing and Dreamlight Valley 😂

Make sure you get the Wii U version of Wind Waker! Plays like a dream, and as the screen res is the same as the Wii U gamepad thing it looks glorious.

The oled switch potentially the one to go for tbh, the screen is far better than the deck's.

I only have a lite and it feels like a toy compared to the deck, haha.
