So setting up everything on the Deck, its nice but not sure because mine is used but it has this funny plastic smell. It reminds me of something I can't place my finger on. Haven't had chance to play anything since games are so big, and my net isn't super fast. Think I try emulation and get Snatcher working on it. At the moment using as a mini computer for basic computer work connected to a monitor.

I’ve always heard good things about Snatcher but never played it.  What’s the best version to play as I think it’s on several formats.  Did you get it setup on your deck yet?

Not at the moment, due to my poor internet speeds I been downloading games from my library. However, next thing on my agenda is Snatcher and finding out the best method to play it. Best bet is emudeck and plonking the rom to play it unless I'm mistaken?.

Mega CD is what you want to go for, yeah; it's a decent translation, fully voiced, looks great, and actually has an ending.

That said, the original MSX Snatcher is interesting to look at as a curio, and has fan translations readily available; while bizarro-sort-of-remake SD Snatcher (also MSX) is fascinating both for what it is (a complete mechanical and aesthetic reimagining of the original, with a new ending added which would end up inspiring the Mega CD ending), and for being the first recorded game to have a full fan translation released, way back in 1993.* So, you know, there's real merit to exploring the fan translated MSX games too — just, y'know, after playing the Mega CD version.

*though more recent translations are understandably better

Outrun 2 broken for anyone else? I just get a white screen now when trying to boot.

Yes I get the same.  An update must of broken something

Annoying, AM2R (metroid hack) doesn't work either

Does Valve allow rollback to a previous Steam OS version?

If you force it to use proton 6. Something or other, that got it working for me.

There is a PlayStation version but not sure if that was a Japan only release then again may have a fan translation patch

Saturn as well; I believe you can get the PS1 version patched, and they have the Japanese voice acting for those who prefer it, but they've had their aesthetic tweaked to something a lot more muted (plus some inserted mid-90s CG which looks awful), the gore is toned down, they have different soundtracks, and are generally considered weaker than the Mega CD version.

Ive sorted AM2R.  The path to the shortcut needed to be redone after an update

For anyone who wants the fan in Windows to shut up a bit, I've found this to work well:

https://github.com/ayufan/steam-deck-tools

The system does seem to stay cool enough when running games. Maybe turn it off if you're just running the CPU hard though, as apparently it doesn't sense the temperatures of that. Although the CPU and GPU are on the same die of course, so the temperature difference and therefore risk should be somewhat controlled.

Anyone playing P5R in Steam Deck? For some reason I no longer get a picture output just a black screen, despite hearing the game run in the background. Anyone else noticed this?

I'll try it out for you in a bit, buddy.

Edit: no issues for me. I'm in the beta channel at the mo though.

If the game's running in the background, maybe press the Steam button to see if there's a second window for some reason?

I'd try that, and then maybe switch Proton version to see if that does something. I'd check if the saves get uploaded to Steam Cloud first, though.

Thanks both. I had to uninstall / reinstall and then change to GE 7-35

Pro-tip, instead redownloading the entire game you can also "verify the integrity of the game files" in the same menu where you find proton compatibility stuff. That's quicker that redownloading anything that's more than a few gb's

I tried that initially. Always my first option. Unfortunately it got stuck twice.

Having just bought a Steam Deck, the autumn sale is the first big Steam sale that’s been relevant for me in many years.

I’m sure it’s old hat to most people but the prices are eye poppingly low. It looks like I can assemble a perfect Xbox 360/PS4 gen mobile library that will last me for years for fifty quid.

Interested in this too, so please do share any finds! I’ve been thinking we need a ‘360/PS3 on Steam’ thread to share and keep track of them tbh, now might be that time.

Made quite a few purchases given all the price drops and thought I would give Dirt Rally 2.0 a go, even though it’s been downgraded to incompatible. Nervously waited for the download to complete and I’m happy to say it works perfectly so far and it’s bloody impressive visually. This machine keeps surprising me.

Also got Fire Pro Wrestling World or whatever it’s called. I’m sure it will be great once I get in to it properly but for me it’s lost the visual charm of earlier releases (D on Dreamcast being my favourite).

I think I've already written elsewhere on rllmuk, but I've picked up the games I want already. Quite looking forward to finally playing RDR2 - although I read somewhere that it's not quite as smooth when running off the SD card. Is there any truth to that? I might have to make some more space on the SSD.
