Really feels like a second wind. I've gone with the 64gig version as I'm comfortable opening it up if need be but I reckon should be ok anyway. For the SD card this came up as a recommend more than once but any thoughts would be welcome. Apologies as I'm sure this has been asked loads but I'm now looking for a cheap Bluetooth keyboard/mouse as it will spend most of its time docked and I will spend most of my time on the sofa. It seems every site recommends something different and often pricey - would something like this be reasonable? I'd (hopefully) be using the PS4's dualshock most of the time anyway so doesn't feel like I need anything too wild. I have the Logitech K380 and i use it with a cheapo bluetooth mouse, works perfectly. I bought the jsaux dock from @simms, and while it's great i dont think i'll use it in docked mode, i wont use the deck for emulation etc so cant see me tinkering too much. Expect to see the dock, mouse and keyboard in the trading folder shortly!

The right thumbstick is perfect, but the left feels crunchy/squeaky/rough, and the y button is sticky, and takes a second too long to pop back. You can play on it fine, but it's frustrating to use every time I use it, and in the case of the y, lead me to remapping stuff to the grip buttons. And for that much money it seems ridiculous to stick it out. If it was a playstation controller, I would get a new one instantly, so seems stupid to put up with it, and it will only get worse. Fingers crossed it's under warranty. If not I'll buy a new stick and try and do the swap myself. Put the request ticket in yesterday, got a reply asking to send it off today. They are paying for shipping, and I should get a label to post it in the next 24hrs. Impressed so far - hope I'm not without it too long.
yakumo
Great news, think I be getting myself an used Steam Deck by the end of the week failing I don't get scammed. Cannot wait, hope it lives up to my expectations.
bigjb
Considering trying out a Steam Deck and one of the uses would be to use docked and watch football through a web browser. Does any one use this method and if so how good is the Deck at outputting though the Dock.
deerokus
I'd say there are more optimal ways to do that.

Prof Frink
Finally joined the Steam Deck club, my 512GB model turned up today and I was wondering what SD cards people recommend to use on it, was thinking of at least a 256GB one, is there anything in particular I need to be aware of or just go for the best sandisk model?.
yakumo
Quick question so a windeck is basically a windows only installation. Interested to know why people would want to do that since surely performance would take a hit?.

You don’t need to get the Ultra - you’re paying for write speeds you don’t need - Extreme Pro is enough.
deerokus
I recommend the Samsung Evo Select cards, which I think are exclusive to Amazon and do the job perfectly. But really any known brand at a decent price. The really high speed cards are for professional photographers and people like that. No need for it in a gaming system. bradigor
Loaded up art of rally last week, as I enjoyed it on desktop even it came out, but found the handheld experience in Switch to be lacking. That's not the case in Steam Deck at all, it pretty much perfect.
yakumo
So setting up everything on the Deck, its nice but not sure because mine is used but it has this funny plastic smell. It reminds me of something I can't place my finger on. Haven't had chance to play anything since games are so big, and my net isn't super fast. Think I try emulation and get Snatcher working on it. At the moment using as a mini computer for basic computer work connected to a monitor.
Gotters
are you referring to the lovely smell that comes out the fan vent at the top, that stuff is like new car smell, so nice. I'm a bit sad mine seems to have worn off but it's a bit extravagant to buy another deck just so it smells like that again.

Also for people who use it in desktop mode, is the trackpad twitchy?, not sure if its because I have to get used to it but it feels like a bad Windows trackpad without precision drivers. Using it with a mouse, but hopefully when playing games it feel better as its one of those things people are positive about.

Gotters
Steamdeck client update out today - ran the update but seems to have altered something in my desktop settings and now the left mouse button click on the left trackpad doesn't work anymore looks like left button press been remapped to left trigger for some reason - nothing I ever touched. Gotters
Just now, alex3d said: same here... glad I found an old reddit threat about losing desktop mouse settings, it mentioned left trigger in there. there are desktop settings if you open steam in desktop mode then open big picture mode, but I don't like fiddling with that stuff and never even been in there before. Siri
If there's one thing I learnt from using a Steam Deck, it's the following: If there's an update, wait a few days in case Reddit starts kicking off about it. It's not like other devices where you need to update in order to play games, get online games happening or whatever the fuck you want to do with it.
Gotters
few things showing up here, looks like they keyboard is just X in desktop, left trigger for left click
Gotters
desktop mode changes actually quite elegant to use, right trackpad operates the same as mouse and main click, left pad is now a scroll wheel and left trigger is left click. just repeating myself as sent me into a panic when I first went in, consider it a PSA
