I bought them from EE. I've had a contract with them for several years, latest handset is the S22 Ultra, bought them for that handset really but found them to be awesome for the Deck. Bonus. Anyway, they were £399 when I bought them a couple of months back but are now £340. Think Nreal have some sort of deal with EE.

They are pretty great, you can use them with no front cover on them, so they look like normal..ish glasses and you get a massive screen with visibility of your surroundings, with good colour and contrast. Put the provided cover over the front and then they're basically a floating Oled with perfect blacks etc. They work with loads of devices, Switch etc but you may need a dongle for some, I already had something that was able to power and receive video at the same time for the Switch though. For modern phones and stuff like my iPad Pro 2020, S22U and the Steam Deck they just work when plugged in, this is because those devices provide both power and video over USB C (4.0?).

They really are great for the Deck. They provide a better screen that's around a 100+ inches floating a few feet away, with Oled quality blacks.

They’re powered by the deck right? Is it a bit drain on the battery? Are you using some sort of passthrough dongle to allow charging at the same time?

I didn't realise they were on offer at the moment. Neat. They're a bit rich for my blood going into Christmas, but it's something to consider next year.

Played a bit of Gravel due to the post about it being on offer - I'm still trying to figure out settings for 60fps, I'm hoping it's not another lost cause like other Unreal Engine games. I am waiting for those severe drops in framerate, though - I'm wondering if it will occur after forcing Proton, as I'm guessing it's another Borderlands/Tomb Raider situation where the native Linux port is loaded by default and fucking things up for other people.

Edit: followed this for the time being - so high everything, ramped the AA to Temporal High and 16x sampling, 60fps and then set Shadow quality to low. the only other thing I've done is set it to 50hz to smooth out any frame drops. It's running pretty nice, although I'm sure something will happen that will fuck it up. As mentioned, UE is usually a problem on the Deck for whatever reason.

Steam sales and discounts are like bloody catnip! First time really using the store and I’m genuinely considering deleting the store app on my phone as it’s too easy to see yet another great game at 50 - 70% discount.

Up to 48 titles already. Just seen Tails of Iron and Rogue League 2 are on sale…

Don't buy any game you're not going to play soon. Steam sales are an inevitability of life, and everything will be reduced again.

Yep, and I'd highly recommend using https://gg.deals/

Search for a game, find the cheapest key. Shows price history too, which is super useful.

Even better, it links to your Steam wishlist and will notify you when there's a price drop, and shows if the price is an historic low.

They don't have a battery, they're completely powered by the device. As for draining the Deck etc, they're probably using less power than the Deck's screen so may in fact increase battery life, suppose some tests need to be done for that statement but they certainly don't seem to run the Deck down any quicker than its screen. They also have ok speakers but I use them with my Sony XM3. You only need a dongle for some devices, the Switch for one. Modern phones and the Steam Deck etc have power and data out over USB C so simply plug and play.

I’ve got the official Steam deck dock and I’m quite disappointed by it, not in terms of its primary functionality (although the jury is still out on that) but its physical design.  I’ve been using a ivoler dock happily but it doesn’t have the network port.  I initially bought a jsaux dock with a network port and then Valve surprise released their dock.  I sold the unopened jsaux dock to a fellow forumite and bought the valve dock.

So my deck has a cheap Benazcap silicone case from Amazon.  It happily sits in the Ivolver dock well supported, however in the Valve dock the space the deck sits is narrow so it doesn’t sit well and a light knock means the deck falls.  Also the usbc cable that connects to the dock on the ivolver dock sits nicely with the silicone case but the valve cable sits so flush I cannot plug it in without peeling back the top part of by silicone case.  It seems Valve design does not take into account any cases on you may have on your deck.  I’ll have to see what kind if other solution I can use, either try and find a slimmer case or flog the valve dock.

I don’t think any of the cases will work particularly well, Valve were quite set on making a very snug fit with the cable and the stand. The popular killswitch case won’t fit either, though apparently the magnets for the kick stand are so strong they slow the fan down by around 1500-2500 rpm!

yes I heard about the kill switch case.  I had it on pre-order and was about to pull the trigger when it was up for sale but I held off for some reason and a few days later the news broke that the magnets affect the fan.  I’m gutted for Dbrand considering all the r&D that went into the case.  I’ve been following all their ‘funny’ newsletters over the months which is not to everyone’s taste.  I believe they’re in the process of redesigning the case?  My cheap silicone case is not snug and especially so I’ve stretched it to fit the valve dock usb cable into my deck.  I’ve made a decision to return the valve dock and get the ivolver dock with the network port.

Get the Jsaux case. I have it and it's brilliant.

Because it’s £3 and addictive as hell!

Seriously, try Nomad Survivors. Exact same gameplay loop but with better graphics and the ability to change the game parameters if you want.

Want to play the normal mode but 3x faster? Done. Want a big challenge? Increase enemy speed, or health. Or reduce your own!

It's just Vampire Survivors, BUT BETTER!

Just ordered one along with the dock :)

Been feeling pretty disillusioned with gaming of late; the PS4 has been unplugged for nearly a month, but looking through the store recently realised there's so much good stuff I've missed out on over the years and this feels like the perfect way to address that, and that's before considering the retro element! Really feels like a second wind.

I've gone with the 64gig version as I'm comfortable opening it up if need be but I reckon should be ok anyway.  For the SD card this came up as a recommend more than once but any thoughts would be welcome.

Apologies as I'm sure this has been asked loads but I'm now looking for a cheap Bluetooth keyboard/mouse as it will spend most of its time docked and I will spend most of my time on the sofa.  It seems every site recommends something different and often pricey - would something like this be reasonable?  I'd (hopefully) be using the PS4's dualshock most of the time anyway so doesn't feel like I need anything too wild.

So I've put a ticket in to fix mine. The right thumbstick is perfect, but the left feels crunchy/squeaky/rough, and the y button is sticky, and takes a second too long to pop back. You can play on it fine, but it's frustrating to use every time I use it, and in the case of the y, lead me to remapping stuff to the grip buttons. And for that much money it seems ridiculous to stick it out.

If it was a playstation controller, I would get a new one instantly, so seems stupid to put up with it, and it will only get worse.

Fingers crossed it's under warranty. If not I'll buy a new stick and try and do the swap myself.
