Ah ok, thanks. Not sure I can be bothered with the hassle. I don’t want to risk bricking it or setting it all

up again.

It's probably been said in the two pages I haven't read, but it's really super easy mate. There's about 11 screws you take out. Swap the drive with the new one, put it back together, then pop a USB stick with the image formatted on it to reinstall the OS.

It took me 10 mins for the hardware swap out and 25 mins all in, software format included.

I’ve had my deck for about 3 weeks now. Never really used Steam so had no initial library.

I’ve stuck with the Steam store and buying keys from CDKeys.com. Found some amazing bargains and already sitting with 38 all killer, no filler games.

The deck is amazing; never played a handheld so much and my favourite gadget buy in a long time.

Fanatical bundles and Humble Choice are two other good services if you want to pad your library.

Is there a way to have a default browser on steam deck or save a shortcut, for example, to chrome on the desktop or is that something exclusive to Windows?

Nothing will download on firefox so I tend to go to chrome but i need to open it up via steam on desktop mode and it really, really, annoys the living plop oot me.

Of course, I don't know the ins and outs of Linux, maybe its all straight forward but googling is getting me nowhere on ma mobily.

I haven’t used chrome, but I just installed ms edge in the discover store. It’s in the start menu and I have it pinned to the task bar. It’s also my default browser.

TBH, I'm not sure how you're not using Chrome now - when Valve updated SteamOS itself, they changed the default browser from Firefox to Chrome. It's already on mine, with a shortcut as well. I had to redownload Firefox to even use it again.

Anyway, it's simple - once you've downloaded whatever browser on desktop mode via Discover (the app store), open up Steam on Desktop Mode as well, click the plus sign on the bottom left corner and add a non-steam game.

You'll get a list of programs - select Chrome from there, click OK. it'll now be in your Steam library - and when you go back into SteamOS, there will be an entry for Chrome in the non-steam games subsection.

Again though, there might be two entries already!

Joining in with the 'still loving my deck' gang. Got and completed Batman Origins for the first time since it was out on the 360. Started Arkham Asylum, which looks lovely. Playing some GameCube games I never tried on release and playing the new smoke patch football life (PES 2021) mod.

I still bloody love my deck.

Just in case this helps anyone else give in to the temptation, I ordered a Deck on Thursday evening, and it arrived this morning. That's real impulse purchase territory now.

I'm typing this on the Deck btw. Single cable plugged into a 4K monitor and it mostly just feels like I'm using a normal computer.

Oh no! I've realised that once I've finished work, I need to wait in my car for an hour on the other end of town for a doctor's appointment - there's roadworks everywhere, so I can't make two trips to get home.

I'm going to be sat there doing absolutely noth-*presses button on deck and starts up New Vegas*

Is there a way to have separate rumble profiles on steam deck for an external controller without changing it each time? I have it turned up quite high - because the inbuilt motors are not particularly good - but when I connected my Xbox controller it was like holding the San Andreas fault with thumb sticks.

I haven't played my Deck in a week or so as I've been playing Game Pass games on my Xbox instead.

What's the Xbox Cloud Streaming service on the Deck like at the moment - do you still get kicked out each time you suspend the console? Do we know anything about there being an official Xbox Cloud Streaming app?

It sounds silly, and although I've done the workaround to get it to load on Edge, having to connect to the cloud each time is enough to put me off from using the Deck as a Game Pass streamer.

Edit: just posted this without reading @Gotters's post immediately above mine

I’ve got my deck plugged into my work monitor (it’s a 46” Samsung QLED gaming one, my boss wanted me to have widescreen for work so gave me his spare. I wouldn’t have it otherwise!)

I can turn off automatic resolution to get full screen on Steam OS/Home but all the games I’ve tried run in a 16:9(?) format. Is there a way to get full screen on the games or is steam deck not powerful enough/blocked from doing that?

IIRC, there's a per-game setting to enable the maximum resolution to be anything higher than 1280 x 800. But even if you do that, there really isn't a lot of games out there that properly support ultrawide without mods, from my time using one with the big computer at home.

Could always check if there's software on the monitor itself to do PiP, I guess.

You're always going to get that disconnect, because the only solution is Microsoft maintaining everyone's connection and keep the instance running when they stop using it. The equivalent of having a taxi idle outside your house when it brings you home, because you think you might want to go somewhere tomorrow.

They might be able to do work to speed up some back end processes, but the dream of being able to wake the machine up and instantly be right back playing a game that is actually running on a server miles away is an extremely distant one.
