Don’t you just write the image to an SD card and boot it? I thought that was the point of it - it’s all set up for you.

There’s also certain bioses you need, to use the scrapers you need to sign up to some weird website, the file explorer in batocera seems to not see certain files. It’s definitely a beta piece of software at the moment.

Eh?

What devices is that for?  So far, SNES, GBA and PSP have just been a case of copying over the roms.

For me anyways, it has just been, burn to SD and boot (and copy ROMS)

Has anyone been able to force a controller layout to be applied?

Context is that I tried Shadowrun DragonFall that I got from Epic. It boots fine but will only respond to touchscreen. There is a controller layout available that works great for the Steam version but as mine is launched via Heroic I can only see the usual half dozen or so default configs, none of which work and the Community configs show nothing.

I suppose I can plug in my mouse but kinda defeats the purpose

I think you'll just need to create your own. If you want at some point tomorrow I can screen shot one of the community layouts for you to manually copy

Cheers Brad,

I believe it's called "ShadowRuM Awesome Perfected". Absolutely no rush either. Was just messing around checking out a few games I have that aren't Steam

If you know the ID of the game on steam, you can temporarily change the name of the game on SteamOS to that number, and it will pull up that game's community controller configs. Then you can change it back after you've saved it.

In other news, I dropped my deck from about half a metre while it was sealed in its case - everything works still, but the right side haptics sound funny now :( I'm guessing one of the two springs in the touchpad assembly got bowed or dislodged. Something I'll have to investigate when 1TB SSDs become cheaper, along with hall effect sticks. Only problem is that iFixit still doesn't sell the touchpad assemblies in their entirety, which is very annoying.

That one isn't on there for some reason. This is the one I used the the record.

As someone not very technically minded, I installed Emudeck to see if I could get a few Gamecube games working. For anyone similarly technically illiterate - it wasn't too hard. With a few YouTube tutorials it took me about 3hrs to install it, download some games and get them working. It took me that long because I was doing it all directly on on the deck - no keyboard or mouse made it a bit tricky as the steam deck virtual keyboard and trackpads are not particularly precise in desktop mode.

Anyway, it's fantastic. Gamecube games run well with the odd cutscene skip here and there.

I've been playing Metroid Prime. That game was so ahead of it's time - the immersive HUD and story told through scanning objects. It's still dripping with atmosphere 20 years on.

I love my deck

Annoyingly my deck has stopped syncing my VS save. I unlocked some stuff during a few deck games. Steam cloud says everything is fine on both ends. My PC is still on the old save. Every time I launch VS on the deck it says it couldn't sync despite the UI saying it has. Has anyone else experienced this?

Anyone know how to get Need for Speed Most Wanted running on the deck? I bought it in the sale yesterday and it gets stuck in a grey box in the middle of the screen. I think it’s supposed to be a login screen or something but it’s totally blank.

is it linked to EA messing about with their DRM

I've had similar syncing issues with Slay The Spire, moving from Deck to Desktop and back. I turned off cloud saves and turned them back on again and it seemed to right itself. Although in STS's case it was still loading, just loading the old save.

Sleep mode and Game Pass via Edge still resulting in connection problems. Any solution to this issue yet? Thanks.

If you're saying what I think you're saying, I suspect you're expecting the impossible. You're playing a cloud game through an internet browser, it's not running on your deck locally. It's running on an Azure server somewhere. How would you expect that Microsoft server to detect you turned off your Deck and suspend your session until you turn that Deck back on? All the server can see is that you've lost your connection to it.

Or am I misunderstanding something? English is not my first language etc.

Due to some tragic circumstances I’ve been away from gaming as a whole since mid August.
I am slowly coming to terms with these events and I am looking to get back into my Steam Deck. Have I missed much when it comes to emulation? Much improvements? I had Outrun C2C running along with a few emulators

Mine neither :) No, you're right. Just a bit unpleasant when playing and pausing an Xbox Cloud game. Usually I need to quit and restart the application for it to connect and work again.
