For emulation I've got emudeck running and it's been pretty flawless. The downside being you need to limit the roms you shove on as they end up in the non-steam library section.

CoinOps Legends Deck v1.0 is decent for MAME / some console titles without cluttering up the UI, and can be found where the punks who hang out in arcades reside.

Also can we have a poll as to who sniffs their steamdeck vent? Asking for a friend! 😆

Just installed CoinOps and it runs really well, perfect for a prebuilt collection of older games bolstered by some select stuff via emu deck (basically every version of outrun 2 I can get running)

Apologies for the basic question but is the deck easy just to use out of the box? It’s great to see all the posts about emulators and tweaks but tbh I really can’t be bothered with the faff now.

I was hoping I could use the deck to get the PC indie titles (via the Steam store) and Xbox titles (via cloud streaming) that I can’t get on my PS5.

Is that realistic? Is there anyone using it in vanilla mode like this and happy? Just pulled the trigger on an order and starting to doubt myself. The thread about buying and selling gaming gear is going around in my head! 😁

Yeah I use it like this and it is great.

There's a version of that keyboard with a mouse pad on that I have. Useful if you don't want to get a wireless mouse, too:

Logitech K400 Plus Wireless Touch TV Keyboard With Easy Media Control and Built-in Touchpad, HTPC Keyboard for PC-connected TV, Windows, Android, Chrome OS, Laptop, QWERTY UK English Layout - Black https://amzn.eu/d/inmlNA5

It's often on sale.

Yeah I did consider it but I've never been a fan of the touchpad and probably wouldn't use the media features

I have managed to install smokepatch for pes 2021 so the game has the correct strips, names and badges. Took a bit longer than I thought it might, but mostly because I'm not used to Linux and did it without the use of a mouse or keyboard.  The deck is a great wee (big) machine.

Cheers Valve, top notch work forcing a cancellation/refund on me

That's good isn't it? You can just buy a new one without queuing now, and there's still a chance the original one might show up at some point.

I'm such a tit sometimes - been pulling what's left of my hair out trying to get past the opening of Your Turn to Die. Tried about four versions of Proton, stuck at the same bit.

As it turns out, it's just down to the fact that the game doesn't actually use a controller, but for some reason it responds to the textbox prompts. I had to use the mouse as intended for the rest of the game to advance  that's what I get for pratting around with non-steam games without checking the readme, I suppose.

Why would they do that if they've given him a refund?

Not sure what else they could do in this situation.

I mean block from ordering it again rather than nuke his account. Sometimes places can be a bit funny like that, I once didn’t receive something and was told I could have a refund but also that I couldn’t order again as they didn’t want the risk of losing a parcel again!

I've not tried, but I have seen people have their accounts blocked from buying Decks if they're deemed 'insecure' for delivery or whatever.

And what they could do is send the bloody thing with FedEx or DPD. Again, which I've seen they've done for people. Depends who you get on support, it's clear there's no defined response to the horrors of Evri.

Anyway, bought one second hand (apparently) in mint condition so fuck it.

I sold my steam deck and it was nicked in the post. No biggie as RM have paid out but does anyone know if Valve can use the Serial to ban the console or similar? It would be nice to ruin someone’s day. I think it was nicked by the people at the post office as it was never even picked up and Royal Mail seem to think the same thing as they’ve asked for an official response from that post office.

Yeah, the deck's default WASD mapping adds haptics to the analog movement for some reason. I think it can also add feedback if you map a button to the outer edge of movement. All tweakable, but it's the sort of thing that'll throw you off on a custom Steam Input mapping.

Both are fine; SD cards work very well for storage. Top one has some anti-glare coating on the screen though.

Gone for the 64GB in the end, been doing some research and it looks like the difference is negligible. Will keep the difference and put it towards a SteamDeck 2 in a couple of years 🤣

Looking at the description of the dock it mentions that the cable to the Steamdeck itself is a captive cable. Presumably that means it's not removable, right? That's killed my interest as I'd have like something that'd work well with other devices. I know the dock will technically work with other devices but it'll be a bit more awkward with laptops and other tablets.

I've just bought a pair of Nreal Air glasses, mainly for my S22 Ultra (Dex Mode) but they work with a Steam Deck. I read quite a bit about them before I purchased them and they have some issues here and there but on the whole they're supposed to be pretty cool. Early adopter territory but I've always been a sucker for new tech so sod it.

Sponsored so perhaps not the most impartial but jives with what I've read. I also don't have any issue with the Deck screen, it's not why I bought them, I bought them for my Ultra which already has an incredible 120Hz Oled, it's about size for me, whilst out and about or lying on my back in bed.

I wonder if those will help me with my vision issues. How much do they cost?

£399.

I'd probably want to try them before buying, but that's because I wear prescription lenses (and I use them for the Quest too, so I'd imagine it's the same for these)
