Steam Deck (handheld from Valve) - shipping is 4-8 days from NL to UK

My young cousin contacted me last night asking if he can have his delivered here. He moved to Australia a few years back and apparently Valve can't add extra postage options, so he has to go through the rigamarole of having it fly a few thousand miles here and there, which seems crazy.

I dunno, seems reasonable doesn't it.

For one these aren't available in Australia at all. Why have a regional launch if you can send them anywhere? How do you offer support/RMA if you made that easy?

The edge case has been the fact that when you actually purchase you have to be in the same region as where you original pre-ordered from. Due to the way queuing system was set up means each user is registering for a place in a specific regional queue (UK, EU, US and CA I think). Fulfilment is from each of those queues rather than from a global centre. But if you move, or are on holiday, then you have to be in that region to order it (and deliver to an address in that region). So some people have had to VPN to make their purchase whilst away (or use Steam support to extend their purchase window).

Just sending it to Aus surely means taxes to? Do Valve want to bother to get involved in that for anywhere in the world?

Is there a commercial package forwarding service he could use instead? I'd imagine it'd work out cheaper for him to buy a Hong Kong or somewhere else in Asia model and have it forwarded to Australia.

I put my deposit down on 31 July and got my order email today. So one month and three weeks. But the pace has picked up recently so it might not take you as long.

Ordered mine last Friday (16th Sept) and GetMyDeck has also jumped me up to 91% and only 34 days before it's my turn (to order presumably?) - previously was expecting the email the week before Xmas.

Hoping @deerokusis right - which would mean I'm basically a week away from being emailed to pay for one (I think!)..

Puts my 'get all accessories on Black Friday' and 'have a great christmas break fiddling with one' to shit, but hey. :)

Is there an idiots guide to getting Scud Race working? I have seen a few videos on YouTube but no one ever explains how they installed the bloody thing in the first place :( Cheers

Yup in this thread. Haven't got much time, sorry - but if you search my posts (of which there are few) - you'll find what you need - model 3 emu/Supermodel Assistant.

"You have 44 days, 00 hours, 16 minutes and 06 seconds worth of pre-orders to go until it is your turn (not real time)

You're 89.8 % of the way there!"

Where I'm at - Reserved a couple of days ago.

About a week and a half maximum away from getting your email to pay. I'd estimate you get the email next Thursday evening.

Anyone using a matte screen protector on their deck? If so, any recommendations? There’s loads on Amazon…

I've just ordered these. Seem to be the highest rated:

I got the MagGlass matte screen protector. Dead east to fit and the finish was lovely... but it just made the screen ever so slightly blurred, too much that I couldn't ignore it. Took it off and got a Benzacap glossy one, and it's absolutely fine.
