Poor Chelsea, a fairytale that won't continue.

You have to feel for them it's been a really hard time for a club with such meagre resources.

It's not the fans or staff's fault is it? Every League has a team or teams who have big pockets debts.

Wrexham aren't in the league and their resources eclipse quite a lot of League 1 teams. Stockport County ditto. Fleetwood Town. Ipswich Town. Fulham. Real Madrid, PSG. Liverpool, Man City. The list is massive.

An interesting tidbit of information from the Guardian's Knowledge column this week.

On Saturday, KPV of the Finnish second tier travelled to SJK-j Apollo, who play in the seventh. In totally unsurprising news, they won 10-2, but that's not the interesting bit. That's the fact that the KPV manager, Christian Sund, also plays for SJK-j Apollo, and indeed scored for them in the first round of the cup. Unsurprisingly, he remained in the dugout for his actual employers for this match.

Is the the fans fault when they are chanting their former/current/Russian bad guy's name, and other such chants they give out.

Just put the City game on, assumed Atletico were playing in the dark blue from all the diving and playacting coming from the City players.

Funny when it's the City players doing it it's praised by the commentary but a disgrace when it's Atletico.

Nah, when it happens to Althelico, it is funny.

It will never not be funny watching Althetico and Simeone implode.

As far as footballing spectacles go, it's up there with the best of them.

In the second half of the second leg between Man Utd and Atletico the ball was only in play for something like 11 minutes, mostly due to the time wasting and faking injuries by Atletico.

Seeing how furious they get when their opposition does what they usually do is beautiful!

There’s an engaging read on The Athletic about last night’s shenanigans. Shows Vrsaljko throwing a water bottle at Walker in the tunnel then trying to headbutt him from 20 feet away. BT capturing Grealish calling Savic a cunt and pixelating his mouth. After the Foden melee, Fernandinho shoving Foden back down on the ground to prolong the chaos.

There’s a tweet with video, I think, I only saw it this morning

Seeing Atletico throw a tantrum was more delicious than what i had to eat while watching the match...almost made up for how dull it was and the regret at not watching the Liverpool Benfica goal fest instead. To lose a two leg tie in the second leg 0-0 because you can't even score a single goal at home...i hope it bothers them.

I don’t think it’s particularly great that it takes shit housery to beat ATM, regardless of how they act and how glad we all are that they are out. I’d rather they’d have been beaten by superb football without the cuntiness and by a team that weren’t bank rolled by cunts.

It just feels like having to defeat the Tory government by being grander charlatans. How is that progress, ffs?

I thought Football Weekly's take on the Athletico - Man City match was spot on.

All this outcry and "it's awful!" - and is it really?

A lot of nonsense about role models and how it will affect kids - when Grealish is calling someone a cunt for a bit of hair pulling, considering his high/drunk driving that could have actually killed someone?

Suddenly the Man City ownership and money is forgotten and the bad guys are some men grumbling around on a football pitch who "aren't sporting".

Better unsporting than sports washing I say.

A bit of perspective is needed, especially considering the state of the rest of the world.

The Barcelona Frankfurt game had a wild ending and had a harsh second yellow to send off the Frankfurt defender,. I hope West Ham aren’t too upset they aren’t going to the Nou Camp in the next round.

At this point West Ham should be thinking about winning it.  Frankfurt are probably a more beatable opponent than Barcelona despite tonight’s result in Spain. I love how wide open the competition is now, I’ve not checked but I’d imagine Leipzig are slight favourites but all four sides remaining should fancy their chances.

And the winner gets into the group stages of the CL for next season too right?

I hate to ask the obvious, but with the (dubious) exception of Villareal owner Fernando Roig, which of the last 8 teams would that be?
